Hello to all members of this community and movie lovers! A while ago I started to get interested in watching movies and series set in AI and robot themes, as that was a recurring theme in the 90s, I watched movies again like A.I. Artificial Intelligence and The Bicentennial Man, which I will tell you about today. I remember that the film was very popular when it was released and it was broadcast ad nauseam on open television channels, not to mention that the actor Robin Williams was in fashion since his career was in full swing and his work was well received by the public.

In the distant future, technology has advanced enough for humans to be able to obtain robots to use in their homes to help with housework and other chores. The Martin family ends up acquiring one of these NDR models, which they end up naming Andrew. At first, the mother and daughters are a little reluctant about the idea of ​​having that robot at home, but the father insists on how positive it will be for everyone to have Andrew living with them. Thus, at first the robot is always willing to follow the orders imposed on it, as that is how it is programmed.

In this way, Andrew gradually gains a place in the Martin family, although he develops a greater bond with Amanda, the youngest daughter, and Richard, the father, who does not hesitate to answer the questions that always end up forming in the robot. Andrew has a great curiosity and not only that, having the ability to learn, he acquires different skills, which makes Richard realize what his true potential is, even allowing Andrew to gain more knowledge.

As time goes by and after several events, his constant search for knowledge of Andrew leads him to question his own existence and desire to go beyond his own abilities. He wants to be able to experience what humans can only feel in their own flesh, so he does everything in his power to become human and be recognized as such.

I love themes where a character questions his own existence and lives different experiences that show him the value he has or what he lacks, so seeing how Andrew was slowly becoming more human from the inside is fascinating.

Once again, a film that in the past was nothing more than "science fiction" could become a reality in the near future. Artificial intelligences are growing by leaps and bounds and many rumors point to the day when they develop consciousness, it is more of a reality. In the case that this is possible, will these intelligences want to possess a physical body, beyond an artificial one? Thinking about the possibility of robots asking for their freedom and demanding their "rights" does not seem like a fantasy scenario to me, given that at present, there are people who want to be robots and would even like to implant robotic parts in their bodies.

The robot's appearance is incredible, despite being a suit, it looks great and has nothing to envy of what could surely be done today with CGI, the same applies to the scenes where they show the artificial organs. One of the things I like about these films is precisely that, since there was no possibility of generating the visual effects with computers, they had to resort to what was available, even using makeup, dolls, puppets and some engineering... and for me, the results were more real, because you see them "palpable", on the other hand, with CGI my mind knows that it is something virtual and it takes away the charm.

The same happens with the settings. Even though the futuristic environment is not that great, for me it looks pretty good and if we ignore some details, it works.

The soundtrack is pretty good too and the way the events unfold can sometimes seem a bit rushed, but it's compensated quite well in the aspect that it's not hard to keep up with.

I didn't know that the film was based on the book The Positronic Man by Isaac Asimov, I've read a few works by that writer (I was hooked on one of his books for a while), so I was interested in reading it, to see the differences that exist with the novel, especially because the author surely describes Andrew's thoughts in much more depth and that, intrigues me a lot.

Overall, it's a good film. The last time I saw it was many years ago and I didn't remember anything, so it was like seeing it for the first time. Not to mention the nostalgic effect it had on me, I've even been encouraged to look for more Robin Williams movies, because in the 90s as I mentioned, national channels broadcast a lot of his films and I got to see several... Anyway... I definitely recommend them 😉

¡Hola a todos los integrantes de ésta comunidad y amantes de las películas! Hace un tiempo comencé a interesarme por ver películas y series ambientadas en temas de IAs y robots, así como ese era un tema recurrente en los años 90, volví a ver películas como I.A. Inteligencia artificial y El hombre bicentenario, de la cual, les hablaré el día de hoy. Recuerdo que el filme fue muy popular cuando lo estrenaron y lo pasaban hasta el cansancio en los canales de televisión abierta, sin mencionar que estaba de moda el actor Robin Williams siendo que su carrera estaba en pleno apogeo y sus trabajos, eran bien recibidos por el público.

