Dave Chappelle - The Dreamer (2023) review: If it ain't broken...

Like “The Closer,” Dave Chappelle's most recent special for Netflix “The Dreamer” starts out rather weakly to progressively win our hearts with a brilliant structure that far from presenting a sequence of jokes woven by a general theme, could be defined rather as a group of isolated stories that serve to immerse us in Dave's relationship with his return to fame, racism and political correctness.
However, while The Dreamer provides us with a fun and emotional experience, we regret that it spends a considerable portion of its running time reinterpreting several ideas that we have previously seen executed more effectively, especially when it comes to the Washington comedian's complex feelings about members of the LGBT community.
Specials like Sticks and Stones or The Bird Revelation not only were funnier when it came to playing with those topics, but at the same time I feel that they came from an empathetic and progressive place, something perfectly logical considering the humble beginnings of Chappelle’s career being part of a minority.
The Dreamer is brilliant when exploring new territory and focusing on being introspective rather than looking for easy laughs with a formula that has worked for him before.
Beyond this there is little to say, the direction by Stan Lathan is great and despite its weaker moments it is still far above the average comedy special, a testament to Dave Chappelle's ability to hook us for an hour.

Al igual que “The Closer”, el especial más reciente de Dave Chappelle para Netflix “The Dreamer” empieza bastante flojo para progresivamente ganarse nuestro corazón con una estructura brillante que, lejos de presentar una secuencia de chistes hilados por una temática general, podría definirse más bien como un grupo de historias aisladas que sirven para sumergirnos en la relación que tiene Dave con su regreso a la fama, el racismo y la corrección política.
No obstante, aunque The Dreamer nos brinda una experiencia divertida y emotiva, lamentamos que dedique una porción considerable de su duración a reinterpretar varias ideas que hemos visto ejecutadas previamente de forma más efectiva, especialmente cuando se trata de los sentimientos complejos del comediante de Washington ante los miembros de la comunidad LGBT.
Especiales como Sticks and Stones o The Bird Revelation, no solo resultaban mucho más divertidos a la hora de teclear estos temas, sino que al mismo tiempo siento que venían de un lugar empático y progresista, algo perfectamente lógico considerando los humildes inicios de su carrera al formar parte de su carrera.
The Dreamer es brillante cuando explora nuevos territorios y se enfoca en ser introspectivo en vez de buscar risas fáciles con una fórmula que ya le ha funcionado antes.
Más allá de esto hay poco que decir, la dirección por parte de Stan Lathan es estupenda y pese a sus momentos más flojos sigue estando muy por encima del especial de comedia promedio, un testamento a la habilidad que tiene Dave Chappelle para engancharnos durante una hora.

No lo he visto, tendria que darle una ojeada para visualizar un poco la forma de lo que entabla. La satira política me gusta. Claro siempre que no cause ningun detrimento.
Es divertido y fácil de digerir, aunque repite varios temas que había tratado en especiales anteriores.
