Masters of The Air: Brave Bomber Crew of Wolrd War II

A few days I did my monthly post of what I will be watching during the month besides finishing what I didn't on December last year, it was a crazy month and had to take care of things at home plus the shop went a bit crazy too; I think this mini series is going to be one of those small gems of 2024, the mini series carry nine episodes and will premier on Apple+ on January, 26, its based on the story of the 100th Bomber Crew, American Bombers during World War II, one of the things that caught my eye is the production team with names like Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and Gary Goetzman from productions like Band of Brothers highly rated on IMDB with a 9.4, yes its from 2001 but just to mention one of their war theme hits.

This mini series has a very varied cast, in fact some actors have previously worked with Spielberg. Austin Butler, who plays Major Gale 'Buck' Cleven, and will incidentally appear on screen in Dune Part II, was in the Elvis biopic, yeah trying to use some film terms now. Callum Turner, plays Major John Bucky Egan, the performance that I remember most is that of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Anthony Boyle, plays the role of Major Harry Crosby, I cannot ignore his role as the not so popular Malfoy in Harry Potter. Nate Mann plays Major Robert 'Rosie' Rosenthal and Josiah Cross plays Second Lieutenant Robert Daniels, both "new" talent to the screen discovered by Spielberg while working as waiters from what I could found on Google, not much about them on IMDB besides few previous work but not many. Rafferty Law, plays Sergeant Ken Lemmons, is the son of Jude Law and Sadie Frost, and has acted in Twist and The Hatton Garden Job. Barry Keoghan, Lieutenant Curtis Biddick, is an Irish actor who became known for his role in the movie Dunkirk and I have seen him in the Marvel movie Eternals. Branden Cook, plays Sergeant James Gibson, is a British actor, at this moment I do not associate him with any film or series other than Chicago P.D and thats because my mom watch random episodes on TV so I knew I have seen him some where, and finally Ncuti Gatwa, who plays Lieutenant Francis Harper, is a Scottish Rwandan actor and has gained fame for his role in the series Sex Education and very recently Barbie. With all this in mind not need to say that its a very well mix talented cast, I took the time to look up some of the main cast since some of the profiles didn't look familiar to me, its time I start learning and remembering this actors to improve my writing skills.

The Story is based on the book by Donald L. Miller, by the way I have decided to take some interest on some of this stories, I just want to be part of it, it's always the same adaptations that I know nothing about and when I publish my Dune post seems there is a lot of people who have read the books so this time I'm going to read at least one of this novels/books don't haven't decide witch one but I will probably make a post about it; Donald L. Miller a historian who has written several books about World War II so this men has solid bases about the topic, it is a true story and the most important part for me on this stories is not necesary the action but what goes on with the characters at a personal level, each person handles everything what goes on a war different, some are brave and fight, some can't handle it, they will have personal stories, challenges, even moral dilemas because they will have to do some bad things to survive, psychological traumas are born and latter on the emotional side of things, the flashbacks that never go away, the story of young men who carried dangerous bombing raids over the Nazi Germany, most of Europe territory occupied, dealing with the lack of oxygen and freezing temps at the high altitude, over 25,000 feet above ground, just trying to paint a picture here.

For a mini series it has a good amount of episodes but at first I couldn't find out more information about each episodes, if you go to IMDB plots are empty for now so after a quick look up on the internetz found that each episode goes about air bases where the 100th Bomb Group was parked or operating, mostly air bases in England. Thurleigh, Thorpe Abbotts, Polbrook, some other episodes related to events that happen Shweinfurt as Part Three, this was a German city target of several bombing raids, Ragensburg as Part Four, another German city that was attacked a very famous mission, Big Week as Part Seven that was a series of attacks on German aircraft factory so there will be a fair chair of action on this series, I can only imagine a fight scene in the air, POV with VR.

In my opinion this mini series is setting up to be awesome from what I have found out so far, the cast has a few names that are not well known but that is also something I like very much, I like the underdog side, see very well crafted series that bring to the spotlight not necessary new talent but make them shine, this is a mini series and not a movie so I won't be expecting constant action on every single episode but there is a chance there will be since most episodes are about some of the missions they did, the side story of each main character is going to be an important factor so I do expect some drama, probably love story of the members who left behind wifes and girlfriends to go to war, family, kids, as I mention a gem of 2024, down the line there will be others too, the closer we get to the release date they might put out some more scenes, down below the trailer at the moment of this post.
