The Exorcist

A famous actress turns to doctors when her daughter begins exhibiting inexplicable symptoms. The doctors throw up their hands, unable to explain the phenomenon. She soon realizes there’s a serious possibility that her daughter is possessed and seeks the help of a priest.

To me, this is a masterpiece and encapsulates everything, I think. It was released in 1973 and even today remains the best exorcism movie ever made. The atmosphere is gripping and terrifying, with outstanding performances from the entire cast—especially from the young girl, Linda Blair.

It has something otherworldly about it, yet at the same time something so realistic that it personally scared me. It clearly establishes Catholicism from the very beginning, which, in the hands of the demon, becomes a toy. Even though it sticks to that theme, it also has a deeply human character, which I believe Ellen Burstyn portrays brilliantly in the role of the mother.
Great script, iconic scenes that are still praised (and even parodied—sometimes effectively, like in Scary Movie).
The music, of course, is etched into cinematic history. It has those repulsive images, yet at the same time an irresistible charm—which is one of the reasons it’s what we call a “must-see” movie, especially if you want to call yourself a cinephile.
The ending was exactly what I was hoping for, and it’s a real shame that its sequels didn’t live up to the original—not a single one came even close.

Popeye The Slayer Man

A group of friends sneaks into an abandoned spinach canning factory to investigate the legend of “The Sailor,” who is said to haunt the factory and the nearby docks. Honestly, what other nonsense are they going to come up with?!

🟢🟢🟢🟢

  • Not a single positive thing to say.

🔴🔴🔴🔴

  • Performances are laughable—and not in a good way.
  • D-list direction.
  • Obviously not scary at all.
  • The script is minimal to non-existent—hastily written with zero narrative coherence.
  • Visually ridiculous Popeye—even if the movie was made as a troll.
  • The ending is laughable.
  • There's plenty of blood, but it’s purely for shock value.

Totally agree on the exorcist. There is something still chillingly scary about it to this day thanks to the direction!

Only a handful of movies can stay relevant and still achieve their goal after 50+ years after their release.
