CineTV Contest: Interstellar (2014) - The Blackhole of Time.

While watching the trailer of this movie before writing this review, I noticed it was showing "10 years ago"! 10 years? This movie feels like it was released a day ago, although I have watched it many times.

I was thinking about what movie I should pick for this contest and this is the first one that came to my mind.

This movie is about 'Time.' How a father gets lost in the galaxy searching for a new place to live in. But it's more about the love of the family, the father-daughter relationship, memory, and love.

Plot (without spoiler)

It's a sci-fi movie where they showed the end time of earth is coming and there's no way to save it. So the scientists decided to send people to the galaxy to search for another planet where the people of Earth could settle.

They sent Matthew McConaughey (Cooper in the film) - a former NASA pilot to the mission with others. He has to leave his daughter 'Murph' on earth but promises to come back.

As the time is different on Earth and on other planets so it took him time to end the mission and come back to Earth. By the time he reaches to his daughter, she already is on her deathbed. He keeps his promise.

What's so interesting about this film?

The plot, the storyline.

There's no other movie that I know showed this concept of 'time' in this way before this film. Some major scenes show how on different planets they spend time.

One major scene was on the water planet, where an hour was equal to seven hours on Earth. So being on that planet would not only kill their mission time but would increase their age on Earth. That was a mind-blowing concept to show this way.

Another major scene is when Cooper tries to communicate with his daughter through a coded message by knocking the books on the selves when he is stuck in the fifth dimension. That was a very thoughtfully executed scene.

All through this movie, there were mind-blowing scenes, and thought-provoking facts that made it a super hit movie not only for
those times but made it a timeless movie.

Before you watch...

This movie is might not enjoyable for everyone. People who love sci-fi, out-of-the-box concepts would love this. But as it's not an 'easy to watch' film, and there are many major scenes that require some knowledge of planets, galaxies, etc so it will take some time to grasp the concept of the film.

The movie gets slow in some scenes, sometimes the characters explain a lot about what's going on, etc. You may not like it.

I enjoyed it in the first time. But 2/3rd time, I get the whole concept.

I like the fact that Interstellar is not a movie full of facts and sci-fi concepts. But they incorporated the emotion, bond, and love successfully and it was emotional at the end.

It's thought-provoking, with good animation/CGI, and has the sentimental facts that make it a timeless one.

It got IMDb 8.7/10, and Rotten Tomatoes 73%. I would give it 9/10. As I said earlier, it took me a few times to grasp the whole concept but I enjoyed the film.

I missed it but I'll see it. Christopher Nolan is a great film director. I suggest you see Memento and Inception as well.

Watch this, it's a great movie.

Thank you for the suggestion, I have seen both of the film. I will try to write reviews on them soon.

When you write about Inception, if you remember this, mention me in the post that I want to read it.

I recently saw a gif on how different planets rotate round the sun. While some were fast, some were moderate and others were slow. Reading the article of that gif I realized that the rotation of these planets round the sun counts as time and the faster it rotates the shorter it's hour in a day. Your review just made me have a flash back of that documentary. I think this is a movie I would love to see. Added to the watch list

If you have an interest in this topic, watch this film.
There's a meme on this film's scene also. When they visit a planet, one hour is equal to 7 years. People say they will visit that planet and finish off their PhD degree in one hour and then come back to Earth. lol
