Visit the Servasius church, Combination of Culture and Religion

Hello, everyone. How are you? I hope you are well. I want to tell you about a church that I recently visited: the Servasius church. This church is located in Bekasi, precisely Kampung Sawah, which is very far from the city of Bekasi.

This church is a Romanesque building style like architecture in the 11th-13th centuries. However, there are some differences between the European style and the European style in general, such as the lead glass that tells the life story of Saint Servatius. Usually, when entering a church, the interesting thing is the building.

But, this time I want to tell you about the harmony with Indonesian culture, namely Bekasi. Usually, religion and culture cannot go together. However, in this church, the priests use a lot of local cultural identities. Such as koko shirts, caps and Betawi ngatung pants.

This church is very thick with Betawi culture. Oh yeah, I forgot that this church was founded on October 6, 1896. This church is also close to a famous Islamic boarding school. Living side by side between religions is an interesting thing in Kampung Sawah, Bekasi.

The spread of Christianity occurred in Bekasi, Bekasi used to be Jakarta City. Another interesting thing is that the congregation of this church knows the Sedekah Bumi tradition which is held on May 13. This tradition was carried out and became a tradition of church inculturation.

Sedekah Bumi is also a form of gratitude to God for the produce of the earth. There are coconuts, durian, jackfruit, and others. Betawi traditions are also passed down from generation to generation in this church. This has happened since the church was founded until now. The congregation has used the Betawi tradition.

Not only that, a number of parishes and congregations also wear traditional clothing during worship. I witnessed firsthand that the blend of culture and religion can blend very beautifully. That's all I can tell in this story. What do you think?
