The Signal (2024) : Sci-Fi Drama with a bit of Interstellar in it?

Paula’s is an astronaut that expend several months in the International Space Station (ISS) but now she is returning to earth, now on earth she is only a short flight to return with her family, in the other side of the world is her family waiting for her but Paula’s never make it home, it is like the plane has vanished from the face of the earth, since that moment her husband Sven will start a carrier to find out what happen with his wife trying not to lose hope in the process and also protecting his daughter Charlie, Sven found a riddle that his wife Paula left him to follow, thing that he start doing discovering in the process that the riddle seems to become deeper and the threat for him, his daughter and the whole world is even more bigger of what humanity can face. During the time that Paula’s expend in the ISS she made a huge discovery and now his family is lead by her to found out the truth.

The Signal is a German mini series that will premiered at Netflix on March 7, 2024, a story written by Florian David Fitz that also portrays Sven, Paula’s husband and directed by Sebastian Hilger and Philipp Leinemann. Is a story that will guide Paula’s family into a riddle that will show them that what she discover in space is something unthinkable, a story of suspense and mystery that only the end can give us the answer.

Sebastian Hilger is a german director with a prominent career in the German film industry, his notable works include science fiction and mystery films such as Ayuda 2007, Wir sind die Flut 2015 and Tim Schroder und das Ende aller Tage 2013, Hilger style involves authentic performances, psychological twist and a strong narrative. The director also has a podcast named Are the kids asleep?, a space were he analyze actual movies and TV Series.

The production of The Signal will show to the world the talent of German cinema with a great narrative writen by Sebastian Higler, Florian David Fitz, Nadine Gottmann and Kim Zimmermann and with the direction of Higler and Philip Leineman the series will try to evolved the audience through a story of odd moments, unexpected situations and a journey that Paula and Sven will follow to show that is important the search of the truth and fight for the people we love.

The filming process start on December 29, 2022 and ended on May 12, 2023 , the filming to this story was smooth and without complications. The production of The Signal has work hard to bring a unique story with a plot twist that will guide the audience into a journey of suspense, the story was classified as a miniseries since it is only four episodes and will wait for the audience reception to confirm if a second season is possible, this also could be realized in a future due to the open ending.

The cast of The Signal includes Peri Baumeister a German actress known for her roles in The Last Kingdom, Skylines and the Netflix film Blood Red Sky. She portrays Paula a versatile actress adept at tackling complex roles. Yuna Bennett plays Charlie, Sara’s daughter. Bennett has previously appeared in Dear Thomas and Der Buchspazierer a German comedy. Florian David Fitz portrays Sven, Sara’s husband, recognized for his work in Jesus Loves Me, The Most Beautiful Day and 100 Things. He possesses the ability to seamlessly transition between comedic and dramatic roles. Katharina Schüttler takes on the role of Nora, boasting a solid track record in television and film including The Promise and Generation War.

This is a story that I am 100% sure I will watch, thanks that there is a good premise about something found in space, that the person that discovered it disappeared and that she only gave that information to her husband as a riddle to found out the true all that caught me and has intrigued to found out what is that thing that she found and could be a good German adventure as Dark that is one of my favorites series. Hope this one fulfilled my expectations and give the same feeling of joy that Dark gave me at the moment.

After watching the trailer and looking up information about The Signal online I still cant stop having flash backs of Interstellar, there is just something from the trailer, Sven going through the corn field, their kid who thinks her mother doesn't like staying at Earth all because she is constantly pursuing her work more than anything and then this idea of something that is coming to earth and was only discover by Paula’s when she was living in the International Space Station and vanishing at the moment she planned to return home. The Signal will show the journey of a husband and father that will try to recover his wife and protect his daughter at the same time while is deciphering the truth that his wife discover on space.
