Miracle in Cell No. 7: Korean or Turkish version - Which one I liked the most?
Love, sacrifice, emotion, two sides of the society - A good combination of everything is what made this film a masterpiece.
Miracle in Cell No. 7 is a movie that every movie lover should watch. Not because it got international fame. But it will give you a different perspective, the pure emotion they showcased in the film is heart-wrenching. If you are sobbing while watching films, go for it; you will have a good cry.
The Turkish version.
The movie first released in 2013, a South Korean film directed by Lee Hwan-kyung. It was a massive hit and got international recognition. Then in 2019, the Turkish remake was made.
I watched the Turkish one first and then watched the original one. I enjoyed both of them. Let's not compare but give you my honest review. Before that, let's see what it's about.
Spoiler
The movie is about a mentally challenged man who was falsely accused of the murder of a little girl who was the daughter of a high official. He got a death sentence and was kept in cell no. 7.
The man had a daughter, he was divorced and his daughter was taken care of by his elderly mother. But he was a great father and loved his daughter very much. So when he went to jail, he missed his daughter and talked about her with his inmates.
He has high profile people as his inmates who helped him to reunite with his daughter in the jail. Later, the inmates fake the mentally challenged man's death sentence and help him escape the jail and reunite with his daughter.
The movie is very dramatic, maybe in real life all those coincidences and drama wouldn't take place. But the film successfully showed the real face of the society, how people misuse the power, our failed justice system, how a mentally challenged man is treated in society, the poverty, the difference between rich and poor, etc.
No doubt both of the films are heart-touching and very successful. If I have to give points, then I may give 1 point more to the Turkish one.
The Korean version.
Why I liked the remake more than the original one?
The Turkish one is more on an emotional side which goes with my preference. It shows the sentiments more and amplifies the true emotions. On the other hand, the Korean version showed the drama and comedic side (in the prison) more.
The performance of Aras Bulut was so satisfying to watch. It never felt he was acting. Compared to the Korean one, he portrays the mentally challenged character pretty well.
The ending was different in the films. The Korean one ends with the execution of the main character, where the Turkish one showed his escape and a new life. A sweet ending seems comforting to watch, although it is a bit dramatic, I have to agree.
If anyone doesn't watch one and the other, they will not feel anything, but would say it's a good film. Because both of the films are good. I would say, there's no comparison but an honest opinion, that's it.
I would give the Turkish one 8.5 and the Korean one 8.
But honestly, you can watch both, they both are that good. The Turkish film got more fame and recognition probably because of portraying the emotional drama so well. As I have said earlier, if you are like me, sobbing while watching a film then I can garuntee you, you will cry with your heart out while watching this film.

It was an accident, no one killed her. But the official didn't accept the words of the mentally challenged man and accused him. Thank you for asking.
