You can thank @hetty-rowan and @thisismylife for the use of this "mouthwatering" gif!!!! rofl!

My foray into all things foodie documentaries continues with the sweetly, charming The Donut King that is currently streaming on Hulu. It was suggested to me by the all-knowing documentary brain living in the Hulu algorithm after watching the amazing, Ramen Heads. This is a moving story of rags-to-riches, success, a fall, redemption, and the sweet, sweet love of donuts. As most of you know I've spent the last 24 years as a cop, so you can guess I know a thing or two about a donut or two....or three.....or four thousand dozen...lololol!!!! And although I live a fairly strict carnivore diet nowadays, I still remember the glorious rapture associated with taking the first bite out of a warm, luscious donut!

This documentary chronicles the life, dreams, fall, and redemption of Cambodian immigrant, Ted Ngoy, as he escaped a certain death from the Khmer Rouge by escaping Cambodia and eventually resettling in immigrant camps created in California in the 1970s. Through hard work, determination, and a sheer will that would not be denied, Ngoy learned several trades and eventually was trained as a donut baker and this would lead him down a path of donut immortality as the "godfather" of independently owned donut shops in California.

He became legendary in his quest to help other Cambodian immigrants gain a foothold in their new homeland through the training in donut making and providing them with the funding and support to create thriving businesses for themselves and generations of family to follow.

His successes are overshadowed by his gambling habits and a fall from grace ensues before he regains some modicum of his former life in the resurgence of Cambodian-owned donut shops as they reinvent themselves to fully utilize current technology and social media marketing.

You will not want to miss this charming telling of one man's very unique story. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I think you will also. Thank yo so much for taking the time to read my post and remember that I love you all and you have the power of greatness within you!!!
