Hello to all movie lovers! A few years ago, I saw a movie based on the popular board game Clue, which recounted the cliché scenario of a group of people gathered in one place, until suddenly, a murder occurs and there are no witnesses, everyone becomes suspicious. In the movie Death on the Nile, about which I am here to talk to you, the same tactic is used, although with more dramatic overtones, since it comes from one of the stories of the famous writer Agatha Christie.

The story revolves around Hercule Poirot, a rather perceptive man and great strategist, who hides a mark on his face under his mustache. That scar, generated by an incident that occurred during the First World War, reminds him that no matter how well a plan was drawn up, unforeseen events are always just around the corner. With the passing of time and thanks to his analytical skills, Poirot will end up doing detective work, where he will be in charge of solving the most intricate mysteries thanks to his sharp mind and instinct, earning himself enormous fame for it.

After solving an important case in Egypt, the man decides to take a well-deserved rest in the Nile, where he hopes to get away from the cases and the ravages of fame. There, he meets Bouc, a young friend who, happy to meet him while in the pyramids, invites Poirot to join him at the Assouan hotel where the wedding feast of one of the most beautiful and powerful heiresses, Linnet Ridgeway, who has just married Simon Doyle, basically a nobody who ended up capturing the heart of what is known as the "golden girl", because of her enormous body fortune. A fortune that is coveted by everyone around her.

The detective accepts the invitation and goes to the hotel where the rest of the guests will meet. Spotting the newlyweds, Poirot remembers that months ago, he had the opportunity to see the couple, coincidentally at the moment they met, being able to witness what seemed to be a curious love triangle that linked Simon, Linette and the one who at that time was his best friend, Miss Jaqueline De Bellefort, who was Simon's partner and as Poirot had noticed, the young people looked quite in love, confirming with that fact the thought of the fragility of love.

At the reception, Bouc takes the opportunity to fill Poirot in on all the details about the newlyweds, as well as the relationships of the other guests. As expected, all this is being filed in the detective's mastermind, although at first, he takes it as simple information without relevance. In the middle of the celebration, Jaqueline, Simon's ex-girlfriend and Linette's old friend, appears, who is not invited to the party. Apparently the young woman, unable to get over the break with Simon, did not hesitate to follow the couple throughout the honeymoon, harassing them. It is then that, taking advantage of the detective's presence, Linette and Simon ask him to help them with Jaqueline's affair, although Poirot is not entirely sure about accepting the job, since no specific crime has been committed. He without knowing that he will end up involved in a series of murders and he must use his cunning to solve them.

It is a quite interesting film, full of unexpected twists and situations in which clues are offered so that the viewer is able to unveil the mystery of the murderer's identity. I admit that it seemed a bit long and slow in its development, but after knowing that it was based on a novel from so long ago, it seems to me that the way in which the events unfold is correct, since the idea is that the reader and the viewer, be able to glimpse or read between the lines, the clues to catch the culprit. When we are used to things being shown without so much waiting, this type of film seems a bit tedious to us. I haven't had a chance to read the book, but the movie is visually quite appealing and elegant. I would like to give it a second chance, but appreciating it as a work that tries to pay homage to one of the most important writers that ever lived, instead of a boastful movie (as I thought at first).

¡Hola a todos los amantes de las películas! Hace unos años atrás, vi una película basada en el popular juego de mesa Clue, la cual relataba el escenario cliché de un grupo de personas reunidas en un lugar, hasta que de pronto, ocurre un asesinato y al no haber testigos, todos se vuelven sospechosos. En la película Muerte en el Nilo, sobre la cual vengo a hablarles, se usa la misma táctica, aunque con tintes más dramáticos, siendo que proviene de uno de los relatos de la célebre escritora Agatha Christie.

La historia gira en torno de Hércules Poirot, un hombre bastante perspicaz y gran estratega, que oculta debajo de su mostacho una marca en el rostro. Aquella cicatriz, generada por un incidente ocurrido durante la primera guerra mundial, le recuerda que por más bien que estuviera elaborado un plan, los acontecimientos imprevistos, siempre están a la vuelta de la esquina. Con el pasar del tiempo y gracias a sus habilidades analíticas, Poirot acabará desempeñando la labor de detective, en donde se encargará de resolver los más intrincados misterios gracias a su aguda mente e instinto, ganándose una enorme fama por ello.

Luego de que resolviera un caso importante en Egipto, el hombre decide tomarse un merecido descanso en el Nilo, en donde espera alejarse de los casos y de los estragos de la fama. Allí, se encuentra con Bouc, un joven amigo que alegre de encontrárselo mientras se hallaba en las pirámides, invita a Poirot a unírsele en el hotel Assouan en donde se realizará el festín de bodas de una de las más hermosas y poderosas herederas, Linnet Ridgeway, quién acaba de contraer nupcias con Simon Doyle, básicamente un don nadie que acabó capturando el corazón de la conocida como la "chica dorada", por lo enorme de su fortuna. Una fortuna que es codiciada por todo aquel que la rodea.

El detective acepta la invitación y acude al hotel en donde se reunirán el resto de los invitados. Al divisar a los recién casados, Poirot recuerda que meses atrás, tuvo la oportunidad de ver a la pareja, casualmente en el momento en que se conocieron, pudiendo ser testigo de lo que parecía ser un curioso triángulo amoroso que vinculaba a Simon, Linette y la que en ese entonces era su mejor amiga, la señorita Jaqueline De Bellefort, quién era la pareja de Simon y según había notado Poirot, los jóvenes se veían bastante enamorados, confirmándose con ese hecho el pensamiento de la fragilidad del amor.

En la recepción, Bouc aprovecha para poner al tanto a Poirot de todos los pormenores sobre los recién casados, así como las relaciones de los otros invitados. Como era de esperarse, todo esto va siendo archivado en la mente maestra del detective, aunque al principio, lo toma como simple información sin relevancia. En medio del festejo, aparece Jaqueline, la ex novia de Simon y antigua amiga de Linette, quien no está invitada al festejo. Al parecer la joven, incapaz de superar la ruptura con Simon, no dudó en seguir a la pareja durante toda la luna de miel, acosándolos. Es entonces cuando, aprovechando la presencia del detective, Linette y Simon le piden que los ayude con el asunto de Jaqueline, aunque Poirot no está del todo seguro de aceptar el trabajo, puesto que no se ha cometido un crimen en concreto. Sin saber que acabará envuelto en una serie de asesinatos y deberá usar su astucia para poder resolverlos.

Es una película bastante interesante, llena de giros inesperados y situaciones en las que se ofrecen pistas para que el espectador, sea capaz de develar el misterio de la identidad del asesino. Admito que me pareció un tanto extensa y lenta en su desarrollo, pero luego de saber que estaba basado en una novela de hace tanto tiempo, me parece que la forma en la que se desarrollan los hechos, es acertado, puesto que la idea es que el lector y el espectador, sea capaz de vislumbrar o leer entre líneas, las pistas para atrapar al culpable. Cuando estamos acostumbrados a que las cosas se muestren sin tanta espera, éste tipo de películas nos llega a parecer un tanto tediosas. No he tenido la oportunidad de leer el libro, pero la película visualmente es bastante atractiva y elegante. Me gustaría darle una segunda oportunidad, pero apreciándola como una obra que trata de hacer oda a una de las más importantes escritoras que ha existido, en lugar de una película jactanciosa (como pensé en un inicio).
