Although I knew that it had been very well received in terms of criticism, I consider that the series created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone shines better when we see it from a current perspective, something that can often cause its best stories to remain stuck in the historical moment. that arose.

There are exceptions, obviously, but there is something in the production process of each episode that ends up perpetually stagnating them in time, something that obviously should not harm our ability to appreciate them, but which can turn revisiting them into a slightly tedious task.

This is a silly prejudice, I admit, and "Bigger, Longer and uncut" is an example of this, since not only does it still have a relevant premise in the middle of 2024, but it has also been thematically reinforced by the passage of the years.

Although on the surface it may seem like a musical that uses vulgarity as an incentive to attract people, a deeper exploration of it reveals a dense criticism of the culture of censorship, and how inconsistent we often are in deciding what deserves to be. massively consumed and not.

The brilliant thing about the matter is that this criticism is not built to the detriment of the film's ability to be entertaining, and, many times, it finds the perfect point between subtlety and exaggeration to land it appropriately.

It contributes greatly to this point that despite the simplicity of South Park's animation style, Bigger Longer and Uncut represents a considerable improvement in terms of production over traditional episodes (especially if we take into account the technical limitations of the time compared to the today) and features several of the best gags that Parker and Stone have written during their entire careers.

It is a Trojan horse, which, without giving up the usual style that we usually expect from a franchise like South Park, knows how to make us think, something commendable considering that more than 20 years have passed since its original theatrical release.

Good music, emotional moments and several of the best jokes ever seen in an animated film. South Park the movie has it all.
