Seit 1. April 2025 benötigen EU-Bürger ein elektronisches "Visum" (offiziell heißt es "Electronic Travel Authorisation", kurz ETA), um in das Vereinigte Königreich zu reisen.

Ist ein ähnliches System wie ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization), das die USA bereits seit 2009 eingeführt haben.

Man muss eine App herunterlanden, dann den Reisepass und sein Gesicht scannen und Angaben zum Beruf machen, und, das kennen wir auch von den USA, angeben, ob man ein verurteilter Verbrecher oder ein Extremist, Terrorist ist.

Das elektronische "Visum" kostet derzeit 10 Pfund, gilt aber für 2 Jahre und man darf sogar bis zu 6 Monate nach UK reisen.

Ab Q4 2026 benötigen übrigens auch UK-Bürger eine ähnliche "Genehmigung", wenn sie in die EU einreisen möchten. In der EU heißt es "Travel Entry Authorisation for Visa-Exempt Nationals" (ETIAS).

Technisch ist es kein Visum, sondern eine elektronische Reisegenehmigung. In der Praxis ist es aber so etwas Ähnliches. Man braucht aber nicht auf die Botschaft gehen, um es zu beantragen, sondern es kann rein online beantragt werden.

Frage mich gerade, wer das zuerst eingeführt hat, UK oder die EU?

Jedenfalls macht es das Reisen zwischen der EU und UK etwas komplizierter. Das Gute ist aber, dass die ETA 2 Jahre gültig ist und elektronisch an eine Ausweis-NUmmer gekoppelt ist. Man braucht keinen Papierkram mitschleppen.

Was sagt ihr dazu? Wer denkt ihr, hat das zuerst eingeführt? Sind "elektronische Reise-Autorisierungen" das neue Visum?

Anyway, it makes traveling between the EU and UK a bit more complicated. The good thing is that the ETA is valid for 2 years and is electronically linked to your ID card number. You don't need to carry any paperwork with you.

Hab ich von gehört, für die allermeisten eine Formalie. Man will kontrollieren und im Zweifel ablehnen können. In der EU haben wir das ja nicht. Verständlich aber auch wieder etwas mehr Reisebürokratie.

Kümmert mich eher nicht. UK ist eine verregnete Insel voller Irrer, ich würde dort niemals hinreisen.

Das möchte ich nicht so stehen lassen. London fand ich auch sehr hektisch und ungemütlich. Dennoch begegneten mir die meisten Menschen dort sehr freundlich.

Südengland, Schottland und Irland stehen auch noch auf meiner TO-Do-Liste.

Das englische !BEER ist allerdings keine Rede wert.

Stimmt die Schotten sind eigentlich ziemlich ok. Aber wenn dort Leute von 6 Polizisten verhaftet werden, weil sie sich in einer WhatsApp Gruppe über die Schule ihrer Tochter beschweren ist das in meinen Augen irre.

Das möchte jetzt ich nicht so stehen lassen. Es gibt da durchaus etliche sehr leckere, Stout, Porter, red ale, brown ale, IPA und ähnliche mehr. Vor allem craft beers und da vor allem Starkbiere sind öfters sehr gut nach meinem Geschmack.

Ja, Okay da gebe ich dir zum Teil recht. Die von Brewdogs machen echt leckere Biere und das Kilkenny ist ein richtig geiles Red ale.
Allerdings sind gute Biere in England meiner Meinung nach eher die Ausnahme statt der Regel.

Unsere Tochter reist in den Sommerferien nach England ins Ferienlager. Dafür müssen wir das auch noch beantragen.

Beruf = Schüler

Und das mit der Pubertät könnte man auch fast als Terrorist bezeichnen.

I think the electronic travel authorizations might be an additional security method but also would be additional burden because of its cost

The new travel rules might just piss somebody off I tell you lol. It’s easy to apply but it’s another step to travel. Maybe other countries will do this too in the future

Schnäppchen, mit serbischen Staatsbürgerschaft kostet es paar Hundert Euro nach England zu reisen, nur für das Visum. Kein April Scherz :(
