CineTV Contest: Don't look up (ENG/ESP)

Hello CineTV community!! I made it just in time for this week contest 😅 , which I have to say that I thought it would be easier, but I realized that there are quite a lot of different astronomical phenomenom in movies, I thought about metheors, UFO's, I even considered Twister because of the flying cow 🤣 , I mean, a flying cow qualifies as:

anything that can happen in the sky that can be observed

as mentioned in the Cine Tv Contest No. 102, right?

I'm kinda shocked that there aren't many entries for this contest, and honestly I thought that my pick would had already been posted.

The movie I picked for this contest is: Don't look up, a movie that premiered in 2021 and has many big stars starring in it, like Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Jonah Hill, Timothée Chalamet, Ron Perlman, Ariana Grande, Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep, amongst many many others.

The movie is about a giant asteroid approaching Earth, scientists Kate and Dr. Randall discover the asteroid and at first are excited about the discovery but as soon as they find out that it's going to hit Earth they need to let everyone know in order to do something about it.

Both scientists are ignored, the U.S. President portrayed by Meryl Streep doesn't really care about it, and audience in general isn't interested either, they all care about celebrities gossips, the only mentions they post about the scientists are to create memes mocking them.

A rich entrepeneur who cares about technology and its advances gets involved in the "save the world" campain because he wants the asteroid's minerals, he claims the materials will be very helpfull for techlology.

Due to the rich man's interests, the whole plan changes, at first they plan to hit the asteroid with misiles, and send a man to be the hero who dies saving the world, this just to add drama to the whole situation, as if saving the world from ending wasn't drama enough... anyway, the plan changes in order for the rich guy to mine the asteroid.

Lots of high tech drones are sent to the asteroid but it all fails, is just when the asteroid is visible by everyone that persons around the world start to believe that the whole asteroid thing was true and not just conspiracy.

The scientists that at first were desperated to be heard are now relatively calm when they see the approaching asteroid, they welcome the end peacefully surrounded by the persons they care about and talk about anything but the asteroid, it's chilling to see how they are eating pie and talking about coffee when the world around them is being destroyed and they know they won't survive.

In the end, we see remains of what was left of the world just floating in space, and the powerfull and rich people landing in another unknown planet.

I find this movie more realistic to what would happen if an asteroid were going to hit Earth, sure, there's a charm in movies where people save the world in such an heroic way like hiring a bunch of men experts in digging holes and somehow train them to get them ready to travel to space and dig holes in an asteroid... or even being saved by Earth's pollution where the asteroid is destroyed by the atmosphere like happened in The Simpsons 😅 ... It's also exciting to see how a couple of men fly a spaceship that crashed in the 50's, go to outher space and plant a computer virus in the alien's mothership... but let's be honest... generally speaking, we are not very interested in what happens in the sky or in scientific articles that warn us about things that put Earth and us at risk, most people claim it to be fake and we are more interested in which celebrity broke up with whom, or what a random influencer is doing or we are glued to our cellphones watching endless reels with whatever the algorithm throws at us.

In the movie, I love how by using the influence of famous celebrities is the answer to finally make everyone realize what's going on, Ariana Grande sings a cool song with great lyrics that sum up everything, I specially like the part where she sings:

Celebrate, Or cry or pray ...
Whatever it takes to get you through the mess that we made!
Cause, tomorrow may never come

What I also find realistic about it, is how the world is by nature, take the pandemic as an example, we all were told not to go out, and the first thing most people did was going out and claim everything was a lie, in here scientists are fighting to be heard and make everyone to just look up and what do people do? they claim everything to be fake and stick glued to their phones instead of just looking up and see with their own eyes what's happening.

Another detail that I saw as a foolish move but I know for sure would happen for real, is that when the asteroid is about to crash, all of the people nearby are filming it to share on their social media... we're so used to share everything and do nothing... well there's really nothing much you can do when a giant rock is about to squish you, but why don't they give a last hug to their loved ones? or call that special person who is far, or go eat their favorite meal, or even scream your deepest secret or regret, whatever instead of filming something that won't be posted or shared anyway because everything is about to end.

None of us know how would we act during an end of the world kind of situation, in my case everytime I see a movie with an impeding apocalypse I think that whatever happens I would take my cats with me and run to my parents' house 😅

¡¡Hola comunidad de CineTV!! apenas si alcancé a llegar a tiempo para el concurso de la semana 😅 , el cual debo decir pensé sería más fácil, pero me di cuenta de que hay bastante variedad de fenómenos astronómicos en películas, pensé sobre meteoritos, ovnis, hasta consideré Tornado por su vaca voladora 🤣 , quiero decir, una vaca voladora cuenta como:

cualquier cosa que pueda pasar en el cielo y pueda ser observado

como se menciona en el Concurso No. 102 Cine TV, ¿no?

Estoy algo sorprendida de que no hay tantas entradas para este concurso, y honestamente pensé que mi elección ya estaría posteada por alguien más.

La película que elegí para el concurso es: No miren arriba, una película que se estrenó en 2021 y tiene varias grandes estrellas protagonizando, como Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Jonah Hill, Timothée Chalamet, Ron Perlman, Ariana Grande, Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep entre muchos otros.

