(ENG/SPA) Rurouni Kenshin Part 1: Origins LIVE ACTION Review
Rurouni Kenshin or better yet Samurai X as I knew him in my childhood is a story that I consider complete in its genre for all the points it develops and the emotion it maintains between character rivalry and political-social conflict of the time in which it is set. It is now in my adulthood that I understand all this more and it makes me a fan of this Samurai with scar on his cheek that I also pleasantly came to like in its Live Action adaptation.
Rurouni Kenshin Part 1: Origins is one of those few Live Action that I have noticed has managed to please at least in my circle of friends and just that encouraged me to see it, we were talking about anime of yesteryear and I had the opportunity to see it with those good friends who recommended it to me immediately.
Maybe this experience of watching it among friends who had already seen it and loved it, made me enjoy the film more but objectively speaking it has many points that I consider in favor to encourage you to see it if you have not yet done so as well as its negative aspects where I expected much more.
- This film does not require as much CGI:
This is the biggest advantage the product has over many other anime or stories that bleed out when they get to feature characters that basically live off of CGI like to mention one example Yu Yu Hakusho.
In my experience what I have noticed that fans of any franchise hate the most is that their characters look grotesque and that is achieved by CGI because it is very fragile the wall that separates the great from the ridiculous and aberrant as in the anime I already mentioned where I noticed the biggest criticism was to those CGI characters.
Rurouni Kenshin requires the skill of Director, Actor and Camera because they manage to connect to bring the dynamics of movement and battle to an enjoyable level and that made a pleasant impact on me. The kinetics of Kenshin the protagonist plus the dynamics of the camera and cameraman's movement is mind-blowing in various scenes.
I have noticed that Asia has many good fight films for the choreography and martial artists but this has not been reflected in many films based on anime or manga, however in this film if I see powerful choreography that visually can please many viewers, not just fans.
- Poor Execution of the Villain:
This element to criticize that falls on actor Koji Kikkawa and his portrayal of Udo Jine was what left me out of the movie the most. As a kid one of my favorite villains is this character because of the visual potential and evil he conveys but I saw movements, costumes and makeup too fake for my eyes.
Regardless of the above, you may like the character and for that I encourage you to watch the movie. In my case the idea that I convey is as a fan of the character in the comic book and of course that makes me demand a lot to the Live Action characterization because in this case I am not a general audience which is easier to satisfy in terms of story but always a fan will demand more and more.
The above must be controlled to be as objective as possible because when we want a Live Action actor to be like the anime, in reality what we want is to see the anime and not the movie punishing more of a product. Based on the above the most objective thing I can say is that the performance of this actor in the film was the most false, his movements exaggerated and repulsive to see making his presence did not impact me, this is the part that most affected my experience of the film.
- It is an Entertaining Story for a General Audience:
As I mentioned in the previous points by not having to rely so much on CGI allows the viewer to focus on the story and this movie has in its favor that it is entertaining for those who do not know the scar swordsman.
One detail is that for fans as always, varied performances such as Saito's among others may come as a shock, for example Sanosuke is too funny for my taste and becomes purely the comedic element of the film but if I step out of my fanboy bubble as I saw my friends laughing happily and enjoying the story with those light elements that allow the viewer to relax and ultimately enjoy the product.
- I wish I had seen more of the Political conflict:
This is a light criticism and as a Fan since if something has power Samurai X is not necessarily the physical Battles... if not the philosophical Battles that bring as a consequence the conflicts of fights between characters.
I am aware that this is difficult to develop in such a short time in the film format and perhaps this will be better developed in the following ones because our protagonist has several Live Action movies of which I have only seen this one.
I definitely invite you to see it because I see many positive aspects to highlight and with this I dismiss the review and still have a long way to go to see the other Live Action adventures of Rurouni Kenshin.

I'm not a fan of live action but for Kenshin I would watch it hehe , good post!
See it girl because it's a must see, I think you may like it as basically the overwhelming majority of the audience that has seen it, you have right here in the other comments mentioned how good it is.
And the best thing is that it's not just one, it's several movies to enjoy 😃
aah that's great, I'll put it on my list to watch then hehe, thanks for the recommendation!
None of the Rurouni kenshin live action is wasted. It's true that we can find things we don't like, but as you say, that's because we want to watch the anime and not the movie.
For me this is the best live action adaptation ever made of an anime/manga, the characters are faithful as well as the arcs, I think it is an underrated wonder.
Thanks for sharing, friend.
That I have noticed muchachon, when I saw it did not upload its existence, which surprises me to see how good it is.
I think what affected it and still has it unknown to many is that the anime ended a long time ago, let's say it's not a recent trend.
Regardless of the above, the important thing is that it is an excellent film and the best thing is that I still have a lot to enjoy because as you say, are several movies 😃
A friend of mine told me that the live action of Ruruoni Kenshin was great.
Now you're saying it too...
Guess I'mma have to check by myself and find out...
ajajajajja believe me it's good and ujusto in other comments of this post also mention it giving even more value to this product.
Also there are several films so the joy, much to enjoy this film that still remains unknown to many 😃
