Rocky: The Saga of Overcoming

This post is about the word "overcoming" which is what Sylvester Stallone did and for them I'm going to talk about him and his most emblematic saga and of course also about its soundtrack.

I'm going to talk like a man who slept on the street. It all started on July 6, 1946 in New York, during childbirth his mother suffered complications and accidentally cut a nerve caused by the misuse of some forex when extracting it as a result. This caused paralysis in the lower left part of his face, his lips and tongue were affected and this caused him to have a very particular way of speaking.

In 1970 he discovered that his great dream was to study acting, but his parents did not have enough resources to support him, so he even participated in an adult film to be able to pay for his studies. With that money he moved to New York to get a series of extra roles in some films, but soon casting agencies began to reject him due to his lack of acting talent.

In 1975 he only had the company of his friend Buscos, a dog that he could barely hold. And he had to sell it to be able to buy food.

Rocky (1976) - The rise of an unlikely hero

One afternoon the hall saw a fight between heavyweight champion Ali and an unknown boxer. In the 5th round that boxer knocked down ALI but lost by knockout, this fight even inspired the writing of a movie Rocky

This motivated him to lock himself in for 3 days in an apartment that he had been able to rent for only a month, and so, as if he hadn't eaten or slept, he managed to finish a boxing movie that he called Rocky.

All his hopes were pinned on the script and he tried for months without success, but two producers offered him the sum of 125,000 dollars, a fairly considerable amount and that doesn't take into account the economic situation he was going through. However, he rejected the offer because he had not been considered for the lead role. They offered him 350 dollars in exchange for allowing them to hire a renowned actor to play Rocky, but he refused again, because he knew that this was his only chance to achieve his dream.

After a negotiation, they agreed to give the lead role to Stallone, but they would only pay him 35,000 dollars for the challenge. He accepted and once he received the money, the first thing he did was look for the person he loved the most and who had sold "his dog." But the guy didn't want to give it to him, so he made him an irresistible offer of $15.

"Gonna Fly Now" - Rocky (1976)

• This song is the main theme of Rocky, composed by Bill Conti, with lyrics by Carol Connors and Ayn Robbins. Known for its energy, especially in the training scene where Rocky runs through the streets of Philadelphia and climbs the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, it is one of the most iconic scenes in cinema. The song represents overcoming and willpower, an anthem for those who strive to achieve their goals.

Rocky II (1979) - The second chance

• This sequel is the second fight between Apollo and Rocky. In this part, ambition and sacrifice must be highlighted, showing how Rocky overcomes his doubts and gives his all to win the title and the respect of the people, a clear example of today.

Rocky III (1982) - The price of fame

• This is the saga that I like the most of all, with an incredible and also successful soundtrack. In this movie, he faces Clubber Lang, a boxer who wants an opportunity and uses very ugly methods to get one. In this movie, the main song is "Eye of the Tiger" composed by the band Survivor.

Rocky IV (1985) - The cold war in the ring

• In this part Rocky travels to Russia to face Ivan Drago, an almost unbeatable Soviet boxer who has killed Apollo in the ring. Here, the conflict rises to an ideological level, representing the tension between the United States and the Soviet Union during the Cold War. The fight becomes a battle between systems, and Rocky manages to defeat Drago after intense training and effort. The soundtrack of this film is "Living in America" ​​by James Brown and also "Training Montage" and "No easy way out"

Rocky V (1990) - Back to the origins

• After being diagnosed with brain damage, Rocky retires from boxing and returns to his hometown. Although he tries to build a relationship with his son, he ends up training Tommy Gunn, a young boxer who later betrays him. Rocky finally understands that his greatest achievements are not only in the ring, but in the values ​​he represents. For me the saga ends because I don't see the logic of the following ones that are more of the same as the previous ones.

In 1976, Rocky was released, a film that was well received by critics and grossed over 200 million dollars at the box office, as well as winning 3 Oscars, including the Oscar for best film. And to this day, it continues to work.
