I was bored. I wanted to watch a movie. I prefer watching series to movies but I decided to step out of the usual and watch a movie. What better way to step out of the usual, and into the unknown, than to begin treading on familiar grounds? I love the horror genre. Although I don't get to watch them frequently, I still love it.

I had downloaded this movie for about a week or so. But I didn't get around to watching it till today. So, I'm here to share my opinions on the movie titled THE DELIVERANCE.

source

The Deliverance is a 1hr 50mins movie, based on a true story starring Andra Day (Ebony), Caleb McLaughlin (Nate), Anthony B. Jenkins (Andre) and Demi Singleton (Shante).

It follows the story of Ebony, a divorced woman with three kids. When she moves into a new house, with her mom and her kids, she is monitored by a woman named Cynthia, a child services worker who was assigned to her on account of her drinking habits. After a while they moved into the house, strange things begin to happen. At night, Ebony begins to hear strange sounds. From waking up to her room door being shut, to seeing strange faces towering above her in her sleep. Not only does she experience weird things at night, at school, her kids begin to exhibit strange behaviours.

But when they're are taken to a therapist for examination, they aren't diagnosed with anything. When these happenings continue to persist, she requests help from Cynthia who instead reports her for drug use. Thus, she is imprisoned, her children taken away from her. But this does not stop the weird happenings as they continue to manifest even while they're away from the house. It is left to Ebony to find a way to deliver her children from the hands of whatever evil holding them hostage.

This movie had a very satisfying ending. The ending was completely worth the 1hr 52mins for which the show aired. I'm not going to dwell much on how good the ending was because I hate to give spoilers. The ending was actually the best part of the movie. In a way, I feel the ending was the only part the script writer thought deeply about. The other parts, he probably wrote them and tried to fit them to the ending. I'll classify them as just good enough to pass time.

Ebony as a mother. She was portrayed as a woman who loved her kids and would fight the whole world if anybody as much as hurt a hair on any of her kid's heads. I loved her strength, I loved her resilience. The fact that nobody believed her or wanted to believe her when she kept on telling them her kids were in danger was saddening. Even her mom who lived in the same house, went as far as accusing her for her kids strange behaviour. That was a sad thing to see in the movie.

This is a very slow paced movie. It is slow-paced to the extent that you don't even get to experience the creepiness and the suspense associated with horror movies till you're halfway past the movie. It was suspenseful. But more of the suspense came at the end of the movie. If not for I already read before I downloaded it, that it was a horror movie, halfway into it and the title seemed horrorish, I wouldn't have believed it was of the horror genre. It was more drama than horror. The horror vibe only came later, in the movie. That isn't what I look for in a horror movie. I need spooky openings. Creepy entrances. Goosebumps-inducing scenes.

It was a nice movie. Nice enough to pass time but not nice enough for a boring afternoon.
I'll give it a 6.5/10. Bonus points to it's ending. I'm emphasizing the ending cause that was the only part that gave me goosebumps. The others were just plain okay.

Have you watched this movie? What are your thoughts on it?

Thanks for reading

I've heard things about this movie from TikTok and the rest. I even say statements from people asking that we shouldn't watch it because of how manipulative it is to the audience's mind.

And now I'm reading your review and seeing a total negation from this. Lol. I don't think I'll watch it anyway. But your review was beautiful and I'm glad I read it.🌺

Manipulative? I didn't see it as manipulative. Or maybe I'm a stronger manipulator 😂
Thank you for this heartwarming comment.

You're the only one I've come across with a positive review of this film. Others have just been attaching religion and giving biased opinions.

The ending was actually the best part of the movie

That's a first! For a horror film. I haven't seen one with a satisfying ending and I'm surprised to learn this one does.

Lovely review btw.

This one does have a good ending. I didn't see anything going against religion in it. They probably said it because the protagonist was against her mother doing religious things. She later accepted it. And that's what happens always in horror movies

Oh, the joys of a good horror/exorcist film where no one believes the protagonist. Lovely! Hehe.

It sure was a lovely film. They made the protagonist appear crazy😂
