[Anime A-Side] Some of My Favorite Tracks from Horizon in the Middle of NowheređŸŽ”

Welcome, y’all. Today, I’m sampling some of the Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere tracks for you. Part of why this Anime is one of my favorites is exclusively because of this soundtrack. Let’s jam.

Tooshi Douka - Dance Version Extended

By dancing mostly nakedly while chanting this song, the one blessed by the Goddess of Entertainment with this gift can survive a killing blow from a “god destroying” weapon. Let that sink in. Gave me Murder on the Dancefloor vibes when I first heard it.

Musashi

Source

This song was sadly hard to find on Youtube, so soundcloud it goes. Whoever made this the introduction to the setting and cast of characters I hope received a raise. The song screamed “Come take my hand on a journey in the wonders of this world” while being the backing track to a combat training exercise in which the entirety of Class 3 Plum (Tori’s class and most of the main cast) were flying across the rooftops of the aerial Far East nation and city ship of Musashi (which there’s about 5 different separate locations called by the way).

At Your Pace

I won’t spoil the context for this song (due to it being difficult to explain properly and one of two moments that made me cry manly tears). It was of a simpler composition compared to most of the other tracks but simpler doesn’t mean less powerful. The name screamed compassion, love and care when I first saw it. I was not ok after it ended. This is my favorite track in Horizon. 😭

Kocchi wo Muke yo Extended

Final Fantasy eat your goddamn heart out. Most fights were played off with a bit of tongue and cheek disregard to what they meant in the story. Then, this song played and destroyed any preconceptions I had that this would remain the norm. When Horizon got serious with its setting and content, people died and real stakes were on the line. This had yes and was my second favorite track.

Hiding Determination Extended

This was the other song to make me teary eyed. At Your Pace and this one both appeared in the same 20 minute scene as mirrors of each other. Again, I won’t spoil the context but this one screamed awkward, raw and anxious with its name. The music instead was “get on with it you fool” (while donning a white top hat and staring blankly into your soul). I’m ok now but might not be in an hour.

Ore wa Koko dato

I’ll end this sampling with a track that you will hear the most if you were to watch this as I hope you will. Around 50% of the runtime of both seasons was dialog based where characters discussed their relationships, the politics and religion of the setting, and their homework. This track frequently backed those. I’m still debating on whether or not this song was the best or worst part of those scenes. I was consistently engaged by the writing. The music never had to try.

My Closing Thoughts

What were your thoughts on these? Were there other types you’d have wanted to hear? Leave your replies below, vote on this content, and reblog if you enjoyed it. Thank you for your time and have a wonderful night.

Listened to some, not seeing a title I'm familiar of. The beats are likely something I would get into if I watched the shows, seems like the tunes I'd play on a background.

Yeah, the vast majority of the composer's Anime work has been in series that I've enjoyed that most people haven't seen. There's quite a bit of ecchi, though. I still can't believe Masamune Kun's Revenge, Mirai Nikki and Food Wars were the same guy: https://myanimelist.net/people/13115/Tatsuya_Katou
