It's Friday again meaning it's time again for another Nineties Friday. This weekly event was started by @geneeverett and I am the proud cosponsor. You can create a post about just anything from the 1990's, your imagination is the limit. One lucky winner will receive a prize of 6 HSBI units, which are the gift that keeps on giving as they provide you with curations on your posts. You can never have too many of those! Just make sure to use the tag #ninetiesfriday and never a bad idea to do a shoutout to @geneeverett. You can also join the Nineties Friday community and post it there if you like as well. It's always fun to see all of the different posts every week. Feel free to join in on the fun!

This morning I hadn't really come up with an idea for the post today, so I just kind of winged it. As usual I like to start of with either movies or TV shows from the decade, and today will be no exception. There is also a bonus quiz in between the movies and music for a chance to win yourself an HSBI unit. But you need to be fast because the first correct answer wins the prize!

Let's start off with some great action with a Bond film, GoldenEye! (Also a great video game!)

GoldenEye

mavink.com

The James Bond franchise had been quiet for a several years after their last movie with Timothy Dalton as Bond. That all changed in 1995 bringing Pierce Brosnan into the role and kicked it off with style in the hit film "GoldenEye". Starring as well was Sean Bean as the villain and introducing actress Famke Janssen to the world as Xenia Onatopp. If you somehow missed this bond film it's a must see, it's always streaming for free somewhere out there!

Wayne's World

azmovies.net

This film was a spinoff from Saturday Night Live where Mike Meyers and Dana Carvey recreated their hit skit into a full length movie. Meyers plays Wayne who runs a public access TV show from his parent's basement and is offered a chance to make it big on prime TV. It's a fun film with the iconic car with a licorice dispenser of all things. I haven't watched this film in years to be honest, but one of these days I will have to watch it one more time. It will make you laugh!

New Contest

I'm adding in a new contest today just for fun. There will be a movie quote from the 1990's and you have to tell me what film it comes from and the character who's line it was. First person to answer correctly wins one HSBI unit. Here we go: “The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.”

Good luck!

Now for some music from the decade.

AC/DC

rollingstone.com

This Australian band was already a world wide known phenomenon after their string of hit records in the 1980's. But in 1990 they struck again with their huge record "The Razor's Edge". The song that led the way was also the song that has made them the most money over their long career, "Thunderstruck". Just an interesting factoid, they charge one million dollars for the use of this song in any movie!

Blind Melon

bbc.co.uk

This band formed in Los Angeles in 1990 with front man Shannon Hoon. Hoon was friends Axl Rose of Guns N' Roses which gave the band a serious head start in the industry. In 1992 they released their self titled debut album that sold well world wide making them a band in demand. They followed up their debut with a second album "Soup" in 1995. Unfortunately later than year Hoon was found dead on the band's tour bus having suffered a heart attack from a cocaine overdose.

In 1996 they essentially broke up, only to reunite in 2006 with a new lead vocalist and are still touring today.

The Wallflowers

wall.alphacoders.com

This Los Angeles band formed in 1990 and played extensive up and down the Sunset Strip. In 1991 they were offered a record deal and produced a self titled album that failed to sell well. Their second album "Bringing Down the Horse" started with very slow sales but eventually became a big seller with several hits, one of which was "One Headlight":

White Zombie

drgnews.com

Formed in 1985 in New York City they struggled to find an audience as they were experimenting with noise rock. Then in 1990 they switched to a heavy metal sound and people started to pay attention. In 1991 they released "La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Volume One" gaining them mainstream success. They produced "Astro-Creep: 2000" in 1995 which had a huge hit "More Human Than Human" which I share here. This was the last album they produced as lead singer Rob Zombie went solo after their crowning effort.

Shakira

rare-gallery.com

After two relatively poor selling albums this Colombian singer rocketed onto the Latin American music scene with her album "Pies Descalzos" (Bare Feet). Her follow up album "Dónde Están los Ladrones?" (Where Are the Thieves) released in 1998 sold even better and produced multiple hit songs. It was this record that got her introduced to the English speaking world and world wide recognition. This is one of her slower songs, but shows off her singing ability better than most of her music. This is "Tú" (You):

That will wrap up this 90's Friday post. I hope you enjoyed all or at least some of the movies or songs. Also remember the first person to answer the movie quote with the name of the the movie and the character who says it wins one HSBI unit. Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below, and thank you for all of your support. I really do appreciate it! Have a great weekend!

