Mike y Marcus han llevado toda una vida de héroes policiales en Miami. No soy muy fan de la saga de Bad Boys, no obstante, por alguna razón el destino me ha llevado a ver, sin yo quererlo, cada una de las películas de esta saga. Es curioso que de alguna forma termine viendo a ese dúo de policías un tanto solemnes y un tanto estúpidos, que tienen, además, más vidas que un gato. Soy algo escéptico con los largometrajes de acción demasiado embusteros: explosiones y volteretas milagrosas y villanos demasiado malos y secuestradores...

Tanta locura junta termina gustando, sobre todo si eres un amante de la adrenalina cinéfila. Bad Boys sabe como mantenerte entretenido, incluso cuando eres obligado a ver la película. Hay carros explotando, saltos milagrosos en helicópteros, y una relación de padre e hijo que intenta sanar a punta de balazos.

I'm not a big fan of the Bad Boys saga, however, for some reason fate has led me to see, without me wanting to, each of the films in this saga. It's funny that somehow I end up watching this duo of somewhat solemn and somewhat stupid cops, who also have more lives than a cat. I'm a bit skeptical of action films that are too much of a joke: explosions and miraculous somersaults and villains who are too evil and kidnappers....

So much craziness together ends up pleasing, especially if you're an adrenaline-loving cinephile. Bad Boys knows how to keep you entertained, even when you're forced to watch the movie. There are exploding cars, miraculous jumps in helicopters, and a father-son relationship that tries to heal at the point of bullets.

La película dura 115 minutos, suficiente tiempo como para que Will Smith y Martin Lawrence te hagan reír. La comedia se limita a los chistes, aun en las situaciones más explosivas. Para esta ocasión, Eric Dane entra en el juego de los policías malos y duros de matar. No es el tipo de villano que sorprende, pero al menos sabe como joder las cosas para los protagonistas. Algunos personajes de las anteriores entregas reaparecen, entre estos, Jacob Scipio, quien interpreta al hijo de Will Smith.

Entre algunas cosas que no fueron de mi agrado, está la sobreexposición de los elementos que deberían sorprendernos. Desde los primeros minutos, si sabes deducir, te encuentras con el infiltrado en la policía. Aunque la película busca hacerte dudar, la presentación de los enemigos es lineal y no pasa la franja del "no me lo esperé". Creo que el personaje de James interpretado por Dane pudo aprovecharse mejor... con respecto a esto, el final de la película no me gustó tanto.

The film is 115 minutes long, long enough for Will Smith and Martin Lawrence to make you laugh. The comedy is limited to the jokes, even in the most explosive situations. For this one, Eric Dane enters the game of bad, hard-boiled cops. He's not the kind of villain that surprises, but at least he knows how to screw things up for the protagonists. Some characters from the previous installments reappear, including Jacob Scipio, who plays Will Smith's son.

Among some things that were not to my liking, is the overexposure of the elements that should surprise us. From the first few minutes, if you know how to deduce, you meet the police infiltrator. Although the film seeks to make you doubt, the presentation of the enemies is linear and doesn't pass the "I didn't expect it" fringe. I think the character of James played by Dane could have been put to better use...on that note, I didn't like the ending of the film as much.

Ahora bien, no esperé esos guiños a la cultura sobrenatural: como especie de déjà vu. Por alguna razón, los personajes pueden explorar más sus miedos, sobre todo los devenidos de la muerte y la pérdida. Esto te lleva a suponer que las cosas no terminarán del todo bien, pero en la medida que transcurre la película, las cosas terminan aligerándose. Tal vez ese efecto le quitó fuerza a la historia. Y es que, te haces tantas expectativas que, de alguna manera, te terminas decepcionando.

Finalmente, otro de los pilares de Bad Boys "Ride or Die" es la redención, sobre todo en la relación padre e hijo que tienen los personajes de Mike y Armando. La transmutación de villano a héroe, y viceversa, será bastante visible.

Now, I didn't expect those nods to supernatural culture: as a sort of déjà vu. For some reason, the characters are able to explore more of their fears, especially those stemming from death and loss. This leads you to assume that things will not end well, but as the film goes on, things end up getting lighter. Perhaps that effect took away from the strength of the story. And the thing is, you get so many expectations that, somehow, you end up being disappointed.

Finally, another of the pillars of Bad Boys "Ride or Die" is redemption, especially in the father and son relationship between the characters of Mike and Armando. The transmutation from villain to hero, and vice versa, will be quite visible.

Bad Boys "Ride or Die" ha sorteado, al menos por ahora, la dura lista de las secuelas que terminan siendo un fracaso. Esto, tal vez, gracias a la fidelidad que le brindan al público hambriento de explosiones o balazos. Ojalá este sea el cierre de la saga, pues todos sabemos qué pasa cuando siguen estirando una saga a cambio de dinero. El caso de Fast & Furious llega a mi mente ahora mismo...

Espero que Bad Boys no cruce esa delgada línea.

Bad Boys "Ride or Die" has avoided, at least for now, the hard list of sequels that end up being a failure. This, perhaps, thanks to the loyalty they offer to the audience hungry for explosions or bullets. Hopefully this is the closure of the saga, because we all know what happens when they keep stretching a saga in exchange for money. The case of Fast & Furious comes to my mind right now....

I hope Bad Boys doesn't cross that thin line.
