Parachute (2023) : A Journey to Love and Healing
The story began with Riley a young woman that is trying to resume the control of her life, the night that we met her as audience that same she was released from a rehabilitation following instructions from her therapist and one of those rules was not have any relationship with the opposite sex but, as we see is already a but, that night she went to a bar with a couple of friends and met Ethan a musician that made click with her, rapidly they decided to end the night in Riley house to in fact have sex but something wrong happen when Ethan remove his clothes, one of the demons of Riley show up, Riley is not a normal person, she has internal battles that need to work with such as the eating disorder, body dysmorphia, the addiction to social media and the fixation that she still have with her ex boyfriend, as mention she is living with those internal demos that never abandon her, after the freak out that she has when she saw Ethan naked, he just decided not judge her, instead she understand her situation and told that in that case they can just cuddling and watch some TV show and they did. In this point we start to thing where are her parents, well she is living alone in her department and have credit card that seems to be unlimited because she always use it but her parents are not with her not anymore, apparently they decided that she is perfectly capable of live along but that situation also has increase her crisis. Well returning to Riley and Ethan they start a friendship relationship creating a bond and an attraction that is undeniable but never crossing the line, he is always there for her no matter the crisis she is passing through he is always there, and start that questioning of if he real in love and want to protect her or he is also someone that has the necessity to feel that is needed and she is the perfect companion for that, despite those doubts the true is that here is where the real story of Ethan and Riley begin passing for so many odd situations because of her crisis, family issues and self destruction but this is the journey that we are going to witness and confirm if at the end they are together with that famous phrase of “and they lived happily ever after”.
Parachute is a movie directed by Brittany Snow with a very personal story about her eating disorder and the search of the relationship where the persons involve love so much the other half that at the end create an stronger self love because if we can’t accept who we are in that case we don’t love us and we can’t love anyone else. It is a really cruel premise but a thoughtful idea of real relationship that are dealing with battle and sometimes just decided to end everything for the best. A movie that want to create awareness about the mental healthy and how it affect our daily life and others around us. The movie was premiered in the South by Southwest Film and TV Festival were the rising director won the Thunderbird Rising Special Award and actress Courtney Eaton won the Special Jury Award for Performance. As the director says everyone has a parachute available is our life that soften our fall.

Taking the lead in this movie is Courtney Eaton she take the role of Riley. Eaton is an Australian actress who began her career as a model, during that time she took an audition for a role that she wining and made her acting debut in the action film Mad Max: Fury Road, she also appeared in Gods of Egypt 2016 and in 2021 she was part of the drama series Yellojackets. Thomas Mann is an American actor that made his debut on Nickelodeon Tv Seris iCarly and appeared in The Middle as Brendan Nichols but he is more known for his roles in the movie Project X 2012, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 2013 and Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. Scott Mescudi better known professionally as Kid Cudi. Mescudi is an American rapper, singer, record producer and actor. Cudi gained fame with his debut mix tape A Kid Named Cudi and after that he was signed to Kanye West’s label Good Music, in his actoral career he has appeared in different movies such as Goodbye World 2013, Need for Speed 2014, Entourage 2015 and Don’t Look Up 2021. Francesca Reale as Casey, she is best known for her role on the Netflix series Haters Back Off and Stranger Things. Gina Rodriguez plays Dr. Akerman. Rodriguez is known for her leading role as Jane Villanueva in the TV series Jane the Virgin, role for which she received a Golden Globe Award in 2015.

Brittany Snow is an American actress and singer and with this movie Parachute is debuting as a director. Snow is a well known established actress that gained fame for her role as Susan Daisy Lemay on the popular television drama series Guiding Light 1998 for which she won a Young Artist Award for Best Young Actress, after that she took the role in the TV Series American Dream 2005 being nominated again for Young Artist Award. The now director has a long list of production where she participate making the must remarkable Pitch Perfect film series 2012 and Hairspray 2007. In the present Brittany Snow with the movie “Parachute” in giving her first steps in the directorial field and want to give with this movie a story of struggle, love, compassion and also let the people know that her inspiration came from her own personal story about her battle with eating disorders and also wants to make the awareness about the importance of mental health. The story of Parachute is the reality of many young people in the world, a woman or man that suffer from different mental health crisis, in the case Riley she has eating disorder, body dysmorphia and an addiction to social media, she is struggling for all that but decided to go to therapy and to a recovery program all in pro of her health. This is going to take the audience to the journey of a Riley that is lost in her own boday and is trying to survive to all the negative she has accepted in her life finding a suppor in a person that is going to be a essential part of her new life, Ethan. The director with this movie is trying to reflect is certain point her own battle with the anorexia and how she gain it. Parachute is a movie that if you as an audicence you come to feel identified could be a way to accept your demons and accept that exist people that can help you and that is always good to accept and search for that help for the benefit of our own good.

Being a movie co-created with Becca Gleason, Britanny Snow is also debuting as an director in this great project. The critics to the film has been very positive marking as a triumph the debut of director Snow, also has acclaimed the performance of the cast, it seems that the chemistry along the filming was just perfect, Courtney Eaton and Thomas Mann just gave an amazing performance with the result of the story of two people that doesn’t supposed to be together but that at the same time are sending a powerful message of self love, acceptance and forgiveness. This new adventure of Britanny Snow was an inspiration for the own personal life eating disorder and want to communicated that life is hard but that we all can see the light at the end of the tunnel. .

A movie that Snow co-create with Becca Gleason with a story that touch sensitive nerves of many people around the world because many pass through other are still fighting with that demon that is eating disorder or depression or the codependency, all those demons and many others can affect our life making difficult to understand our purpose in life and in part that is what the director wants to reflect in this movie her own struggles, a hard battle that at the end we can win. An acclaimed directorial debut, a great cast and a wonderful crew that gave everything to deliver a great movie.
With a reality that lives a lot of people in this moment in the world and also as a person that passed through a mental crisis the director Brittany Snow in her directorial debut is giving to the audience a very sensitive topic that for many is their personal fight but for others is just an excuse to not do what the society demands, in fact mental health do exist and do affect millions of people in the world, it doesn’t means that this movie is going to make people change drastically about the mental health but is going to face theme with the torment those person live every day. An acclaimed director and an acclaimed performance of Courtney Eaton in a role that demand all her strength to show it with respect and empathy. I think that it is a movie that in certain point the audience can watch not only to enjoy the photography but also to enjoy the performances, the direction and to open our mind to a world that many of us don’t want to meet.
