La voz de la igualdad: ¿Destino o determinación? [ESP-ENG]

Dos palabras que generalmente nos acompañan en nuestra juventud mientras nos encontramos en la búsqueda de una identidad personal y social que nos permita encajar en el mundo que vivimos, pero que curiosamente y a mi parecer, no pueden ir de la mano.

Muchos hemos pensado en algún punto que nuestras vidas ya están destinadas y que no pueden acabar hasta que hayamos cumplido con nuestro objetivo en este mundo, pero eso, a pesar de que aun lo sigo analizando, me parece una idea muy utópica porque he vivido 26 años en este mundo y les puedo asegurar en mi propia experiencia, que nada sucede si no trabajamos para que las cosas que deseamos alcanzar se den.

En la película que hoy les vengo a recomendar no hablan sobre este tema específicamente, pero la trama ha permitido que yo me pregunte si ha sido el destino o la determinación de los personajes lo que los llevó a vivir esta historia fascinante, que además ha sido basada en hechos reales.

"La voz de la igualdad" se centra en contarnos las travesías por las que un par de abogados debieron pasar para poder alcanzar que las leyes de Estados Unidos cambiaran a favor de la mujer en una época en la que la sociedad las limitaba de realizar actividades que eran solo para hombres, excusándose en un pensamiento radical que llamaban “orden natural” de las cosas.

Pero lo mejor de todo fue enfrentar esta situación con un caso donde siquiera estaban defendiendo al género femenino, razón que le dio más peso a los argumentos presentados sobre la igualdad por el par de abogados que además eran un matrimonio.

No cualquiera podría enfrentarse antes tales situaciones, incluso para ellos fue bastante difícil alzar la voz y actuar contra todo pronóstico con la ferviente determinación de alcanzar sus objetivos para que la sociedad pudiera avanzar. Pero, ¿Hablamos de determinación o quizá destino? Pues ambos vivieron situaciones y desafíos personales bastante desalentadoras antes de llegar a este punto, que se podría pensar en que tal vez ellos habían sido escogidos desde antes para ser quienes llevaran la voz de la igualdad ante un tribunal antes de que sus vidas culminaran.

Yo creería que hay un poco de las dos en este caso, pues no imagino a personas sin la misma preparación, sin las experiencias que ellos vivieron y sin sus mismas personalidades liderando un caso de igualdad en el que ni siquiera ellos fueron los principales beneficiados. Pero además, la valentía, la inteligencia y la constancia que los caracterizaba me dicen que sin su esfuerzo jamás hubieran conseguido generar algún cambio.

Bueno, está demás decir que me ha gustado mucho esta película y que me encantaría que se animaran a verla porque además de ser una historia de la vida real, ha sido producida para generar en el espectador el deseo por el cambio con una sensación entusiasta y formidable por la evolución de una sociedad conformista.

Destiny or determination?

Two words that generally accompany us in our youth while we are searching for a personal and social identity that allows us to fit into the world we live in, but that curiously and in my opinion, cannot go hand in hand.

Many of us have thought at some point that our lives are already destined and that they cannot end until we have fulfilled our goal in this world, but that, although I am still analyzing it, seems to me a very utopian idea because I have lived 26 years in this world and I can assure you in my own experience, that nothing happens if we do not work for the things we want to achieve.

In the movie that I am recommending today, they do not talk about this topic specifically, but the plot has allowed me to wonder if it was destiny or the determination of the characters that led them to live this fascinating story, which is also based on real events.

"On the Basis of Sex" focuses on telling us about the journeys that a couple of lawyers had to go through in order to get the laws of the United States to change in favor of women at a time when society limited them to perform activities that were only for men, excusing themselves in a radical thinking that they called “natural order” of things.

But the best of all was to face this situation with a case where they were even defending the female gender, a reason that gave more weight to the arguments presented on equality by the pair of lawyers who were also a married couple.

Not everyone could face such situations, even for them it was quite difficult to raise their voices and act against all odds with the fervent determination to achieve their goals so that society could move forward. But are we talking about determination or perhaps destiny? For they both lived through some pretty daunting personal situations and challenges before reaching this point, that one would think that perhaps they had been chosen from before to be the ones to carry the voice of equality before a court of law before their lives culminated.

I would believe that there is a bit of both in this case, since I cannot imagine people without the same preparation, without the experiences they lived through and without their same personalities leading a case for equality in which they were not even the main beneficiaries. But in addition, the courage, intelligence and perseverance that characterized them tell me that without their efforts they would never have been able to generate any change.

Well, needless to say, I really liked this film and I would love to encourage you to see it because besides being a real life story, it has been produced to generate in the viewer the desire for change with an enthusiastic and formidable feeling for the evolution of a conformist society.
