Reseña: Old Boy // Review: Old Boy
Hay títulos que en el momento correcto te pueden impactar mucho, pero pasado ese momento, puede con el tiempo tener un impacto bajo. Eso me ha pasado con este título, que recién vi en Mubi. Estrenada el 2003, siendo su director Park Chan-wook.
There are titles that at the right moment can have a great impact on you, but after that moment, they can eventually have a low impact. That happened to me with this title, which I just saw in Mubi. Released in 2003, being its director Park Chan-wook.
Sinopsis: Oh Dae-su, un padre de familia, ha sido secuestrado, siendo encerrado en un cuarto del que le es imposible salir. Vivirá encerrado en el mismo por 15 años, cuestionando cuál es el motivo de su situación. Luego de ser liberado sin previo aviso, buscará mediante pistas y una voluntad imparable, obtener una venganza.
Synopsis: Oh Dae-su, a family man, has been kidnapped, being locked in a room from which it is impossible for him to get out. He will live locked up in it for 15 years, questioning the reason for his situation. After being released without warning, he will seek, through clues and an unstoppable will, to get revenge.
El protagonista tendrá que investigar con aliados, las posibles razones de su encierro, así como enfrentar, con toda la violencia necesaria, cualquier contraparte, para llegar a la verdad.
The protagonist will have to investigate with allies, the possible reasons for his imprisonment, as well as face, with all the necessary violence, any counterpart, to get to the truth.
La trama si bien es interesante, pues guarda muchos misterios y sorpresas. Al ser del 2003 y ya haber visto varios títulos que realizan lo mismo, realizar giros al final, ya suponía lo que iba a pasar ya por la última tercera parte de la historia, lo que me quito sorpresa. Aunque el trayecto hasta descubrir el misterio no deja de ser interesante de ver, especialmente con un villano que no se oculta.
The plot is interesting, as it keeps many mysteries and surprises. Being from 2003 and having already seen several titles that do the same, making twists at the end, I already assumed what was going to happen by the last third of the story, which took away my surprise. Although the journey to uncover the mystery is still interesting to watch, especially with a villain who does not hide.
Por otro lado, que el protagonista se volviera un hábil luchador encerrado, me ha costado creerlo, tuve que aceptar esa mala excusa. En el tema un tanto filosófico, sobre el precio de la venganza y si acaba valiendo la pena, el film te deja mucho para reflexionar.
On the other hand, that the protagonist became a skilled fighter locked up, I had a hard time believing it, I had to accept that bad excuse. On the somewhat philosophical theme, about the price of revenge and whether it ends up being worth it, the film leaves you with a lot to ponder.
La fotografía es excelente, desde el juego de luces, hasta muchas escenas de acción con un increíble despliegue. La actuación no se queda hasta atrás con el protagonista, interpretado por Choi Min Sik, y el villano, interpretado por Yoo Ji-tae. La música, si bien poca, esta usada para los momentos precisos y generar emociones relacionadas con la trama.
The cinematography is excellent, from the play of lights, to many action scenes with an incredible display. The acting is no slouch with the protagonist, played by Choi Min Sik, and the villain, played by Yoo Ji-tae. The music, though sparse, is used for the right moments and to generate emotions related to the plot.
He de concluir que si bien es un excelente título, en plano personal me faltó sorpresa y cierta verosimilitud. Recomendable.
I have to conclude that although it is an excellent title, personally I lacked surprise and certain verisimilitude. Recommended.
