The Skin I Live In (2011) - A thought-provoking film.

If you want to watch a movie that is relevant to recent times, this might be it.

It's imaginary till today, but who knows, this could be true in the future. The way the plastic surgery industry is growing, we probably are heading toward this...

The Skin I live in was released in 2011. It's considerably an old movie. I watched it maybe for the first time in 2015, and then a few times here and there.

Antonio Banderas as the main character in a plastic surgeon role was the major reason to watch this. Also, the theme is not usual. It has thriller, horror, sci-fi, action, violence, and a little bit of everything.

Spoiler

Skip if you want to enjoy the movie without knowing the plot.

Dr. Ledgard invented a skin that is burn and injury-resistant and applied this to a girl who lost his memory and identity.

He gave the look of his wife, who he lost in an accident, to the new girl and kept her in his home. Vera, the girl, was actually his/his wife's daughter who was subjected to his obsession with control and perfection.

In the end,, the truth was revealed.

What did I like and dislike

  • No question but the acting. Not only Antonio Banderas but others did very well. It's satisfying to see such a good plot and acting.

  • The suspense and the surreal concept of the story were the attractions.

  • There were many twists, and it was hard to follow the storyline is thought-provoking.

  • The twist is also the reason to not like the film. It takes too much attention and concentration to understand the movie.

  • The film is a very slow phase. The first -half will keep you wondering what you are actually watching.

  • A few scenes are unsettling, to me. Like the room Vera was kept in, how the Dr. was in the same bed with her as she was his daughter.

Trailer

The film's twist is when Vera, the daughter of the Dr. wife, comes to know about her true identity. She tries to get through and get out of the doctor's obsession. That's when people get to know what he was doing behind the doors.

Isn't it relevant to the current world situation? Everywhere you go, there's an aesthetic clinic; plastic surgery becomes a daily life occurrence. The surgeons lost their ethics and could do everything for money.

This movie seems irrelevant now but it can be our future. If not accurate, then at least some of this is going to happen shortly compared to the rate of how wired people's obsession and fetish are becoming.

The movie got 7.5 IMDb rating and 82% rotten tomatoes. I would give it 7, not more than that.

It's not a film that you would like to watch for entertainment purposes. But it's the kind of movie that will let you think about the theme and will give you chill and maybe some sleepless hours as well.

Thanks for reading.
