Days When Movies Portrayed Good Morals.

I am one of those in support of a strict rule for children and their screen time especially watching the Tv because there is more than a thousand thing they could learn from whatever they watch, good and bad. Since kids are believed to not know exactly what is right from wrong, they are at the risk of many things out there. Parent should be respobsible for the kind of movies their children see and be able to guide them sometimes while eatching with them.

I remembered the first television my dad bought, it was the popular hutch back kinda TV. I remember that we would have to go outside to turn the antenna on a long iron pole each time it is rainning just to get a better signal and enjoy the movie without any disturbance. My siblings and I were not so interested in watching Tv until DVD came around and became popular. Before my dad got one in the house, I do go out to watch action movies at a friend's house; mostly chinese actions movies like iron monkey, drunken master, etc.

It took long before my dad got us a DVD player, but before then.... we do watch the local movies available on the channels from the antenna and quite a number of Ghanaian movies too. Aside the adult movies (wihout any real adult content) we also watch catoons in the evening or very early in the morning.(if there is power supply). I remember watching Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs with my siblings around 5:00am - 6:00am, every morning. The whole series lasted for about a month.

Finally, we had our DVD player and my dad bought some movies. Guess the genre..... Dad bought action movies 😂😂. I was so happy and we would watch till the power is seized. We either buy movies stored in disc or collect them from our friends to watch. To balance it, we also buy latest local movies for my mom and her friends to watch. Over time, my sisters got to senior secondary school and started watching popular Phillipines movies, Mara and Clara and the likes; then moved on to Korean movies like City Hunters, Flower boy, etc. I wasn't a fan of auch movies because they act slowly at times unlike the action movies I watch, no love or romance, straight to fighting, shooting of guns, pucnching faces and breaking bones.

One thing I noticed about the movies I watch while growing up is that my dad would always want to see the kind of movies we watched, as long as he is around. Even if they were just cartoons, he would maybe sit to watch for a while or stand and watch from behind us till he is certain that there nothing bad in the movies we watch. I started watching action movies around age 12, I sneak out to my friends home to watch and there was almost no adult content in those movies then. I also do not mimick those fighting scene or get into a real fight because I was scared of what my dad would do if he ever saw me.

Growing up, I remember that when we were watching movies with adult and there is any adult content, it was customary for us to close our eyes and also cover our eyes with our palms. That was because there were not expecting a scene like that to show up and the next thing they say is "eh close your eyes" and we dare not open our eyes. I remembered I did that too several times for kids who are watching movies with me. I remembered vividly when a boy (should be around 15 years) was watching an action movies with me and there was a scene when two lovers kissed, the boy put is face to another direction for a while. That's a proof that his parents must have taught him well.

I have seen few movies that are rated 13 but are not supposed to be watched by any 13 year old child. There was a time I began to wonder if the country where such movies were produced have changed their rules and morals or they just moved from 19years as ideal age for responsibility to 13 years. I do no expect any 13 year old child to be exposed to some of the contents shown in those movies. I can't say much about this because it varies from country to country; somethings that are allowed in many white countries are not allowed here e.g 13 years to 15 years in a relationship and their parents are aware of it, kissing also.

I can't wrap my head around it but it just doesn't seem right. Many things have change over the years and many more will still change. Kids are already doing what we only got to do when we became youths.

Some movies that are rated 13 aren't even suitable for a thirteen-year-old, your dad did a nice job in monitoring what you people watch in the house.

He tried as much as he could whenever he was around. Thank you for engaging with my post.

Movies have impact on the morals of the children and that's why monitoring them is very important. I didn't have the privilege of watching movies as a child because we had none...only the little I watched unguided from neighbors house...but currently, I guide what my kids consume to avoid negativity

Sometime I do think of sueing these movies industry for rating a move and not keeping to the guide lines

It is sad that we can't sue them because some are even backed by the government.

Honestly it is really painful that the government are really behind them
