"Ada Omo Daddy" A must watch or not?
I've known myself to be the type that loves going to the cinema to watch a movie whenever a new movie airs; this particular movie was released in December 2023 in cinemas. Unlike me, I wasn't moved to watching it; all I wanted was to wait till the day it would be released on Netflix so I could watch it and have peace of mind, but what I didn't know was the fact that it would take this long to be aired on Netflix.
I saw it on Netflix just a few days ago, and I was like, "Wow," That was the only word I could utter at the moment because why wait this long?, Now I'm able to measure my patience level from this experience, and I'm the most patient human who liveth "don't argue".
The Plot
"Ada Omo Daddy" tells the story of a young woman named Pero, a well-mannered, respectful, and industrious lady from an affluent family. Pero is the ideal daughter in the family who is being used as an example to the other siblings. She worked very hard to the point that she got elevated to the position of managing director in her father's company.
Before that beautiful day ended, she was proposed to by her fiance, and the wedding bells started ringing in the home; however, everything started falling apart when Pero started receiving calls from a stranger who claimed to be her biological father.
She went to her mother to ask questions about her background, but the mum couldn't give her an answer. All she did was lie about the whole thing. Pero believed her mother at first, but when she started receiving pictures from this same person, she realized something was up. She went back to her mother again to ask questions but this time with some threatening messages.
When her mother saw the pictures she couldn't lie any longer but tell the truth. Pero's mother shared the story of how she met Pero's biological father and how he told her to terminate the pregnancy but she didn't. How he later married her and brought other women home even after the marriage. She faced a lot from that marriage and was thrown out when Pero got sick in the middle of the night. The movie unveiled a lot of things, different stories, and actions.
My Review
I know currently, every Nollywood movie wants to portray a certain level of surface glitz, which may seduce viewers into watching any movie, but beneath the glamorous exterior lies something else entirely.
One thing, I'm glad I didn't go to the cinema to watch this movie because if I had, my money would have been staring at me with some bombastic side eye like "you!" Yeah, I understand.
The movie embodied the classical and elegant lifestyle the rich people live in Nigeria. The cast did an amazing job, especially "Sola Sobowale." She never disappoints as expected. She towers scenes with her trademark raw intensity that we've known about her.
For the character Pero, after hearing all the things her biological father did to her mother, she still went ahead in seeing her father secretly and started loving him and spending quality time with him. "Blood is thicker than water, I know that, right". I know forgiveness is important when it comes to humanity, and we are always taught to forgive our neighbors and parents, but then when the hurt is extreme. I think it's kind of hard to forgive. Sometimes forgiveness takes time, it takes effort, it takes patience but then pero didn't think of all that.
Maybe people forgive differently, that's one thing I learned from this movie.
In all the movie was amazing to an extent, the funny scenes that I can't forget. I'm gonna rate this movie a 5/10. You can check it out if you want to.