Now for my pic of the 90s.... Groundhog Day over and over and over Lol😀😇

avatar

Ding, ding we a have a winner! Great job! I keep meaning to showcase Groundhog Day, I just keep forgetting. Bill Murray was amazing in that movie!

avatar

No worries, your alarm will go off tomorrow morning to remind you about Groundhog Day again and again and again Lol😇🤣

avatar

Ah man, I knew it, but I just couldn't place it so I had to look it up. I am not going to spoil it for anyone else. Such a good movie though I really need to go back and watch it. I have only ever seen it the first time. Goldeneye was a good movie. I should watch that one again too!

avatar

Isn't it an awesome movie? @silvertop got that one not much longer after your response. I need to watch both of those movies again as well!

avatar

I was thinking it was Se7en or something like that. Even that one with Denzel Washington Nick of Time or whatever.

avatar

Nope, I was wrong both times. Fallen was the movie I was thinking of.

avatar

Good old The Usual Suspects, It's been a long time since I watched Se7en and Out of Time. I've gotten to the point that I rarely watch broadcast TV, I just mainly stream what I want to watch.

avatar

We are kind of the same way with a few exceptions. If we do watch broadcast TV it is almost always DVR'd unless it is the local news or Court TV.

Happy Nineties Friday! 🎸 !PIMP

Man U must be in love with Shakira Shakira 😄. She drops by every week or two! Can’t blame ya there! She’s hot!

Blind Melon man! Known as a one hit wonder but honestly were so much more! And would have been way way more if Shannon hadn’t passed away. You know he’s on this Nineties GNR song and video right? ⬇️

Him and front man Axl went to same high school! Not a joke! Small world!

He’s in video above around 3:33

IMG_6942.jpeg

Wallflowers weren’t my favorite band Eder but I think there smash hit , well if Bruce Springsteen or Tom Pettty wrote that song it would be there biggest hit I’d bet! Those legends say he’s massively underrated song writer! Of anything being Bob Dylan’s son worked against him not for him!
I love there cover of David Bowie’s Hero’s! ⬇️

avatar

Wallflowers weren't my favorite but had a couple catchy songs. Blind Melon definitely would have been a lot bigger had he not died, being friend with Axl from high school wouldn't hurt your musical career that's for sure!

That cover of Bowie is good! Thanks bro!

So many good memories. 90s Friday rocks! 🤙🏻💯

Oh man! For sure 80s and 90s were my favorite decades culture wise, but in 80s I was just a kid and didn't knew much but 90s were my adolescent years and you can imagine all that diversity in the 'tender age in bloom'. Good memories, thank you.

avatar

I grew up in the 80's, it was a lot of fun! Culture of the two decades was great, before social media and Kim Kardashian took over the world...

The one thing I thought will make our future better is the one thing which ruined it all -> computers. Isn't it ironic, don't you think? A little too ironic? :D

One of the few James Bond movies I have seen, Golden Eye. Goldfinger is another.

avatar

I've seen them all, I remember good old Goldfinger, back in the early bond years. Bond is a lot different nowadays. More brutal and violent than they used to be...

avatar

For many years I have seen all the movies of agent 007 since the first movie of the year 62, I was not born yet, but I could not overlook that movie and watch it, all I liked except for the last one where they give to understand that he dies. but that's another story.

One of the things I liked the most about those movies were the technological advances, I dreamed of having those weapons in my car, of course hahaha I didn't have a car, hahaha.

It's too late to prepare a publication, where I can join this friday dynamic, but it's another one I just wrote down in my to do list.

I can not fail to mention the list of musicians of that time as I have always said the 80's and 90's was one of the best, not without mentioning the Blues, the origin,

I am very happy for my latin artist and neighbor of my country Venezuela, as you well know Shakira is Colombian and is a woman who has left well in high the music that is produced on these sides of the world,

I always wanted a car with surface to air missiles and machine guns... Too bad it will never happen...

Shakira is always a great bet, I liked her early in her career more than currently though. Back before she went blonde!
