LOVE AND LIES IN LAGOS // CLICHE!!!!!

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

I guess I attempted watching this movie with some level of trust and expectations based on the fact that it’s coming from Blessing Obasi-Nze. I was, however, grossly disappointed. There’s no better way to put it.

Please, if you’re one of them sentimental Nollywood police, please avoid this post and run along, squirm, scram…

This is the same reason why the industry is currently suffering from cinematic kwashiorkor. Poorly produced heavily recycled movies swallowing up the good quality ones from hardworking producers and filmmakers

So straight up, this movie “Love & Lies in Lagos” is one that should never have seen the light of day. Not only is it a redundant story, but the audio, plot, and directing equally have little or nothing to write home about it.

Disappointed doesn’t even begin to cut it. The duration was supposed to be impressive, but the prolonged scenes made it tiring. Again, the typecasting of IK Ogbonna to speak with the Igbotic accent makes matters worse. Too much talks!

I’m not sure this movie has up to ten scenes in its sequencing as each scene almost lasted more than five minutes. The storyline is one that has been overused! If you don’t have something fresh, you hold on and work towards cooking something sumptuous.

PLOT SUMMARY

Ekene (IK Ogbonna) is a jobless no-gooder. One the Igbos would call ‘Efuléfú’ and the Yorubas would refer to as ‘oloribúruku’

He travels to Lagos to stay with his cousin Dan (Chinedu Emeka David) who’s a doctor, in search of a job. Ekene is penniless. On the other hand, is Vivian (Blessing Obasi-Nze) who’s desperate to get a man that would solve all her financial needs.

She crosses paths with Ekene, who tells her his name is Xavier whilst driving his cousin’s car. The rest is something you can already work out.

MY THOUGHTS

There's no need to grab your popcorn cause I really don’t recommend this movie unless you have some time on your hands to spare. We’ve watched movies along this story way too many times.

Besides all that I’ve already mentioned, the acting especially from the guy who played Dan is really poor. Scripting and lines are heavily flawed.

I didn’t quite appreciate Blessing’s outfits in this film for the most parts. No offense. Costume could have been better.

There are several other flaws to pick out, but I think I’ve said enough already. You can watch this if you want but I’ve played my part.

If you have already watched this and thoroughly enjoyed it, well that’s movies for you. It’s simply based on perception and preferences. This wasn’t for me. It could be for you.

I’m gutted at the waste of talents. Inem King’s facial expressions were so beautiful to see. Just wished this was channeled into a better project. I hope that we see something better subsequently. To put it into perspective, this was a child’s play at best! Such wate of time!

Wow! I thought this was a potential judging from the title. I guess the producers didn't settle down to properly write and produce this piece. Quality is always preferred over quantity. Nicely written!
