In Hollywood where everyone looks like they are in paradise, a new movie thrills promises to reveal what is behind the glamorous beauty industry. The film titled ‘Skincare,’ to be released in August 2024, will not just be another movie depicting the desire for flawless beauty. It’s the tale of a woman who finds herself immersed in the very competitive sphere of aesthetics and when success is as impermanent as a trend. The movie is based on Hope Goldman, a well known facialist who is near to establishing her line of beauty products, the dreams of a growing business empire are cut short when a competitor sets up a business just across the street. The ensuing narrative of the movie is about some serious attempts at sabotaging and cyber war, along with an individual’s panicky search for the truth of what is real and what is not, everything that starts happening to Hope Goldman. The Suspense Unleash

Hope Goldman, the character that is depicted by Elizabeth Banks, is at the peak of her career in Los Angeles as a facialist, she is a successful business woman, has regular customers and intends to start her own line of skin care products, things begin to go wrong when Angel Vergara played by Luis Gerardo Mendez, sets up a shop of his own directly opposite her studio.

It appears that they have a business competition like many other companies have, events spiral out of control when Hope is involved in a nasty cyber attack with fake messages and compromising photos are created and shared online, not only the business is in danger but her personal life as well. Hope Goldman played by Anna Kendrick, does not give up and decides to find the real cause with the help of her friend Jordan, played by Lewis Pullman. They both dive down in a situation of mistrust and fear, the idea of victim and perpetrator seems to fade away because the characters are pushing that line further. Hope starts doubting all the people around her and her own actions too. The story develops in Los Angeles, the city that is portrayed as obsessed with the concept of beauty and the outer shell, a cliche in the world of Hollywood.

Making Skincare 2024

Leading the “Skincare” set is director Austin Peters who is new to feature length thrillers. Peters has taken to this film with a different view from the usual Hollywood film director especially with his experience in making music videos and documentaries. Peters also played the role of a director, but also contributed to writing the scenario together with Sam Freilich and Deering Regan, such collaboration means that there can be more layers to the story and might help expose the world inside of the beauty industry in all its shades of grey.

Among the production team there is some well known personalities, Jonathan Schwartz and Logan Lerman both act as producers of the film and they possess great experience. The film is produced by Iervolino & Lady Bacardi Entertainment, of which company CEO Iervolino enthusiastically commented that the project had a "good visual concept and massive appeal".

The Well Balance Cast

Elizabeth Banks takes the lead in the movie playing the role of Hope Goldman, a talented comedian and an actress, Banks adds complexity to the portrayal of a woman trying to save her life’s achievement. This is not the first time that Banks has tried her hands at thrillers though viewers expect to see the versatility of the actress from laughs, tears and rage during the movie.

Jordan is Hope’s friend and accomplice in the investigation, played by Lewis Pullman. Pullman, who has been praised by his performances in "Top Gun: Maverick” and “Catch-22,” is expected to provide that intensity to this supporting role.

Other actors include Michaela Jae Rodriguez from the hit show "Pose". She hasn’t been confirmed for any character in film but for some reason she does appear on the film profile page on most popular movie review sites, I wonder if this a surprise tactic from production.

Nathan Fillion is also in the cast, although the exact character is not clear at the moment; this is the first time that he and Elizabeth Banks will work together since "Slither" in 2006.

It is unclear as why some of this actors have not been assign a role on the public information of the movie, the overall cast is well recognize and during the trailer I did got that vibe of suspense, drama and impotence from the main character.

Themes and Social Media

However, it can be seen that Skincare is mainly a thriller, but the film’s makers tried to reveal certain message to the audience. The plot can be viewed as a satire on the modern culture’s glamour and the measures individuals are willing to take to uphold appearances. The billion dollar beauty industry is sold to the public as a way to self improvement and female liberation, the film is set to strip back this sheen, to expose the generally ruthless and machiavellian methods employed to sell things and get people to part with their money. It also speaks about the effects of social networks and the concept of an online image, as we know in the present time one wrong post can lead to the downfall of a person’s career, the film turns into a perfect example on the fragility of ones public persona and how in a click of a button, it can be ruined.
This film can be seen as a strong and promising example of how it is possible to experiment with genres and address social issues in today’s society using elements of entertainment. The film is not only going to be a thriller but a revelation to society that seems to be worshiping beauty and does not see the hidden price people pay to look perfect. Thanks to the cast, the director, and the themes, “Skincare” will most likely provoke discussions long after the film is over it been based on such controversial industry, its all about the looks. The movie provokes the audience to think critically and reflect on the modern perception of beauty. This is not the type of movie I would be looking every day but touching on such controversial drama situation added with some rage and action makes it very entertaining to me, it all cant be shooting, fighting and space movies, from time to time I do love a good drama to keep me entertain and this movie does look like it will deliver, already with a lot of popularity within websites like IMDB.
