Weak Hero Class 1 is an action packed korean drama with eight (8) episodes, centering on school violence, friendship and domestic abuse. It features Park Ji-hoon as Yeon Si-eun, Choi Hyun-wook as Ahn Su-ho and Hong Kyung as Oh Beom-seok.

Plot Overview: The story follows a top student at Eunjang High school, Yeon Si-eun who is all about books. Si-eun was the top of his class and the teacher’s pet. He lived with his father who was a national judo coach, but due to his demanding career he was always away from home. This led to a distant relationship between father and son.
Si-eun’s mother was also always busy with her career and emotionally unavailable—this contributed to shaping Si-eun’s character, making him a cold and distant person.

But things changed for Si-eun when he befriended a rebellious MMA fighter in his class, Ahn Su-ho. Su-ho was a loyal friend from a troubled background, he was brave and physically fit. He taught Si-eun the value of friendship and connection and protected him, Si-eun’s first smile in the series was because of Su-ho.

When Si-eun was being bullied in his class, he showed that he wasn’t just all about books, he knew how to defend himself with intelligence, inner strength and strategy. He surprised his bullies and everyone else with the way he fought, no one had ever seen that side of him.

Soon Su-ho and Si-eun became friends with Oh Beom-seok, a calm and quiet boy from a wealthy home who was abused by his father. Beom-seok transferred schools after being repeatedly bullied in his former school, the cycle of bully was about to start in his new school but his new found, genuine friends—Su-ho and Si-eun defended him even against bullies from his past. The trio became inseparable.

However, an issue arose as Beom-seok’s insecurities increased, his fear of being abandoned by his friends, his fear of being left out. He began feeling unwanted, like a third wheel. Si-eun understood him initially and tried to reason with him but Beom-seok’s insecurities and inferiority complex spiraled out of control, leading to the separation of the trio.

Beom-seok began hanging out with other students that bad records in the school, to him they made him feel wanted unlike Si-eun and Su-ho. Beom-seok then planned with his new friends and set a trap, Si-eun and Su-ho walked right into it which led to Su-ho falling into a coma.

In the final episode, Si-eun was filled with anger, burning with revenge as he went after the perpetrators one by one. He ultimately descended into brutality while Su-ho remained in a coma and Beom-seok forcefully sent abroad to school after destroying a genuine friendship.

The series ended on a tragic note but it has been confirmed that a season two would be released on the 25th of April, 2025 giving more depth to Si-eun’s character and perhaps a path to his healing or utter ruin.

Character Review: Choi Hyun-wook who played as Su-ho has played in other various korean dramas and he is a versatile actor! He was the reason I stayed hook to the series and his coma plot hurt me, urghhh! I’m still struggling to process his ending, he deserved better!!

Park Ji-hoon who played as Si-eun did absolutely well, I honestly didn’t think he’d do so good as this is my first time seeing him act. His character looked really cold in the beginning, but he delivered the role so well.

I do understand why Hong Kyung’s character as Oh Beom-seok felt left out, but he’d have talked it out instead of going that far, he went just too far. This made his character get lots of criticisms, overall he delivered his role well.

Weak Hero Class 1 is a school violence kdrama, action packed with funny parts that would make your heart light and sad parts that will make your heart heavy. Overall, it is a korean drama I commend, it’s too good.