La película trata sobre un asteroide gigante que se acerca a la Tierra, los científicos Kate y Dr. Randall descubren el asteroide y al inicio están emocionados por el descubrimiento, pero tan pronto se dan cuenta que impactará la tierra necesitan hacer que todos se enteren para poder hacer algo al respecto.

Ambos científicos son ignorados, la presidenta de E.U.A interpretada por Meryl Streep realmente no se interesa por ello, y la audiencia en general tampoco está interesada, todo lo que les interesa son chismes de celebridades, lo único que postean en redes sobre los científicos es para crear memes burlándose de ellos.

Un empresario rico a quien le importa mucho la tecnología y sus avances se involucra en el proyecto de "salvar al mundo" porque quiere los minerales del asteroide, asegura que los materiales serán muy útiles para la tecnología.

Debido a los intereses del rico todo el plan cambia, al inicio planean golpear al asteroide con misiles y enviar a un hombre a ser el héroe que da su vida para salvar al mundo, esto solo para añadir drama a toda la situación, como si salvar al mundo de acabar no fuera drama suficiente... en fin, el plan cambia para que el hombre rico se ponga a minar el asteroide.

Varios drones de alta tecnología son enviados al asteroide pero todos fallan, es hasta cuando el asteroide es visible a simple vista por todos que todas las personas al rededor del mundo comienzan a creer que todo el asunto del asteroide era verdad y no solo una conspiración.

Los científicos que al inicio estaban desesperados por hacerse escuchar están ahora relativamente calmados cuando ven al asteroide acercándose, le dan la bienvenida al final de forma pacífica rodeados por las personas que les importan y hablan de todo menos el asteroide, es estremecedor ver como están comiendo pay y hablando de café cuando el mundo al rededor de ellos está siendo destruido y saben que no sobrevivirán.

Al final vemos restos de lo que quedó del mundo flotando en el espacio, y los ricos y poderosos aterrizando en un planeta desconocido.

Esta película me parece más realista en cuanto a lo que sucedería si un asteroide fuera a impactar a la Tierra, claro, hay cierto encanto en las películas donde las personas salvan al mundo de una manera heroica como contratando a un montón de hombres expertos en cavar hoyos y de alguna manera los entrenan para alistarlos a ir al espacio y cavar hoyos en un asteroide... o hasta ser salvados por la contaminación de la Tierra donde el asteroide es destruido por la atmósfera como ocurrió en Los Simpsons 😅 ... también es emocionante ver a un par de hombres volar una nave espacial que se estrelló en los 50's, ir al espacio exterior y plantar un virus de computadora a la nave nodriza de los alienígenas... pero seamos honestos... hablando de manera general, no estamos muy interesados en lo que ocurra en el cielo o en los artículos científicos que nos advierten sobre cosas que ponen a la Tierra en riesgo, la mayoría de la gente asegura que todo es falso y estamos más interesados en qué celebridad terminó con quien, o qué está haciendo algún influencer aleatorio o estamos pegados a nuestros celulares viendo infinidad de reels con lo que sea que el algoritmo nos lance.

Amo cómo en la película usar la influencia de celebridades famosas es la respuesta a finalmente hacer que todos se den cuenta de lo que ocurre, Ariana Grande canta una genial canción con buena letra que resume todo, en especial me gusta la parte donde canta:

Celebra o llora o reza...
Lo que sea necesario para hacerte pasar por el desastre que hicimos
Porque el mañana puede que nunca llegue.

También lo que me parece realista, es como es el mundo por naturaleza, tomemos la pandemia como ejemplo, a todos nos dijeron que no saliéramos, y lo primero que la mayoría hizo fue salir y alegar que todo era una mentira, aquí los científicos están luchando por ser escuchados y hacer que todos simplemente miren arriba, pero ¿qué es lo que hace la gente? aseguran que todo es falso y siguen pegados a sus teléfonos en lugar de mirar al cielo y ver con sus propios ojos lo que está pasando.

Otro detalle que vi y me pareció una movida tonta pero sé que seguramente pasaría realmente, es que cuando el asteroide está por impactar, todas las personas al rededor están filmando para compartirlo en sus redes sociales... estamos tan acostumbrados a compartir todo y hacer nada... bueno, realmente no hay mucho que se pueda hacer cuando una roca gigante está por aplastarte, pero ¿por qué no darle un último abrazo a tus seres queridos? o llamar a esa persona especial que está lejos, o ir a comer la comida favorita, o incluso gritar tu más grande secreto o arrepentimiento, lo que sea en vez de grabar algo que no será posteado ni compartido porque todo está por terminar.

Ninguno de nosotros sabemos como reaccionaríamos ante una situación de fin del mundo, en mi caso cada que veo una película con apocalípsis inevitables pienso que lo que sea que pase yo me llevaría a mis gatas conmigo y correría a casa de mis padres 😅 .

Y bueno, esta fue mi entrada al concurso semanal, gracias por darse una vuelta a leer.
