Sweet Tooth: El Niño Ciervo | Review

I remember very well when the first season of Sweet Tooth came out, my nephew Alejandro was very intense about watching it. In the RRSS they said it was not a series for kids, so I didn't let him watch it and I didn't know anything more about the series until the second season came out. Someone told me it was something Ale could watch, so we decided to watch it. Two two-day marathons to watch it in its entirety took Ale and I. It was back and forth. It was back-to-back. Did we like it? I'll let you know.

Recuerdo muy bien cuando salió la primera temporada de Sweet Tooth, mi sobrino Alejandro estaba muy intenso por verlo. En las RRSS decían que no era una serie para niños, así que no deje que lo viera y ya no supe más nada de la serie hasta que salió la segunda temporada. Alguien me dijo que era algo que Ale podría ver, así que decidimos verla. Dos maratones de dos días para verla completa nos echamos Ale y yo. Era una tras otra. ¿Nos gustó? Ya les contaré.

Imagine a dystopian future in which the human race is threatened to the brink of extinction and the children who begin to be born have an impressive feature: they are half human, half animal. They call them: the hybrids, and for a change, believing that they are the cause of the virus that almost disappeared, they begin to hunt them. No one is safe, the first men hunt them down. Among these children is Gus, a 10-year-old boy, half boy half deer, and our Sweet Tooth, Gus grew up far from the population isolated from the rest of the world, and sets out on a journey in search of the mother he never knew.

Along the way, he meets more people, including Jepp, who becomes his great protector. Bear, is a tough teenager who commands the animal army (all teenagers, none of them hybrids), who battle to protect the hybrids. At the same time, there are stories going on that are important for the plot. Like that of Dr. Aditya, who seeks a cure for the virus to save his wife. And Eileen takes over a zoo where she lives with Wendy, who is half girl, half pig, and they begin to receive hybrids to put them under their care. The lives of all these characters have a separate development in the first season to converge in the second.

Imagínense un futuro distópico en el que la raza humana se ve amenazada al borde de la extinción y los niños que empiezan a nacer tienen un rasgo impresionante: son mitad humanos, mitad animal. Los llaman: los híbridos, y para variar, al creer que son los causantes del virus que casi desaparece, empiezan a cazarlos. Nadie está a salvo, los primeros hombres los cazan. Entre estos niños está Gus, un niño de 10 años, mitad niño mitad ciervo y nuestro Sweet Tooth, Gus creció lejos de la población aislado del resto del mundo y emprende un viaje en búsqueda de la madre que nunca conoció.

En el camino conoce a más gente, Jepp, quién se hace su gran protector. A Bear, una adolescente muy rudo que comanda al ejército animal (todos adolescentes, ninguno es un híbrido), quiénes batallan para proteger a los híbridos. Paralelamente hay historias transcurriendo que son importantes para la trama. Cómo la del doctor Aditya, quién busca la cura del virus para salvar a su esposa. Y la de Eileen, quién toma un Zoológico en el que vive con Wendy, quien es mitad niña, mitad cerdita, y empiezan a recibir híbridos para ponerlos bajo su resguardo. Las vidas de todos estos personajes tienen un desarrollo por separado en la primera temporada para converger en la segunda.

Gus is a charming boy, he is played by the young actor Christian Convery, he is very convincing in his role and I assure you that you will love him. I would like to think that we will continue to see him, but we know what the future is for many child actors and I hope this is not the case because he is a very good actor.

I loved that a lot of the kids, being half animals, don't have vocal cords and therefore can't speak. So they communicate through sign language. The intrinsic message is one of tolerance, eliminating an entire race out of fear of the unknown, just because they are different, and learning that they are living beings, that they are children, they have feelings, they know how to love, they can communicate, they do childish things, and they are in constant danger. And they are also animals, we talk in this case of ecology, of species in extinction, which have been hunted to decorate walls and rooms, or are in zoos to be appreciated. It is incredible the impact that human beings cause on the planet, all that we have destroyed, and the amount of garbage we generate. We observe all these factors as the series progresses.

Gus es un niño encantador, está interpretado por el joven actor Christian Convery, es muy convincente con su papel y les aseguro que lo amarán. Me gustaría pensar que lo seguiremos viendo, pero sabemos cuál es el futuro de muchos niños actores y espero que este no sea su caso porque es muy buen actor.

Amé que muchos de los niños, al ser mitad animales, no tengan cuerdas vocales y por ende, no pueden hablar. Así que se comunican a través del lenguaje de señas. El mensaje intrínseco es el de la tolerancia, eliminar a una raza completa por miedo a lo desconocido, solo porque son diferentes y aprender que son seres vivos, que son niños, tienen sentimientos, saben amar, se pueden comunicar, hacen cosas de niños, y están en constante peligro. Y también son animales, hablamos en este caso de la ecología, de las especies en extinción, a las que han cazado para adornar paredes, salas, o están en Zoológico para ser apreciados. Es increíble el impacto que causan los seres humanos al planeta, todo lo que hemos destruido, la cantidad de basura que generamos. Todos estos factores los vamos observando a medida que va avanzando la serie.

This, like all dystopias, always seeks to leave a message of what would happen if, and we who have lived through a pandemic can identify with some things and how we live them. Just as the search for the cure will always be intense. It's not an amazing series, but it's very good. I loved it, and although it has violent scenes, you can watch it as a family under parental discretion. The only bad thing is that the next season is in 2025 and already Gus will be quite big, he is currently 13 years old and in two years a teenager can change a lot. We'll see.

Esta, como todas las distopías, siempre buscan dejar un mensaje de qué pasaría sí, y nosotros que hemos vivido una pandemia, podemos vernos identificados en algunas cosas y como las vivimos. Al igual que la búsqueda de la cura siempre será intensa. No es una serie increíble, pero es muy buena. Me encantó, y aunque tiene escenas violentas, pueden verla en familia bajo la discreción de los padres. Lo único malo es que la próxima temporada es en el 2025 y ya Gus estará bastante grande, actualmente tiene 13 años y en dos años un adolescente puede cambiar mucho. Ya veremos.
