Black Warrant (2025) - Series Review

An Indian series called "Black Warrant" came on Netflix a few days ago. Which takes us to Tihar Jail in India in 1980. and gives us an idea of the day-to-day events that take place there. In some details, how the inmates there manage their lives and how the staff there manage more than two thousand inmates, how they keep themselves safe among the inmates. All these we will see in this series.

The series currently has an 8.1/10 rating on IMDb. A few episodes even got a 9+ rating. So let me share with you how this series is and how I like it.

Positive Aspects

• Realistic Prison Setup
  If I talk about the positive aspects of this series, then I will say that the best of this series is the setups. The prisons shown in the series show the control rooms, the area shown, the complete setup inside Tihar. All of them seem much more realistic.

• Engaging and Impactful Stories
  Each episode of the series featured a different story. And some stories will give you goosebumps. At times it seems that this is a fictional story, which is made up for the series so that we can experience the drama. But if you read the original source of this series, a book called "Black Warrant", these things are also written there. How what happened in Tihar Jail? The book was written by Sonil Gupta, who was actually a district jailer in 1980 in Tihar.

While watching the series we see the story from his point of view. Some are so disturbing that it seems like how painful it actually was. Example, in the second episode there is a scene where two people are hanged but one of them does not die, instead he hangs on the rope for two hours. And next a soldier goes there and hangs the hanging prisoner by the leg so that the prisoner dies quickly and then he dies. Once you imagine how painful it was to see in reality. This stuff will make your heart beat faster when you watch it in the series. Thus the small story that takes place in Tihar Jail, makes us experience this series through different episodes.

• Well-Developed Characters
  Each of the characters featured in the series are well designed. DSP Rajesh Tomar who is shown as senior. Sunil Kumar Gupta who was the main character. Vipin Dahiya and Shivraj Singh Mangat as friends of the main characters.

These characters are written in such a beautiful way that you will not connect with any particular character but with all the characters. Although there were many differences between these characters, the bond shown between them was very strong. It was so realistic when watching it on my screen that it felt like they were talking right in front of me.

Another good thing about this series is that the people who were imprisoned also have a specific back story.

Negative Aspects

So far I have talked about the positive aspects of this series but if I talk about the negatives. Although there were not too many negatives in this series. A small negative is that this series will not appeal to everyone. This series may seem a little slow to many. Many cannot wait to finish this series. But I will definitely recommend you to watch this series. In it you will experience something that you have never experienced before in any other series.

You can watch one episode every day if you want. In this you can experience the series better. Also you can watch all the episodes at the same time if you want, it's totally your choice.

Final Verdict

If I were to rate this series it would be 9 out of 10.

Rather, if I were to make a list of the best series of 2025 so far, this would be at the top. Because I really like it a lot. Especially the last episode was much better.
