Hace algunos meses leí una reseña en esta comunidad sobre Pearl y quedé fascinada por la descripción de la historia, pero no recuerdo quien fue el autor, hoy agradezco haber coincidido con ese post, ya que me dio la motivación para verla o de lo contrario hubiese pasado desapercibida porque su póster no me llama la atención y su género principal el terror tampoco.

Pearl es una joven de padres alemanes emigrantes en los Estados Unidos, que pasa sus días trabajando en la granja familiar además de cuidar a su padre que está postrado en estado vegetal en una silla de ruedas, pasa su tiempo soñando en ser una bailarina famosa, juega con los vestidos de su madre y se obsesiona con eso, su mayor deseo es salir de esa granja, pero su madre interrumpe su utopía y la trae a la realidad de forma brusca y autoritaria.

Some months ago I read a review in this community about Pearl and I was fascinated by the description of the story, but I do not remember who the author was, today I am grateful to have coincided with that post, as it gave me the motivation to see it or else it would have gone unnoticed because its poster does not call my attention and its main genre is not horror either.

Pearl is a young girl of German emigrant parents in the United States, who spends her days working on the family farm in addition to caring for her father who is bedridden in a wheelchair, she spends her time dreaming of being a famous dancer, she plays with her mother's dresses and becomes obsessed with it, her greatest desire is to get out of that farm, but her mother interrupts her utopia and brings her to reality in an abrupt and authoritarian way.

Aunque Pearl está casada, sigue siendo una niña con un deseo ferviente de ser famosa, extraña a su esposo que se fue a la guerra y no se sabe si puede regresar. Toda esta historia está ambientada en los años 1919 e inicia con un toque romántico que confunde al espectador alejándose del género principal que es el terror.

Cada cierto tiempo Pearl debe ir a la ciudad a comprar medicina para su papá, que es morfina y ella aprovecha para tomar unos tragos 🤭😆 además de ir al cine a mirar las películas que la hacen entrar en su fantasía, allí conoce a un joven proyeccionista, el encargado del cine quien la invita a mirar las películas que desee gratis, por lo que decide escaparse en las noches y vivir una aventura con este joven.

Although Pearl is married, she is still a child with a fervent desire to be famous, she misses her husband who left for the war and it is not known if he can return. All this story is set in 1919 and begins with a romantic touch that confuses the viewer away from the main genre which is horror.

Every so often Pearl must go to the city to buy medicine for her dad, which is morphine and she takes the opportunity to have a few drinks 🤭😆 besides going to the cinema to watch movies that make her enter her fantasy, there she meets a young projectionist, the manager of the cinema who invites her to watch the movies she wants for free, so she decides to escape in the evenings and live an adventure with this young man.

El personaje de Pearl es lo que hace interesante esta película, lo bien desarrollado del papel y la actuación de la actriz (Mia Goth) es impresionante, al principio se percibe como una mujer adulta con un comportamiento infantil e inocente y que en realidad a mis ojos nunca deja de ser así, a pesar de ser la ASESINA SERIAL y la que causa todo el horror en la película, mientras cuida a los animales de la granja da señales de su desequilibrio mental, al matar algunos de esos animales y no me refiero a gallinas, cerdos y otros para alimentarse, matar en el sentido de sentir placer y sadismo con el hecho.

Está comprobado que los primeros signos de asesinos seriales son aquellos que satisfacen la necesidad de matar con animales pequeños para empezar. Volviendo a Pearl y aunque soy amante de los animales sentí empatía por esa pobre mujer, tal vez hacía eso para liberar la frustración de su vida real donde ni siquiera se le permitía soñar, me identifique tanto con la vida de este personaje que por un rato me preocupe por mí misma 😱🥹, ver a Pearl cuidar de su padre y aguantar a su madre tras el trabajo duro de una granja no es fácil y me identificó porque cuido a varias personas como ella, los amo así como Pearl amaba a sus padres, pero a veces quiero salir corriendo de este lugar como ella, lo bueno es que yo me doy mis escapadas a la playa de vez en cuando y Pearl no. 😜

The character of Pearl is what makes this movie interesting, the well developed role and the performance of the actress (Mia Goth) is impressive, at the beginning she is perceived as an adult woman with a childish and innocent behavior and that actually in my eyes never ceases to be so, despite being the SERIAL KILLER and the one who causes all the horror in the film, while caring for the animals on the farm gives signs of her mental imbalance, by killing some of these animals and I do not mean chickens, pigs and others to feed, kill in the sense of feeling pleasure and sadism with the fact.

