Watching anime in the original language can be something that new people might find a bit annoying, and well, I can easily understand it. Japanese voices have their charm, but it's a charm that takes a while to arrive; however, maybe it's more for culture than anything else, but many times the dubbing is so interesting that it's preferable to watch the anime dubbed than in the original language. Of course, this only happens with some good quality anime and with very specific characters, and I'm speaking only from my experience with Spanish. Like for example Goku or Light Yagami. This may also be because of nostalgia, but at least, I can talk about some anime that, for someone who is just starting to watch anime and doesn't feel like reading, have a great dub:

I really don't know if the Spanish dub of Monster in Spain can be obtained in any way other than pirate, since I watched it many years ago I am infinitely grateful to have been able to watch that anime in Spanish, since in my head, due to the type of drawing and the plot, it is closer to a western series, which makes the Spanish dub fit it like a glove. I remember that I started watching Monster in Japanese, and I have to admit that Johan's voice is an excellent voice, but as the series progressed my dad became more and more interested in the anime so we decided to start watching it but in Spanish, a decision that hit the mark.

For Pluto, well this anime is from Netflix and because of that it has to be translated in all languages (or at least in the most popular ones), and, as with Monster, it is also a very western story so the dubbing seems to me another work of art. When I watched it I remember telling a friend that I was watching it in Spanish and he told me that he didn't do that because Netflix always hired the same dubbers, but for a person who doesn't know much about it, well then there is no problem. Pluto, being one of the most complete and great stories you can watch on Netflix, is a must-see anime that doesn't lose its essence when it's switched between languages, and it's also an incredible way to start in the world of anime because of the mature themes it touches on and all the layers it brings with it.

For Cowboy Bebo is a more than interesting case in terms of dubbing. I've always thought that watching a movie, anime or animated series in its original language is as good as its dubbing. By having an audio superimposed on the animation, it is not very difficult to get used to seeing something animated and think that those are the original voices; so when I saw cowbop bebop in English, my head really assimilated that that was the original language, since it is a dubbing so well done and with so much emotion, besides that the voice of each character is so good, that even the director said that he preferred to see that anime in English than in its original language.

I would bet that 90% of anime fans started watching them dubbed, in my case because they were broadcast on TV dubbed in Latin Spanish, the classics of the 90s, but when one begins to get more into this world of anime, begins to get used to the original language and begins to realize the differences.

Nowadays I can no longer watch anime dubbed in Spanish, Japanese is sublime for me haha but that does not mean that at the time I loved watching them that way and some are very well done 👌

It's true. I can watch anime in Spanish and I enjoy it, especially when it's something very calm like Dungeon Meshi or Chainsawman.

In few cases are the dubs better than the original audio, but these examples you cite are quite obvious and interesting. From my point of view, the dubbing of Dragon Ball into Latin Spanish is one of the most accurate.

Thanks for sharing!

Yeah. Also Pokémon or Naruto, but I'm sure it's a matter of habit more than anything else. I really liked Mob btw.

Buen post!

I like to watch in both Spanish and Japanese, but sometimes it's easier for me in Spanish to move forward with what I do as well as the anime hehe. Good post!

It's true that dubbing can completely change the experience of watching an anime. Sometimes, as you mention, certain voices can resonate more and make the connection with the characters stronger. 👍

What could you say is a voice that you like more dubbed than in the original language? I really like Meruem's from Hunter x Hunter.

Personally, I love the Latin Spanish dub of Dragon Ball Z, it's just amazing, I grew up with it!

Nunca me convenció esa voz tan aguda.

Watching anime in the original language for me is an acquired taste because growing up in the nineties I watched everything dubbed in Latin. And it's so much so that those voices are idols that's why watching DBZ, for example, in Japanese for me is very rare. Even Zodiac Knights, I watched them again not long ago and it was in Spanish/Latin.

In Dragon Ball I support you, but with Saint Seiya, because I was fortunate enough to see the Hades saga when it premiered in its original language and adding the Playstation games where they also speak in Japanese helped me adapt better.
