Hello all movie lovers! In general, I always watch a movie with my boyfriend, but we don't have the same tastes in films, so agreeing on what we are going to watch sometimes ends in someone giving in to the other's taste. I thought then that I could also resume my hobby of watching independent cinema or little-known films, since those are my favorites. I currently use the free platform Pluto TV, which contains a wide catalog of movies and series that have caught my attention.

In the case of the film I'm going to talk to you about today, I found it by chance while looking for what to watch as the start of my time alone as a movie buff. I found the synopsis of Prosthesis quite interesting and since I had previously seen rare movies that I really liked on that platform, I decided to give it a try and I must admit, I'm glad I did.

The plot revolves around Marcos, a young insect lover who works in a store manufacturing prostheses for people who have suffered accidents or been born with missing limbs. The reason why Marcos ended up taking that job was due to a terrible accident that occurred during his childhood and that ended up not only affecting him psychologically, but his own mother suffered serious injuries. Unable to bear the guilt of the accident on his shoulders, Marcos spends the entire day making prostheses in the hope that his mother will one day forgive him.

Marcos is extremely withdrawn, as he fears harming those he interacts with. Aguirre, the owner of the store and who raised Marcos since his father died, begins to get tired of the young man's personality and behind his back, plans a trip without telling him, also hiding other things from him. In the middle of that, Marcos receives some ants that have a deadly poison, to keep in his terrarium... without realizing that the ants end up escaping and that his life will once again have another 180° turn.

From the first moment I was hooked on what was happening and as the film went on, I remained glued to the seat waiting for what was going to happen. It is true that the first minutes of the films are important, because they are what allow the viewer to be hooked and at least with me, Prosthesis achieved that goal.
Beyond being that cliché movie where a shy and withdrawn character is brought out of his shell by a girl with a strange and extroverted personality, here they handle that concept in a quite attractive way. We can see that Marcos' personality after the horrible accident that he was involved in when he was just a child, generated in him a horrible trauma and the way in which he reacts after Aguirre's death is nothing more than the childish part of him, terrified for having "broken" to another person.
The "love" within the film, I don't feel forced. I really liked how a "morbid lover" girl ends up in a bizarre situation when she meets a boy who attracts her because of how strange he is. I found it quite tender how Marcos, who had never thought about love, is enveloped by it and is transformed.
But, undoubtedly one of my favorite parts, is the harshness of the situation of Marcos' mother, the one most affected by the accident, after the deceased father. The poor woman only has the desire to commit suicide so as not to have to live her life as a cripple and despite the fact that her son tries to help her by making all kinds of prostheses, she refuses to accept it. Yes, it gave me a lot of feeling how poor Marcos lived his entire life with that guilt, but as we can see until the end of the film, he is not responsible for how his mother deals with her pain and when Marcos understands it, burning the prosthesis in front of his mother, for me it is a perfect picture of the breaking point.
It is a strange film, entertaining and in certain parts even funny because of some comic moments it has. It was a great way to start watching movies alone. I would definitely see it again and I highly recommend it.

¡Hola a todos los amantes de las películas! Por lo general, siempre miro una película junto a mi novio, pero no tenemos los mismos gustos en cuanto a filmes, así que ponerse de acuerdo sobre qué vamos a ver, en ocasiones termina en alguien cediendo por el gusto del otro. Pensé entonces, que de igual modo podría retomar por mi lado, mi hobbie de ver cine independiente o películas poco conocidas, ya que esas, son mis favoritas. Actualmente utilizo la plataforma gratuita Pluto TV, la cual contiene un amplio catálogo de películas y series que me han llamado la bastante la atención.

En el caso de la película de la cual les hablaré hoy, la encontré por casualidad mientras buscaba qué mirar como inicio de mi tiempo en solitaria como cinéfila. La sinopsis de Prosthesis me pareció bastante interesante y como anteriormente, había visto películas raras que me gustaron bastante en esa plataforma, decidí darle una oportunidad y debo admitir, que me alegro de haberlo hecho.

La trama gira en torno a Marcos, un joven amante de los insectos que trabaja en una tienda fabricando prótesis para personas que han sufrido accidentes o han nacido con extremidades faltantes. El motivo por el cual Marcos, acabó tomando aquel oficio, fue debido a un terrible accidente que ocurrió durante su infancia y que acabó no sólo afectándole psicológicamente, sino que su propia madre, sufrió graves heridas. Incapaz de sobrellevar sobre sus hombros, la culpa del accidente, Marcos se la pasa todo el día fabricando prótesis con la esperanza de que su madre, algún día pueda perdonarlo.

Marcos es extremadamente retraído, pues teme hacerle daño a aquellos con los que se relaciona. Aguirre, el dueño de la tienda y quien crio a Marcos desde que su padre falleció, comienza a cansarse de la personalidad del joven y a sus espaldas, planea un viaje sin avisarle, ocultándole también otras cosas. En medio de eso, Marcos recibe unas hormigas que poseen un veneno mortal, para tenerlas en su terrario... sin darse cuenta de que las hormigas acaban por escaparse y que su vida, volverá a tener otro giro de 180°.

Desde el primer momento quedé enganchada con lo que estaba sucediendo y a medida que iba transcurriendo el filme, permanecía pegada al asiento esperando qué iba a ocurrir. Es cierto de que los primeros minutos de las películas son importantes, porque son los que permiten enganchar al espectador y al menos conmigo, Prosthesis logró ese cometido.
Más allá de ser esa película cliché en donde, un personaje tímido y retraído, es sacado de su coraza por una chica con personalidad extraña y extrovertida, aquí manejan ese concepto de una forma bastante atractiva. Podemos ver que la personalidad de Marcos luego del horrible accidente que protagonizó siendo apenas un niño, generó en él, un trauma espantoso y la forma en la que reacciona luego de la muerte de Aguirre, no es más que su parte infantil, aterrado por haber "roto" a otra persona.
El "amor" dentro de la película, no lo siento forzado. Me gustó mucho como una chica "amante del morbo", acaba metida en una situación bizarra por conocer a un chico que le atrae por lo extraño que es. Me pareció bastante tierno como Marcos, quien nunca había pensando en el amor, es envuelto por el mismo y se va transformando.
Pero, indudablemente una de mis partes favoritas, es la crudeza de la situación de la madre de Marcos, la más afectada por el accidente, después del padre fallecido. La pobre mujer sólo tiene el deseo de suicidarse para no tener que vivir su vida como una lisiada y muy a pesar de que su hijo intenta ayudarla fabricándole todo tipo de prótesis, ella se niega a aceptarlo. Si, me dio mucho sentimiento como el pobre de Marcos vivió toda su vida con aquella culpa, pero como podemos ver hasta el final de la película, él no es responsable de cómo su madre afronta su dolor y cuando Marcos lo entiende, quemando la prótesis enfrente de su madre, para mí es un perfecto cuadro del punto de quiebre.
Es un filme extraño, entretenido y en ciertas partes hasta gracioso por algunos momentos cómicos que tiene. Fue una excelente forma para comenzar a ver películas en solitario. La volvería a ver sin duda y se las recomiendo encarecidamente.
