[ENG-ESP] Deep drama, action and sci-fi in Echo (SERIES REVIEW)

Echo is the new R-rated original series created by Marvel Studios which consists of five episodes starring actress Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez. Under the Marvel Spotlight banner, the series kicks off a new street-fighting franchise with violent action scenes and deeper drama compared to the company's other projects, making it canon, with its launch, to all the series released by Netflix 10 years ago in order to expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Echo es la nueva serie original de clasificación R creada por Marvel Studios la cual consta de cinco episodios protagonizados por la actriz Alaqua Cox en el papel de Maya López. Bajo la insignia Marvel Spotlight, esta serie inicia una nueva franquicia de lucha callejera con escenas de acción muy violentas y un drama más profundo en comparación a otros proyectos de la misma compañía, haciendo canon, con su estreno, a todas las series lanzadas por Netflix hace 10 años atrás en vista a expandir el Universo Cinematográfico de Marvel.

Alaqua is joined by Devery Jacobs, Chaske Spencer, Zahn McClamon, Tantoo Cardinal, Graham Greene, Cody Lghtning and Vincent D'Onofrio reprising the role of Kingpin. Jeremy Renner and Charlie Cox make a cameo in their respective roles as Ronin and Daredevil in the first episode, making these characters' stories part of their own shared universe.

Junto a Alaqua participan otros actores como Devery Jacobs, Chaske Spencer, Zahn McClamon, Tantoo Cardinal, Graham Greene, Cody Lghtning y Vincent D’Onofrio, repitiendo el papel de Kingpin. Jeremy Renner y Charlie Cox hacen un cameo en sus respectivos papeles de Ronin y Daredevil en el primer capítulo haciendo inclusión de las historias de estos personajes en su propio universo compartido.

As Daredevil appears in his signature costume from the Netflix series, we can see that the events of his own series and the stories nurtured in projects like The Defenders, Lucke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and The Punisher take place on the same Earth as The Avengers and Avengers: Endgame movies. Echo, set six months after the last scene seen in Hawkeye, as it is itself considered a futuristic series.

Al aparecer Daredevil con su traje característico de las series de Netflix, se puede notar que los hechos transcurridos en su propia serie y de las historias nutridas en proyectos como The Defenders, Lucke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones y The Punisher transcurren en la misma Tierra que las películas The Avengers y Avengers: Endgame. Echo, se sitúa seis meses después de la última escena vista en Hawkeye, por lo que se considera en sí una serie futurista.

It explores both the origin, childhood and ancestry of the character Maya Lopez, going back to his roots in the aboriginal times of the Tamaha people of Ohklahoma and the Choctaw nation. This is the first ever Marvel Studios project to feature characters and actors native to the North American region, including, but not limited to, individuals who carry on traditions dating back more than 500 years.

Se explora tanto el origen, niñez y ascendencia del personaje Maya López, yendo a sus raíces, ubicadas en la época de los aborígenes del pueblo de Tamaha en Ohklahoma y la nación Choctaw. Este es el primer proyecto de Marvel Studios donde se evidencia la participación de personajes y actores originarios de la región de América del Norte, incluyendo no forzadamente a individuos que mantienen tradiciones de hace más de 500 años.

Kingpin is the main villain here, being a worthy opponent for the series and highlighted by a splendid performance from Vincent. There's a nod to the fact that Maya, Kingpin and Daredevil all survived the Thanos snap, as well as the Roxxon company logo that appears too in the Cloak & Dagger series, and even the filming of scenes have this dark in-between tone of Netflix and ABC.

Kingpin es el villano principal aquí, siendo un oponente digno de la serie y destacado por una actuación espléndida por parte de Vincent. Se deja en guiño a que tanto Maya, como Kingpin y Daredevil sobrevivieron al chasquido de Thanos, además del logo de la compañía Roxxon que aparece en la serie Cloak & Dagger, e incluso, la filmación de escenas tienen este tono oscuro intermedio propio de Netflix y ABC.

With many action scenes and violence, Echo distances itself somewhat from series such as Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Loki, opening the way to a new line of projects under this category. As for the soundtrack, it moves us with a country and modern pop style music full of rhythm, which is what balances all its drama.

Con muchas escenas de acción y violencia, Echo se distancia un poco de series como Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law y Loki, abriendo paso a una nueva línea de proyectos bajo esta categoría. En cuanto a la banda sonora, la misma, nos conmueve con una música al estilo country y pop moderno llena de ritmo, que es la que equilibra todo su drama.

Alaqua Cox is a deaf-mute actress who plays the central character, turning her whole environment to viewers with these characteristics, for this reason, you may feel the series a little bit different from the conventional, although I even recommend watching it with headphones or with a lot of presence of low frequencies. The language for mute people is present in each episode to the same extent as natural language.

Alaqua Cox es una actriz sordo-muda que interpreta al personaje central, girando todo su ambiente a espectadores con estas características, por esta razón, puedas sentir la serie un poco diferente de lo convencional, aunque incluso te recomiendo verla con auriculares o con mucha presencia de frecuencias bajas. El lenguaje para personas mudas está vigente en cada capítulo a la misma medida que el lenguaje natural.

New characters with similar characteristics to Kahori, who was recently introduced in the anime series What If? are evident, but their relationship to the story is not made clear. If you know which character I'm talking about, I'm sure you've been thinking about her all along, since it's not considered a coincidence that projects with the same kind of emphasis are released back-to-back.

Se evidencian personajes nuevos con características similares a Kahori, quien fue introducido recientemente en la serie animada What If? pero no nos dejan claro su relación con la historia. Si sabes de qué personaje estoy hablando seguro estuviste todo el tiempo pensando en él, dado que no se considera una coincidencia que se lancen proyectos haciendo énfasis a la misma índole de forma consecutiva.

I really liked this change of scenery and what this show gives us, which made me disconnect and entertained me a lot. No doubt it will have a second season, but in the meantime, the story of Maya Lopez and Wilson Fisk will continue in the upcoming series and movies to be released next year with Daredevil: Born Again, The Punisher 3, The Defenders 2 and Spider-man 4, where we will finally see Kingpin as mayor and giving war to the street vigilantes. Me gustó mucho este cambio de panorama y lo que nos brinda este show, el cual me hizo desconectar y entretenerme bastante. Sin duda, tendrá una segunda temporada, pero mientras tanto, la historia de Maya López y Wilson Fisk continuarán en las próximas series y películas a estrenarse el próximo año con Daredevil: Born Again, The Punisher 3, The Defenders 2 y Spider-man 4, donde veremos finalmente a Kingpin como alcalde y dándole guerra a los héroes callejeros. ¿Qué tanto te gustó esta serie?
