Human beings, throughout history, have committed reprehensible acts and are stripped within moral justice in many ways; this makes you question whether the people who perpetrate such actions against others are really human. The k-drama I will be talking about is called "The Monster of Old Seoul", a series that makes you reflect many things about human nature and whether it is really the one who looks like a monster or the one who acts like a monster that is more of a monster.

A production that mixes fictional stories with historical dyes, released for the year 2023 under the direction of Jung Dong-yoon, of genre Suspense, Period Drama and Horror; starring Park Seo-joon and Han So-hee.
Synopsis…
A story that takes us back to 1945, where what is now known as the capital of South Korea, Seoul, bore the name Gyeongseong. A period in which the Japanese domination reigned in these territories, making human experiments and committing brutal acts against the locals.
It is from here that the whole plot unfolds, and how Jang Tae-sang, a businessman who has no sense of justice, and Yoon Chae-ok, a detective who, together with her father, is in charge of searching for missing persons, become involved in a series of conflicts, framed in the survival of a terrible human creation, a creature born from the greed of man, who seeks to be superior to God and have dominion over everything he touches.
Will our protagonists manage to survive this creature? What secrets will be hidden in the face of the monster's identity?
Personal opinion…
It is no secret that the Japanese Imperial Army committed cruel acts during the Second World War, crimes hidden under the premise of the good of science and of humanity as a whole. Among these experiments was the practice of vivisection on men, women and children of different ages.
To briefly explain vivisection, it is basically dissection without anesthesia, while the subject is alive.
So this drama is a perfect mix between fiction and real facts, bringing us those dark events in fantastical and well done scenographies, which somehow manage to catch you. It may seem a bit slow at the beginning, but give it a chance, it becomes more and more intriguing.
It is a perfect mix between suspense, horror, science fiction and romance, where we get to see a very well achieved balance for each genre. It is not for a general public, because the title may not be what they expect, however, in my opinion, it has a double meaning, maybe in this story we have a monster itself, but when it comes down to it, who is more of a monster: that mutated being or those men who, for their ambitions and under the pretext of the advancement of science, tortured and experimented with innocent beings?
They definitely show us little truths that humanity has tried to overlook, transcending into the true deep meaning of what it is to be human, leaving you with nerves in every scene and, enveloping you in enigmas, even in the end of the series.
Positive points…
The chemistry between the protagonists and the interpretation between the characters add a touch to this story with dark and really applaudable tones. In addition to the good production in which they develop with attractive scenographic and photographic designs and, in particular, the monster is well presented.
Negative points…
At the beginning it is a little slow and with low action.

El k-drama del que les estaré hablando se llama “El monstruo de la vieja Seúl”, una serie que te hace reflexionar muchas cosas sobre la naturaleza humana y si la verdad es más monstruo el que tiene el aspecto o el actúa como tal.

Sinopsis…
Una historia que nos traslada al año 1945, donde lo que actualmente se conoce la Capital de Surcorea, Seúl, portada el nombre Gyeongseong. Un periodo en el que, el dominio Japonés, imperaba en dichos territorios, haciendo experimentos humanos y cometiendo actos brutales contra los lugareños.
Es a partir de aquí, el punto en el que se desenvuelve toda la trama y, el cómo Jang Tae-sang, un empresario que no tiene un sentido de la justicia y Yoon Chae-ok, una detective que, en conjunto a su padre, se encargan de buscar a personas desaparecidas, se ven involucrados en una serie de conflictos, enmarcados en la sobrevivencia ante una terrible creación humana, una criatura nacida de la avaricia del hombre, quienes buscan ser superior a Dios y tener dominio de todo lo que toca.
¿Nuestros protagonistas lograran sobrevivir a esa criatura? ¿Qué secretos se esconderán ante la identidad del monstruo?
Opinión personal…
Para nadie es un secreto que, el Ejercito Imperial Japonés cometió actos crueles durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, crímenes escondidos bajo la premisa de por el bien de la ciencia y de la humanidad entera. Entre esos experimentos, está la practica de la vivisección en hombre, mujeres y niños, de diferentes edades.
Para explicar brevemente la vivisección, es básicamente la disección sin anestesia, mientras el sujeto esta vivo.
Por lo que este drama es una mezcla perfecta entre la ficción y hechos reales, trayéndonos esos sucesos oscuros en escenografías fantasiosas y bien logradas, que logran de algún modo, atraparte. Eso si, al inicio puede parecer un tanto lenta y, no obstante, denle una oportunidad, se vuelve cada vez más intrigante.
Es una mezcla perfecta entre el suspenso, con el terror, la ciencia ficción y el romance, donde llegamos a ver un balance muy bien logrado por cada género. No es para un publico general, pues por el titulo puede que no sean lo que esperan, sin embargo, al mi parecer, es de doble sentido, puede que en este relato tengamos un monstruo propiamente dicho, pero, a la hora de la verdad ¿Quién es más un monstruo? ¿Ese ser mutado o esos hombres que, por sus ambiciones y por el pretexto del avance de la ciencia, torturaron y experimentaron con seres inocentes?
Definitivamente, nos muestran pequeñas verdades que la humanidad ha intentado pasar desapercibida, trascendiendo en el verdadero significado profundo de lo que es ser humano, dejándote con nervios en cada escena y, envolviéndote en enigmas, incluso en el final de la serie.
Puntos positivos…
La química entre los protagonistas y la interpretación entre los personajes le agregan un toque a esa historia con tonos oscuros y realmente aplaudibles. Aunado a la buena producción en el que se desenvuelven con diseños escenográficos y fotográficos atractivos y, en lo particular, el monstruo está bien planteado.
Puntos negativos…
Al inicio es un poco lenta y con baja acción.

Hay series que son muy buenas y otras que son más de gustos hacia los k-drama que por la temática y escenario que maneja. Creo que esta tiene un poco de las dos. Espero la veas, eso si la primera parte es lenta pero luego va tomando su ritmo. Saludos 🤗

This was a little slow drama and I didn't like how it felt flat in the middle of it. It was one of the reason why I didn't really finish the whole series. I hope I could but then, it was just too difficult to watch.
Definitivamente al inicio es lento pero luego hay acción. No es k-drama para un público general, por las expectativas que genera el titulo, aunque ya en la segunda parte si hay mayor desenvolvimiento en la trama.
It is definitely slow at the beginning but then there is action. It is not k-drama for a general audience, because of the expectations generated by the title, although in the second part there is more development in the plot.
I wished they could really go more and the ending is quite an open-ending one. But i like han soo hee there
