For someone whose choice in movies and dramas have been revolving round romance for a while now, I haven't really watched a lot of action movies but I've watched quite a few good ones and taking a trip down memory lane, I remembered the movie Ballerina. This was a movie I had always come across on Netflix and always scrolled past for one reason or another. Probably because I was always looking for something with a brighter promotional poster or rather, something romance or comedy themed. I later got to watch it when a friend of mine took my phone, downloaded it to watch and didn't delete it. I watched it and I totally enjoyed it.

Ballerina is a Korean movie starring Jeon Jung-Seo, Kim Ji-Hoon and Park Yu-rim. The movie follows a girl Choi Min-hee (Park Yu-rim) who committed suicide after being threatened by Choi Pro (Kim Ji-Hoon) to upload a video of him having sex with her. Her last wish for her best friend, Jang Ok-ju (Jeon Jung-Seo), a former bodyguard, is to avenge her death. All clues pointing at Choi Pro. Ok-ju finds Choi Pro through his internet profile and tries her possible best to lure him into her den but all efforts seems furtive. She finally gets to meet Choi Pro but killing him is a really hard nut to crack as he isn't just a sex trafficker but he also works for a crime organization.

I loved this movie because as much as it lacked too many spoken words, it was still easy to understand and follow through. The role of the main character didn't require much talks during the course of the movie. Being a loner and her only friend dead, most of her actions were carried out in silence. The only exceptions being where communication is necessary. For instance, when she wanted to make a bargain for the weapons sold to her. There weren't any unnecessary talks in the movie and I must commend the director as the movie still wasn't confusing with the lack of communication it entailed.

I also found the end of this movie very satisfying. The movie which had a scintillating plot and storyline did not fail to get a befitting end. I was grateful that it wasn't characterized by the usual hasty/sloppy endings associated with movies of it's kind. I wouldn't buttress on this point for the purpose of avoiding spoilers.

Worthy of mention also, was the main leads in this movie. They totally understood the assignment given to them. They portrayed the characters emotions so well and also, Jeon Jung-Seo's skill in the area of martial arts is something I admired. She did the whole thing with ease, considering the fact that martials isn't something she does on a daily basis. I really liked the way the actors performed. The emotional scenes got to me and I found myself blinking severally in a bid to stop the tears already threatening to fall when scenes that showed the relationship between the two friends before the death of Min-hee were aired.

Did I mention the suspense in this movie? I had expected less from this movie but I was suspended from the beginning to the end. I kept looking forward to what happens next to Choi Pro every now and then. The movie kept me on my toes while watching it that I didn't even drop my phone. And when I say I didn't drop my phone, my face was glued to the phone screen all through. Luckily for me, I was the only one at home that day. I had all my attention glued to my screen for the whole time the movie aired.

Aside from the fact that the movie did not really have much bright scenes, It was totally worth the watch. It's something I would recommend to those who are looking for a suspense-filled action thriller. I hope you enjoy it just like I did.
