Extraordinary: Superheroes with a comedy twist
The world is a little overloaded with superheroes these days. Marvel have loads of movies and TV shows plus other franchises are cashing in. I can enjoy those, but I like some light comedy too. I had heard about Extraordinary with good reviews and it was available here in the UK on Disney+, so we gave it a go.
The writer and some of the cast are Irish, but it is set in London where the world is similar to ours except for everyone acquiring some sort of superpower when they are eighteen. Well not quite everyone. Lead character Jen is 25 and still does not have a power. She has other issues with finding a job and love. Some people can fly or move very fast whilst other powers are very random such as a guy who can 3d print from his bottom or a girl who is randomly magnetic.
I knew a few of the cast, but it is the younger ones who play the biggest part. The main other ones are Jen's flatmates Kash and Carrie (see what they did there?) plus a guy who spent a lot of time as a cat.
I will not reveal too much of the plot, but we really enjoyed it. The second season has just been released, so we could watch both lots. It looks like it could continue.
The humour is pretty broad with lots of visual gags. You may spot various odd things in the background and should look out for comical signs. The music is fun too.
Season two continues the quest for Jen's power. Some characters seem to have dropped out, but there are new ones. We just finished the last episode today and want more.
Apart from that I am watching the final season of Star Wars spin-off The Bad Batch (also on Disney+). It is nothing too deep, but I want to see how it plays out. I want to watch 3 Body Problem on Netflix as I have read the book. I am hearing good things about it. At some point I will get back to Game of Thrones as I have seven series on DVD to work through.
Happy viewing!
Is the @cinetv site down? I was going to use it to post, but it is not working for me.
Extraordinary is pretty good, it's a cleaver twist, it's sort of like a contrast to The Boys
I've not seen The Boys, but I hear it's good.
First season of The Boys might be good but then it takes a different path it seems. Reminds me of West World and even Game of Thrones which also went down a different path
As you describe it seems very funny I'll look for it to see it greetings.
I saw commercials for this and I thought it looked interesting. You should also check out The Gentlemen on Netflix my wife and I are halfway through the first season.
I may have a look at that. There's a few things in the queue for now.
It's a bit raw. It's done by Guy Ritchie, so if you know his style, that might give you an idea.
