Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation

The national grid in my country is falling apart and it has put a hold on lots of activities. The country seems to be on pause but the leaders seem to not give a shit neither do I. It's kind of exciting in a way because I don't have to go to school and I have all day to myself but the sad part is that there's a national blackout and people just have to come up with different means to power up their devices.

Since activities around the country are on hold, I decided to make good use of my stay at home by rewatching the third installment of the Hotel Transylvania franchise.

Hotel Transylvania 3, follows Dracula and his monster friends as they embark on a luxurious cruise ship vacation booked by Mavis in order to spend time with her father after she misinterpreted his depression over being single for too long as stress from too much work.

On arriving at their destination, the Bermuda triangle, Drac gets zinged with the beautiful ship's caption Ericka at first sight.

While they party long and hard, Drac with the help of his friends, go on a date with Ericka but unknown to him, she's the great granddaughter of his enemy Abraham Van Helsing who after his encounter with Drac in the second installment had turned his body into a machine to avoid dying without completing his mission of erasing all monsters.

Now with the aid of his great granddaughter, who was able to get the instrument of monster destruction from Atlantis ruins, his dreams of wiping out all monsters were finally coming to pass.

Mavis finally notices her father's attraction to Ericka and is suspicious that she has evil motives. She tries to warn her father about her suspicion but he's too zinged with Ericka to see the red flags she kept waving in his face.

As the gang of monsters enjoy the ship's amenities, Drac must confront his feelings and also protect his loved ones from the wrath of Abraham Van Helsing.

My Review and Rating:

Selena Gomez presence as part of the voice casters is one of the factors that compelled me to rewatch this film. I just couldn't stop drooling over Mavis as I could see Selena's semblance in her every movement.

Hotel Transylvania 3 is an animated comedy film but what is even more comical is how Van Helsing intended on using a monster octopus to wipe out other monstrous beings. Why couldn't he go for probably machines, or recruit humans who'd fight alongside him since he wanted to rid the world of monsters as he thought them to be life threatening to the human world? I was taken out completely when I saw his weapon of mass destruction was an octopus who didn't understand one toxic musical language but could be appeased with another.

The animation in the film is visually striking with vibrant colors and very detailed character designs that bring the monsters and their world to life. Also, beneath the laughs and thrills, the films explores themes of friendship, family and acceptance which makes me even more drawn to its storyline.

If you're looking for what to watch to distract yourself from life's plenty troubles, I recommend hotel Transylvania 3 as it delivers laughs aplenty.

I'd rate it a solid 4.5/5. It's a heartwarming watch for audiences of all ages.
