Its just common sense that independent film industry can always use a new perspective on stories that have been told and retold in various ways. “Greedy People,” scheduled for release in August 2024, is bound to bring the audience exactly that, its nothing new to the table its how they develop things through the film. Potsy Ponciroli’s black comedy crime thriller is written by Mike Vukadinovich and it involves a small island community which turns into a crime spree of greed and murder, the first day the first rule gets broken "do not kill anyone unless its necessary" the moment you hear that line it will crack you up. The movie features a great cast with Joseph Gordon Levitt, Lily James, Himesh Patel, and others, and tells a story about what everyday people would do when they are put in exceptional conditions, I wonder how many people kill someone accidentally and they first thing they do is anything but report the murder, and some try to hide it. It is centered on the events of a horrifying murder and one million dollars found at the same place, which entice the inhabitants of the town to make wrong choices one after another. Once again, the audience is offered a chance to observe the further degradation of the previously quite calm neighborhood and the comic and at the same time terrifying effects of selfishness. This upcoming film just from the trailer makes me want to watch, in fact it is a great trailer, for two and a half minutes you get bombarded with comedy, not sure why its not so popular within IMDB search.

The Domino Effect of Greed

With the word going around that murder has occurred and there is a lot of money involved, the people of the town make one wrong decision after another, its not a rumor its a fact that some one has been killed but then the buzz is who did it and if it was for money, all kind of theories are brought to the table. What could have been a perfect life becomes a living nightmare as soon as selfishness sets in and compromises people. The film describe these characters and their experiences in the struggle of the new phase of their lives and the ethical issues they face, but been honest I doubt we will see anything ethic consider that during the movie will be a lot of dark humor, this is not a comedy for children to be allow to watch..

Exploring Human Nature

Tehe film explores the most primal instincts in people, that is freedom and survival at all cost, no body is going to let them get caught because of someone else doing just because you were there too but had nothing to do with it. It raises issues concerning the extent to which individuals are willing to exploit the green back and the consequences of eradicating social bonds, this happens the moment they find the money, all ethic and social rules go out the window right there not only because they hiding a murder but also stealing. The entire situation increases the tension as characters are confined with their decisions and each other in the island with no where to go without risking to be consider suspects. Source

Cast and Characters

The cast of the film is simply brilliant and each actor contributes his or her skills to the movie, with Joseph Gordon Levitt and Lily James are the pack leaders as both actors have experience in comedy and drama films, very recently Gordon did a fantastic job a Axel F, the Netflix release coincidence it was in a comedy role. The supporting characters are played by Tim Blake Nelson, an actor who has worked with the Coen Brothers before and Himesh Patel popular for "Yesterday".

As I mention on the introduction this is not a movie that you have to jump in and expect anything new or disruptive, same goes with the list of the primary actors and actresses since we have seen most of them perform in the past, it gives a clear implication of diversified character personalities, beginning with the comedic stereotype Jim Gaffigan to the dramatic portrayal of Uzo Aduba, the film will indeed offer a diverse cast that will add substance to the movie, specially between the two main characters and their as they try to come to terms with the murder and the temptation of the money will no doubt be a key feature of the movie.

Production and Direction

Potsy Ponciroli is the director of this project, with his previous successful Western production "Old Henry". This factor about his talent to work with story development within independent film making is good news for the movie. It would be helpful to note that Ponciroli previously directed music videos and television where you have short time to get the audience attention and keep them glue to the screen, we would expect the same now that he has an entire film length for this.

Filming occurred in Southport, North Carolina between May 9 and June 11 of the year 2022, the decision of the shooting place probably has a great significance for the creation of small town environment, which is so necessary for the plot of the film to generate the necessary impact, create that environment of confinement and suspense. It had some issues that are typical for independent movies after COVID, for example the growth of budgets and shifts in the environment.

Anticipation and Expectations

There a low number of people commenting online about this film but the few are seeing this movie as a success story for independent filmmakers, basically a rough gem.
