I declare myself a fan of the actress Naomi Watts, I like the selection of films that she agrees to make, if she is there I dare to see it since I am confident that it will not be bad, and so far with this criterion it has gone well for me, because among the that I have seen, such as King Kong and the Impossible, remain forever in my memory, although they are not one of the best where she demonstrates her histrionic abilities, but they are one of the ones that I liked the most.

Of course I must add to the previous two, now to the film "Funny Games" where I really liked his performance and that of Tim Roth who we can remember from the series "Lies to me", which perhaps many did not see, but I do.

When I saw the Trailer and the poster of Funny Games, with these two boys of apparently high social status, dressed in white and with bloody gloves, for me it was impossible not to totally associate them with "A Clockwork Orange", both films with gratuitous violence and even Ultraviolence, and with all these elements in favor I thought I could not fail this production.

Funny Games has an original version in 1997, an Austrian film by director Michael Haneke, who made the American version in 2007 and what caught the most attention is that not only is it a Remake as such, but it is also the same script and the same paintings, this detail seems very interesting to me. I really didn't know either version and it is now in 2024 that I received Funny Games from 2007 with Naomi Watss and Tim Roth, and another attraction is that the musician and actor Michael Pitt also stars.

Already watching Funny Games from 2004, which is the film for which this Publication is, and without having any reference to its original version, since I consumed it, I would say innocently, since I was not expecting the resource that Michael Haneke used, of breaking the fourth wall with one of the characters who are the "psychopaths" and I was really surprised each time he did it, I said to myself: That's it, did he just address me?

With this resource I feel that the director makes the viewer feel the tension and fear as if he were inside the situation. Even leaving us the option of not seeing more because what is coming is ugly, and yet our decision is to keep watching! Then, I realized that we expect to see violence, they are doing it in the movie, but we want to see it, I confess that it made me feel somewhat guilty.

This feeling of guilt for having to recognize the "morbidity" we have for knowing and seeing something violent and unpleasant is something intentional on the part of the director, but it is also a reality. Just as it is true that sex sells in many areas, such as advertising and cinema itself, even if it is not explicit, it is also true that violence does, and by breaking the fourth wall I identified myself as part of the problem and also with the double standards that we often have.

Maybe not everyone feels this way, but I suffer from something called "Overthinking Everything" and I was shocked to discover that we have or rather I have a double standard for certain topics. That is to say, we have the power not to see this, however we decided to see it, and we waited for it so that we could later say that the movie was great.

"Funny Games" is about a very normal family, dad, mom and son, who are going to spend their vacation at their lake house, and these two young people who look very refined and very polite, after being at the house of one of The family's friends approach the protagonist's family's house, making him suffer just because and for no reason from a night of torture and violence.

There are many pearls related to the narration and the director's style in the film, the development and the ending are incredible. We never identify with the bad guys, they are absurdly hateful and the scenes are very tense. They really reminded me of "A Clockwork Orange."

Well, here I am now consuming Austrian cinema, another one that I can write down, and although this version is the one made for the American market, it is exactly the same as the original. I think the differences are in the color palette, and that the protagonists are actors that we know and love, as is the case of Naomi Watss.

But as for these differences, I don't know if they really are because the one from 2007 is more current and looks better than the one from 1997. I haven't seen the original version, only its trailer, but everything looks the same, the script, the plans, everything. I don't think I'd be encouraged to watch the original, maybe that version aged poorly and the director wanted to make it better or if he certainly played with visual elements to make it more commercial.

I have always said that the Horror genre is my favorite, but always the one that is dedicated to exorcisms, unreal beings, extraterrestrials, invasions, horror stories, etc. Now, the true horror film is this one, the one that presents very feasible and real scenarios, the one in which evil is not justified, the one where we do not sympathize with the bad guy in any aspect, the one that could happen to us around the corner.

Siempre he dicho que el género de Terror es mi preferido, pero siempre el que se dedica a exorcismos, seres irreales, de extraterrestres, invasiones, historias de terror, etc. Ahora, el verdadero cine de terror es este, el que presenta escenarios muy factibles y reales, el que no se justifica la maldad, este donde no simpatizamos con el malo en ningún aspecto, el que nos podría tocar a la vuelta de la esquina.

I highly recommend Funny Games from 2007, and I want you to experience and understand the intention of Director Michael Haneke, with all his style of narration, the pearls he leaves like breaking the fourth wall, the development and outcome of Funny Games, and also the excellent performance of these already well-known and beloved actors.
