Dune Part 1

By now most of the readers of my movie blogs know that I'm not one to rush to watch a film as it just gets released and thus be influenced by the populace of it's fans and their views.
That's why I'm just watching the first part of Dune which wowed viewers in its release. In actuality, I did forget about this movie, and just remembered it last year when the second part came out.
In a way I'm glad I waited that long, hence I wouldn't be kept on suspense for 3+ years.

Dune Part 1

Plot

Paul Atreidis arrives on Arrakis, the desert planet, after his father had been ordered there by the imperial Emperor to be it's Lord.
Not long after his arrival is the Emperor's true plan revealed and Paul and his household is attacked, leaving his father dead and he and his mother at the mercy of the desert.
Now Paul wonders in search for the Fremen both for sanctuary and to fulfill his destiny..

Before finally watching this movie, there were already so many reviews of the film that I've read or heard that I didn't just know what to think.
Some compared it to the likes of Game of Thrones and said it was the 21st Decade Star Wars.

First of all, I took the disrespect to star wars quite personal after I was through watching this movie and I left quite an earful at the speakers Whatsapp chat.
Secondly, this just support my claim of over gassing up a movie for someone and watching it fall way below their expectations..

The movie was slow.
Yes. I said it. The Great Dune Part 1, was incredibly slow. I kept on waiting for the huge burst of awesome that would leave me gaping wow at my computer screen.
I waited the full two hours and thirty five minutes for it. Till now I'm still waiting, maybe the awesome is a post movie kind of thing...
Nothing yet.

This movie has a way of making even the most meagre of actions sluggish and it had the fighting choreography, albeit slightly better than the normal acting and movement, it was still unexpectedly drab in my eyes.

This movie would have been a total failure if not for the scenes and world building.
That's one thing that fantasy books movies almost never ruins though.
The planet of Arrakis despite being only desert found a way to keep my interest and I loved the details in the giant worm. I guess that's why it won the awards for best visual effects and best cinematography in 2022.

It was even more of a downfall because of the acting line up with likes of Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Timotheé Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson, the show still seemed flat to me.
95% of fans loved the visuals, and I guess I'm part of them.

Dune Part 2 has already come out, and Part 3 is due 2026, and if I'm being honest, I don't see myself watching Part 2 in any near future...

I also didn't like Dune part 1 aside from the visuals when I saw it in the cinema thinking at the end, no way that I will go see part 2. Especially the sound and the constant singing lady voice really annoyed me like crazy about the 1st Dune movie. Eventually I saw Part 2 last week as the reviews were a lot better but it kind of was the same for me without the annoying singing voice all the time. I don't regret watching it but again am thinking, no way that I will watch part 3.

There is just something about the dune franchise and story that doesn't click for me and I don't understand why these movies are paised so much and get those scores.

Real...

Cause what I just watched was a 6, maybe solid 6.5 out of 10.

Yet people calling it a masterpiece and other such things 😂😭

I think I prefer the delivery they offered in this first part than the part 2. Either, they did a great job at both. Wonderful review by the way
