[ESP-ENG] Blue Beetle - Una película de latinos para latinos (Movie Review)

Blue Beetle es la última película live-action de la colaboración DC/Warner Bros. y la menos esperada de todas, la cual, cuenta el origen del personaje basado en los cómics de DC, Jaime Reyes, un muchacho de descendencia mexicana que busca mejorar su situación económica tras haberse graduado de la universidad, en cambio, termina siendo fusionado con una tecnología extraterrestre por accidente teniendo que enfrentar múltiples desafíos. La película difiere y resalta por encima de las de la misma compañía mostrando un lado más natural y menos superheróico que otras estrenadas este año como Shazam! Fury of the Gods y The Flash.

Blue Beetle is the latest live-action film of the DC/Warner Bros. collaboration and the least expected of all, which tells the origin of the character based on DC comics, Jaime Reyes, a boy of Mexican descent who seeks to improve his economic situation after graduating from college, instead, ends up being merged with an alien technology by accident having to face multiple challenges. The film differs and stands out from others from the same company showing a more natural and less superheroic side than others released this year such as Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash.

Xolo Maridueña interpreta al personaje central, un joven de 22 años que vive con su familia en un barrio latino ubicado en una de las costas de Estados Unidos, quienes aspiran a tener una vida mejor a pesar de los problemas industrio-civiles que se les son provocados por la compañía dueña del recinto, Kord Industries. Acompañan a Xolo un elenco conformado por actores de habla hispana como Becky G en el papel de Khaji-Da (Blue Beetle), Bruna Marquezine, George Lopez, Harvey Guillén, Belissa Escobedo, Raoul Trujillo, Damián Alcázar, Adriana Barraza, Elpida Carrillo y Susan Sarandon como la antagonista.

Xolo Maridueña plays the central character, a 22-year-old young man who lives with his family in a Latino neighborhood located on one of the coasts of the United States, who aspire to have a better life despite the industrial-civil problems caused by the company that owns the compound, Kord Industries. Xolo is accompanied by a cast of Spanish-speaking actors including Becky G as Khaji-Da (Blue Beetle), Bruna Marquezine, George Lopez, Harvey Guillén, Belissa Escobedo, Raoul Trujillo, Damián Alcázar, Adriana Barraza, Elpida Carrillo and Susan Sarandon as the antagonist.

Esta cinta reúne las características más esenciales de la cultura latina y lo que es tener que vivir como un emigrante en un país capitalista. Blue Beetle es, en sí, una película mexicana de habla hispana y anglosajona que muestra y profundiza enormemente el amor familiar, el sentido de la prosperidad y la supervivencia de los latinos en un mundo que avanza rápidamente con cambios a los que una persona debe de adaptarse en aras de poder tener una vida mejor acorde a sus circunstancias.

This film brings together the most essential characteristics of Latino culture and what it is like to have to live as an immigrant in a capitalist country. Blue Beetle is, in itself, a Spanish and English-speaking Mexican film that shows and greatly deepens the family love, the sense of prosperity and survival of Latinos in a world that is rapidly advancing with changes to which a person must adapt in order to have a better life according to their own circumstances.

Los gráficos son muy buenos y supera ambas mencionadas anteriormente incluyendo las muestras del trailer de Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom, con una banda sonora de influencia caribeña, puertoriqueña, cubana y mexicana que predomina a lo largo de la cinta. Blue Beetle es muy entretenida con también toques de suspenso, mucha comedia pero también muchas pero muchas escenas tristes con otras que te llenan el corazón de alegría.

Graphics are very good and surpasses both of the above mentioned including the trailer samples from Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom, with a Caribbean, Puerto Rican, Cuban and Mexican influenced soundtrack that predominates throughout the film. Blue Beetle is very entertaining with touches of suspense, lots of comedy but also many, many sad scenes with others that fill your heart with joy.

Los atuendos son 100% fieles a los cómics y dibujos animados, evidenciando un traje con el que los fans van a flipar desde el minuto uno. Se hacen muchas referencias a otros personajes como Batman, Superman, Flash y el primer Blue Beetle (Ted Kord) haciendo canon incluso con esto la serie de Watchmen con pequeñas distantes conexiones. Aún se desconoce el futuro de este nuevo personaje en el universo cinematográfico de DC, pero, según James Gunn, su nuevo CEO, Xolo Maridueña es el elegido para interpretar al Blue Beetle de la sagas de películas que se están actualmente construyendo.

The outfits are 100% faithful to the comics and cartoons, evidencing a costume that fans are going to freak out about from minute one. Many references are made to other characters such as Batman, Superman, Flash and the first Blue Beetle (Ted Kord) making canon even with this the Watchmen series with small distant connections. The future of this new character in the DC cinematic universe is still unknown, but, according to James Gunn, its new CEO, Xolo Maridueña is the chosen one to play the Blue Beetle of the movie sagas that are currently under construction.

La cinta ocurre después de los hechos ocurridos en la recién estrenada The Flash, aunque se estima que ocurre en el futuro, después de los cambios que Barry Allen generó en el multiverso, cambiando muchas cosas, entre ellas, una línea temporal nueva donde ya existían otros héroes anteriormente. Se puede apreciar mucha tecnología acá, muy parecida a la que vimos en Black Adam, así que probablemente tendrá alguna que otra conexión oculta para ir reflejando la nueva forma que va tomando este DCU.

This film takes place after the events that occurred in the recently released The Flash, although it's estimated that it takes place in the future, after the changes that Barry Allen generated in the multiverse, changing many things, including a new timeline where other heroes already existed before. A lot of technology can be seen here, very similar to what we saw in Black Adam, so it will probably have some other hidden connection to reflect the new shape that this DCU is taking.

No esperé absolutamente nada de esta película, pero me llevé lo mejor de ella, la disfruté muchísimo y me sentí muy identificado con ella. Si la saga continúa así presiento que tendrá un futuro brillante tanto en la pantalla grande como chica, mostrando diferentes personajes de diferentes culturas que harán expandir un poco más su universo cinematográfico con personajes basados en cómics. Si eres latino(a), esta es una peli que no debes perderte, me comentarás por acá luego de que la hayas visto, no olvides que tiene mucha acción, sin más, te leo en la caja de comentarios. Mi escena favorita fue la pelea final.

I expected absolutely nothing from this movie, but I got the best out of it, I enjoyed it a lot and I felt very identified with it. If the saga continues like this I have a feeling it will have a bright future both on the big and small screen, showing different characters from different cultures that will expand its cinematic universe a little more with characters based on comics.
