MY REACTION AFTER WATCHING MASK GIRL (2023).

I'm back again with a new series to review here in this community. Last August 2, I wrote a review and shared my thoughts about the Korean drama series that I have watched in the past few months and this time, I discovered a new interesting Korean series that I will share with you. Actually, I feel so very excited to talk about this with you because it's my first time! It's really the first time I've felt this way after watching a Korean drama or series.

You know, I really love watching Korean dramas, movies, series, and any genre or theme, though sometimes the plot of the story or the ending are not my type. I admit that I still enjoyed watching them. However, this time... It's different.

I discovered this Korean series on the Loklok app. where I am watching some series, and they are all free. When I first saw the poster for this series, I thought it wasn't my type. But since I don't have a choice because the Korean dramas for which I am waiting for the next episodes have not aired yet, I decided to try watching this series first. I told myself, "Okay, let's try watching this one. If it doesn't pass my standards of series, then I will find a new one.

When I started episode 1, I saw that this Korean series had a total of seven episodes already. Which is good because if I liked watching this, then I don't need to wait for more episodes and when I searched it on Google to see how many episodes this Korean series has, it only has 7 episodes.

The moment that I saw the poster of this series, my thought or guess was that this is all about a girl who is pretending or hiding from people because of her status, which is why she is wearing a mask.

I didn't see the three words that were written in the poster, which is why I was clueless or had no idea what was going to happen when I started to watch it.

Now let's talk about the animated welcoming scenes. If there is one thing that I am looking for in the first episode, it is their animation. because it contains art.

I really admire those animators because they are very creative, talented, and good at imagining how they will create their own animation for the projects that are given to them, like movies, dramas, or any series, and I guess they were paid a huge amount for it.

The animation art for the mask girl is very impressive! It's just a simple drawing of a girl with lines and coloring, yet it gives me goosebumps. It's giving me retro vibes, which is why I think this series will contain fun scenes or entertainment.

Now, let's start to talk about my first impression of the first episode. But before that, let me warn you first that before you continue reading this blog about "Mask Girl", please watch it first if you haven't watched it yet and don't like to get spoilers.

Okay, the first episode made my blood boil. What a surprising scene, right? A very triggering scene in the first episode? My gosh! I don't even see her as ugly. She's pretty with this kind of look, and I really don't get why many people in this world always judge and bully others because of their looks. What made me more angry was her mother. A mother bullied her own child? She didn't even think that her daughter came out of her own womb.

I really hate parents who have no support for their children's dreams. Because I also experienced it. Instead of motivating, they apply pressure until the child gives up on their own dreams.

And because of those judgmental people in society, she didn't have a choice but to wear a mask and continue pursuing her dream of dancing and singing in front of many people by wearing a mask and doing live streams, and I admire her for that. I mean, she really did something so that she could still continue to do what she loves to do.

And after 3 episodes, I didn't realize that I had passed on 3 episodes and continued watching it. It was because of that that I became more curious about what would happen next. If someone knew her behind her mask, or someone caught her behind her mask, like how I watched the same series as this one.

And I was right! There is one person who can catch her. But before I tell you my impression of him, there is this scene that made me relate and laugh:

I personally also don't like it when someone tells me gossip, but in the end, they will not continue telling it anymore. I really don't like it when someone leaves me in the air and has a curiousity.

But then, in this part of her scene, It made me feel creepy. I mean, I didn't expect that she would feel jealous, and because of her jealousy, she will become a villain in someone's life.

Then that is the start of the moment. I feel the next scenes are creepy, and it didn't manage my expectations in this series. Because, like I really said, I don't have any idea about this series. I didn't watch any spoilers on TikTok or any social media that promoted this to everyone.

When I saw this man in the previous episode, my first impression of him was that he was a kind and shy type of person because, when he talked, he was not good at looking into someone's eyes.

What I really like about this series is that they are showing each character's past life experiences before they became who they are in the present. And this man also experienced the same thing that the mask girl experienced in other people. That's why he was lonely, and he doesn't have any other people beside him aside from his human doll (you know what the purpose of a human doll is, right?)

Every episode that he is there is very creepy for me. Like he became a stalker, obsessed, lunatic, pervert, and everything else that you can describe in a man who became addicted to a woman.

But the scene that made me change my emotions about him was that he also experienced pressure from his parents and a lack of confidence in telling the truth, especially to his mom.

Then the next episodes made me feel shocked, which is why I didn't sleep well last night. This is the first time that it has made me feel this way after watching a series.

I thought that this series contained fun and entertainment. The welcoming vibes are sad and contain back stories of the protagonist's life. But what did I even watch after?

I'm really surprised by what happened. And because of these scenes, I couldn't sleep well. There's more in the next episodes, right? So I stopped myself from continuing to watch and calmed myself first because of the disturbing scene that happened.

If there's something that I admire in this part of the series that I am watching, it's the mother's love for her son. She is willing to sacrifice everything and learn new things that could help her save and find her son, despite the fact that she's old now.

It makes me feel sad when I see her struggle and cry every time she misses her son. But if only she knew what happened and what his son did, would she change her view of him?

Another reason why I didn't sleep after watching this series is that Mask Girl's daughter was victimized by bullying, and she became the one who suffered from her mother's crime, which is why she didn't enjoy her childhood.

I couldn't sleep because this scared me a lot; that's also what I'm scared of. I sometimes think that I don't like to have children because I know that all my sins right now, while I am still young, will be passed on to my children as karma for me, and I don't want that to happen to my children in the future. I don't want my innocent child to suffer because of the wrong things that I did. They don't deserve it.

If only they told the reason why his son was murdered, right? I think the grandmother won't commit a crime like this. But no, the moment that she did this to Mask Girl's daughter, it made my breath stop because of the scenes.

The grandmother is still soft toward the child, though. It just made me feel sad because she doesn't have a choice but to do bad things because of what happened to his son. I am angry at Mask Girl too because she didn't tell her, even until the end. Then they won't hurt each other, and the child will enjoy good things.

Another reason why I didn't sleep well after I finished all the episodes is because of this moment. I feel sad, and I didn't expect that this would come to the scene.

It's just that Mask Girl's dream is so simple when she's still a kid, yet she didn't even achieve it until the end. Why did she suffer so much? She didn't deserve all of what happened to her.

CONCLUSION:

This series made me feel different emotions. From sadness, anger, excitement, curiosity, being scared, and every other emotion that you can feel when you watch this series, it's a roller coaster of emotions. What I love the most about this series is that after watching a lot of Korean dramas, movies, or series that have disturbing scenes, this is the first time in my life that I feel scared, and I feel trauma after watching it. Because it wasn't what I expected! Like I said above, I thought that this series contained entertainment and fun for the viewers, but it doesn't. It made me feel that I will never watch a Korean series again without checking what the genre is first.

As of now, while writing this blog, I still remember the scenes that happened. Seriously? I hope I can erase it all from my mind.
