I think, like you, that Jack Black should surprise us with more complex and competitive roles at the acting level. But, until that happens, I think we will always continue to choose to see him in these characters that are so much himself, that manage to entertain us.
I haven't seen this movie, but I must see it, thanks to this post I will keep it in mind.
