CineTV Contest #64 - Favorite action movie : Mad Max (Fury Road).
Mad Max directed by George Miller in 1979 is a lesson in cinema, especially in terms of editing and planning, with a disturbing sequence as Max going to get his car in the parking lot, disappears like a ghost, and appears without cutting shot, driving his car already Mad (crazy) by the death of their loved ones.
Mad Max, the road warrior or Mad Max 2 also by George Miller in 1981 is the high point of the saga, an adventure story in which the figure of Max, with a brilliant Mel Gibson, reaches the dimension of legend, marking what will be the character in future installments.
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome by George Miller & George Ogilvie, 1985 presents winks to the Star Wars and Indiana sagas, however it is the weakest of this trilogy despite the participation of the singer Tina Turner.
There is a fourth movie filmed in 2015 called Mad Max: Fury Road. This time Mad Max is played by Tom Hardy given the advanced age of the previous protagonist (Mel Gibson), however by that time its director George Miller was already 70 years old. This fourth film is one of the best action movies so far this century.

In the prologue of the film Max Rockatansky in the desert gives us a monologue that serves as a summary of his story. Then, we witness an incredible frantic chase.

Mad Max believes that the best way to survive is to go out into the world alone, but he is forced to collaborate with a group of women fleeing across the desert in a War Rig driven by an elite Empress: Furiosa. They escape from a Citadel tyrannized by Immortan Joe, who has been robbed of something irreplaceable to him: his women. This Warlord mobilizes all his gangs and relentlessly pursues the rebels.

Musical instruments have served as a complement to the weapons of war, here too the Doof Warrior stands out, a blind and maniacal being, climbing atop a huge and fast war machine, which is equipped with a wall of amplifiers and a small battalion of drummers. On this stage, Doof belts out distorted metal howls through his double-necked guitar that spews flames of fire.

In Mad Max: Fury Road, (aside from everyone's right to own water), you are no longer fighting for goods or gasoline, you are fighting for humans. Some are to subdue them or simply use them as pieces of meat. You fight for freedom and to regain dignity.
Tom Hardy, who has few lines of dialogue, during the first third of the film does not have a full face, but this fact does not imply that he gives us a decent performance.
Nevertheless, the beautiful Charlize Theron delivers a performance that borders on the sublime, and it is clear that the film is Imperator Furiosa. She is a tough desert warrior, but she shows moments full of feelings of defeat or sadness, but she does not abandon the passion to get what she wants.

The background of the film is feminist, as the plot revolves around the Chosen Ones who do not want to be used simply to procreate, to be mere objects, or to be outraged. Some will lose their fear and evolve, and others were already fighters and can prove it.

We are in the presence of a constant chase in vehicles, in which the Mad Max universe is expanded, serving the film as both a sequel and a reboot of the saga.
The epic finale shows the triumph of Imperator Furiosa and the women who were subdued by Immortal Joe, at the same time the inhabitants of the citadel gain access to the most vital of liquids: water.

The quality of this film is such that it was the first Mad Max film to participate in the Oscar awards, where it won in the categories of: Best Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Editing, Costume Design, Makeup, and Production Design.
The director George Miller manages to create dialogues, and situations full of surprises, and tension, where with only gestures, looks, situations, and few dialogues, he gets the viewer to get excited.
The film was shot on location in the Namib Desert, Cape Town in South Africa and the Citadel in Australia.
The amount of vehicles we are shown is incredible. They say that 150 vehicles were used and only 15 were left standing.
Almost all the special effects are practical, where we can see a planning and coordination by the team of specialists where these were Olympic athletes, and acrobats from Cirque du Soleil. It is an overwhelming visual spectacle.
The little CGI that was used was to fix details like explosions, remove wires, alter the arena or sky, enhance the background, create crowds, the Citadel, and for Furiosa's arm.
In an action film, editing and editing are a priority as they give that touch of agility to the film. Here, this job is done by Margaret Sixel, and although the editing is frenetic, the viewer doesn't miss a thing.
The sound of the film is brutal, especially the soundtrack by composer Junkie XL, which makes you excited to accelerate the heart in the chases and stunts of vehicles.

The rest of the cast of the film is more than adequate, Hugh Keays-Byrne is Immortan Joe and as the villain alone his presence is imposing and terrifying.
Nicholas Hoult is Nux, one of the War Boys (warriors manipulated by Immortan Joe who are used as kamikazes in the missions in exchange for blood transfusions, or a glorious death that will take them to Valhalla). This character evolves in the film, and even falls in love with one of the fugitives, achieving to some extent to empathize with the viewer.

Mad Max: Fury Road is one of the best action movies ever, very entertaining. It is full of adrenaline and fantastic scenes mostly filmed without CGI, with a devilish and frenetic pace. Its direction is excellent and it shows a meticulous work of planning, editing and execution.
