Movie experience : Only Murders in the Building
Hi, my dear movie and series lovers!
Last time I talked about a stylish and light French detective series Les Petits Meurtres d'Agatha Christie based on the works of the detective queen Agatha Christie. Today I want to continue the detective theme and it will again be a fairly light series, but this time we will fast-forward to New York.
Perhaps someone will not agree with me, but I would put these two series on the same level. No, they are completely different in content, absolutely nothing in common, but at the same time they are very similar in style. And if you want something light for a Saturday night - choose Only Murders in the Building.
So, as usual, I start with a small description taken from the open sourses.
Only Murders in the Building is an American mystery comedy-drama television series created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman. The ten-episode first season premiered on Hulu in August 2021. The plot follows three strangers played by Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez, with a shared interest in true crime podcasts who team up to investigate a death in the apartment building they all live in. The series has received critical acclaim for its comedic approach to crime fiction, as well as the performances of the lead cast and the chemistry among them.
In the first season, after a suspicious death in their affluent Upper West Side apartment building, the three neighbors start their own podcast about their investigation. In the second season, which premiered in June 2022, the trio themselves become suspects in the bloody murder of another building resident.
The series has received numerous accolades, including nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series and for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Martin and Short.
As it is written in discription, in July 2022, the series was renewed for a third season, which is set to premiere on August 8, 2023. But at the moment only the first two seasons are available in my country so I can tell you nothing about the third one, but I’m sure it’s really good.
As I said above, I really liked the series for its lightness and humor. But there is one more detail that is important to me personally. And here I again return to the series, which I already wrote about earlier, namely the series Desperate Housewives. If the common point for the Only Murders in the Building and Les Petits Meurtres d'Agatha Christie is precisely the ease in the narrative (which you will agree is not so simple for the detective genre), then for the Only Murders in the Building and Desperate Housewives the common point is a lot of details of everyday life.
Thus, in addition to the detective story, you will get the opportunity to observe how life works in a fairly prestigious apartment building in New York. Oh, it's a whole special world with its own rules! Note that the series is quite new, so it's all the way it is today, and not historical sketches.
Here you will find the details of the interior, and the features of managing such a house. If you like to watch such details of life in other countries, it will be no less interesting for you than a detective story.
And in conclusion - the series is beautiful. Simply beautiful in an aesthetic sense. I also liked the acting, although I also read criticism. But criticism... what is criticism? I either like it or not! So, I really liked this series and I can recommend it!
