SupaCell: Black Power Meets Superpowers

This week is already looking overwhelming for me, but that shouldn’t and wouldn’t stop me from having fun and chilling a bit. One of my go to things to release stress is movies. I don’t know when this became a thing for me but I guess it is now.

If you know me, you probably know how much I love action movies. I’ve loved them since I was a kid, and the good part is that I didn’t try to put what I watch to use. If not, I’d have broken so many legs in this vicinity.

If there’s one thing I hate , it is when a movie or show receives so much hype when it’s released. That even deters me from seeing the show because mostly, it’s shit. So, this show received all the hype when it was released and I decided to give it time before seeing it and I finally have. I think all the noise was actually worth it. So, let’s dive into the real deal.

Let’s take a trip all the way to South London, let me brief you on what’s going on there. Everyone is out there living their lives as usual, but as they say, only a selected few are the chosen.

A group of young individuals specifically blacks in their persons of Micheal, Sabrina, Andre, Rodney and Tazer find out they have superpowers.

They all have their personal lives and stuff to deal with and the only thing connecting them is that they all come from families with sickle cell disease.

Micheal just managed to secure a car for he and his fiancée ,Dionne and is looking forward to settling down with her while taking care of his mom who’s down with sickle cell disease.

Sabrina is a nurse who’s doing well but has to deal with her sister , Sharleen who refuses to leave her abusive boyfriend.

Rodney is a university student with family issues who’s living with his roommate-now turned brother, Spud. He’s just trying to survive each day.

Tazer is more like a gang lord in the suburbs doing his own thing while fighting gang wars.

Then there’s Andre who wishes to spend time with his son but his Baby mama is bent on running him dry of all his money. Struggling to make ends meet just to be able to survive and spend time with his son, would he make good use of his powers or not?

Micheal, is able to go into the future on one random day and sees that his fiancée , Dionne is going to lose her life even before they get to spend forever together. Aside this, he also has to protect the others with powers from getting taken away and locked up by people who want to harness these powers. With all that is going on in the life of Micheal and the others, would they be able to find a way together as one and fight this thing together or will things play out just like Micheal saw in the future?

Honestly, I’d rate this show a 10/10 even though it’s just one season and we have to wait until God knows when to see the next season.

One thing I love about this show is how real it was and the fact that they made use of African actors , and names. Sickle cell disease is prevalent among the African race and I’d say it was a good move to use these characters.

The plot was on point, the actors and actresses delivered and I was kept in suspense every minute of the way. What more could I have asked for? This show is totally worth it and you should watch it if you haven’t. Enjoy your day!