En el futuro distante, la tecnología ha avanzado lo suficiente para que los humanos tengan la posibilidad de obtener robots a los cuales usar en sus casas para ayudar en las labores domésticas y otras labores. La familia Martin, acaba adquiriendo uno de estos modelos NDR, al cual acaban llamando Andrew. Al principio, la madre y las hijas se muestran un poco renuentes con la idea de tener a aquel robot en casa, pero el padre les insiste en lo positivo que será para todos el que Andrew viva con ellos. De ese modo, al principio el robot, se muestra en todo momento dispuesto a seguir las órdenes que se les impongan, pues así está programado.

De éste modo, poco a poco Andrew se va ganando un espacio en la familia Martin, aunque va desarrollando un mayor vínculo con Amanda, la hija menor y Richard, el padre, quién no duda en responder las dudas que siempre acaban por formarse en el robot. Andrew posee una gran curiosidad y no sólo eso, teniendo la capacidad de aprender, va obteniendo diferentes habilidades, lo que hace que Richard se de cuenta de cuál es su verdadero potencial, permitiendo incluso que Andrew obtenga más conocimiento.

Con el pasar del tiempo y tras varios acontecimientos, su búsqueda de conocimiento constante de Andrew, lo lleva a plantearse su propia existencia y desear ir más allá de sus propias habilidades. Desea ser capaz de experimentar aquello que los humanos sólo pueden llegar a sentir en carne propia, así que, hace todo lo que esté a su alcance para irse convirtiendo en humano y poder ser reconocido como tal.

Me encantan los temas en donde un personaje se plantea su propia existencia y va viviendo distintas experiencias que le va demostrando el valor que posee o de aquello de lo que carece, de modo que, ver cómo Andrew iba poco a poco volviéndose más humano desde el interior, es fascinante.

Una vez más, una película que en el pasado, no era más que "ciencia ficción", podría volverse una realidad en un futuro cercano. Las inteligencias artificiales están creciendo a pasos agigantados y muchos rumores apuntan a que el día en que desarrollen conciencia, es más una realidad. En el caso de que estos sea posible ¿Desearán estas inteligencias poseer un cuerpo físico, más allá de uno artificial? Pensar en la posibilidad de robots pidiendo su libertad y exigiendo sus "derechos", no me parece un escenario fantasioso, siendo que en el presente, hay personas que quieren ser robots y hasta quisieran implantarse partes robóticas en el cuerpo.

El aspecto del robot es increíble, a pesar de tratarse de un traje, luce genial y no tiene nada que envidiarle a lo que seguramente podría llegar hacerse en la actualidad con CGI, lo mismo aplica para las escenas en donde muestran los órganos artificiales. Una de las cosas que me gusta de estos filmes es precisamente eso, siendo que no se contaba con la posibilidad de generar los efectos visuales con computadoras, se tenía que recurrir con lo que había a disposición, llegando a usarse maquillajes, muñecos, títeres y algo de ingeniería... y para mí, los resultados eran más reales, porque los ves "palpables", en cambio, me sucede con el CGI que mi mente sabe que es algo virtual y le quita el encanto.

Lo mismo ocurre con los escenarios. A pesar de que el ambiente futurista, no es la gran cosa, para mí se ve bastante bien y si obviamos algunos detalles, funciona.

El soundtrack es bastante bueno también y el modo en que se desarrollan los acontecimientos en ocasiones puede notarse algo apresurado, pero se compensa bastante bien en el aspecto de que no es complicado seguirle el ritmo.

No sabía que la película estaba basada en el libro El hombre positrónico de Isaac Asimov, he leído unas cuantas obras de ese escritor (estuve un rato enviciada con uno de sus libros), así que me ha interesado leerlo, para ver las diferencias que existen con la novela, sobre todo porque seguramente el autor describe mucho más a profundidad los pensamientos de Andrew y eso, me causa muchísima intriga.

En lo general, es un buen filme. La última vez que lo vi fue hace muchísimos años y no recordaba nada, así que fue como verlo por primera vez. Sin mencionar el efecto nostálgico que generó en mí, hasta me he animado a buscar más películas de Robin Williams, porque en los 90 como mencioné, los canales nacionales transmitían mucho sus filmes y llegué a ver varios... En fin... Sin duda se las recomiendo 😉