It has been proven that the first signs of serial killers are those who satisfy the need to kill with small animals to begin with. Going back to Pearl and even though I am an animal lover I felt empathy for that poor woman, maybe she was doing that to release the frustration of her real life where she was not even allowed to dream, I identified so much with this character's life that for a while I worried about myself 😱🥹, watching Pearl take care of her father and put up with her mother after the hard work of a farm is not easy and I identified because I take care of several people like her, I love them as well as Pearl loved her parents, but sometimes I want to run away from this place like her, the good thing is that I get my getaways to the beach from time to time and Pearl does not. 😜

Hay una línea muy delgada entre la salud mental y la locura, pero también hay señales que a tiempo se pueden atender. La madre de Pearl sabía que su hija no estaba bien, pero la necesitaba y su error fue presionar tanto hasta que ella explotó. Una escena que separa mi empatía de Pearl fue cuando se bañaba en frente de su padre. Ahí sí dije, está bien chiflada, pero seguí sintiendo la desesperación de esta joven cuando quería asistir a una audición de baile que era su única oportunidad y su madre no se lo permitió.

Es allí cuando surge todo el infierno dentro de Pearl, ella sabe que algo no está bien con ella, se siente diferente, no tiene remordimientos de sus acciones, solo quiere lograr sus objetivos y vencer los obstáculos, pero tiene miedo de la soledad y del abandono, se siente sola y no quiere seguir viviendo así.

Los hechos surgen de una manera tan natural que parece que está bien, pues ella actúa seguida de sus instintos, pero siempre está clara que ama a sus padres solo que primero se tiene que amarse a ella misma, para esa época esto puede sonar egoísta, pero es un discurso común en la actualidad, incluso yo misma lo he dicho varias veces.

There is a fine line between mental health and insanity, but there are also signs that in time can be addressed. Pearl's mother knew her daughter was not well, but she needed her and her mistake was to push so hard until she exploded. One scene that separates my empathy from Pearl was when she was taking a bath in front of her father. That's when I did say, she's a nutcase, but I kept feeling the desperation of this young girl when she wanted to attend a dance audition that was her only chance and her mother wouldn't let her.

That's when all hell breaks loose inside Pearl, she knows something is not right with her, she feels different, she has no remorse for her actions, she just wants to achieve her goals and overcome obstacles, but she is afraid of loneliness and abandonment, she feels alone and doesn't want to continue living like that.

The facts arise in such a natural way that it seems to be right, because she acts following her instincts, but she is always clear that she loves her parents but she has to love herself first, for that time this may sound selfish, but it is a common discourse nowadays, even I have said it myself several times.

Hubo momentos de silencios solo para que el espectador detalla los gestos de Pearl, en uno de ellos se me puso la piel de gallina. Yo pude conocer a Pearl y sé que fue lo que le pasó, por años albergó sentimientos de envidia hacia las personas de lucro, la ambición la llevó a contraer un matrimonio con la esperanza de cambiar su vida cosa que se truncó, era desagradecida por las cosas que sí tenía como el alimento, el techo y la familia, creciendo un rencor hacia su madre que era quien la traía a la realidad, reprimió sus sentimientos y no encontró la forma de expresarlos hasta que ya no pudo con ellos, desatando una ira incontrolable.

Estos y otros malos sentimientos hicieron de la dulce Pearl el peor de los monstruos, un ejemplo que podemos encontrar a través de la ficción para reflexionar. Esta es una película que volvería a ver por lo fascinante del desarrollo del personaje, no creo que la olvide.

Tiene una hermosa fotografía, y no es la típica historia de terror que te asusta desde el inicio, al final es donde aparecen las escenas de sangre, amé el estrés psicológico. La recomiendo y si ya la viste o deseas verla, me gustaría saber tu opinión. Te espero en los comentarios.

There were moments of silences just for the viewer to detail Pearl's gestures, in one of them I got goosebumps. I got to know Pearl and I know what happened to her, for years she harbored feelings of envy towards people of profit, ambition led her to enter into a marriage with the hope of changing her life which was cut short, she was ungrateful for the things she did have like food, shelter and family, growing a grudge towards her mother who was the one who brought her to reality, she repressed her feelings and found no way to express them until she could no longer handle them, unleashing uncontrollable rage.

These and other bad feelings made sweet Pearl the worst of monsters, an example we can find through fiction to reflect on. This is a movie I would watch again because of the fascinating character development, I don't think I will forget it.

It has a beautiful photography, and it is not the typical horror story that scares you from the beginning, at the end is where the blood scenes appear, I loved the psychological stress.
