El Parqueo: Cine frente al mar y bajo las estrellas
(This post was also written in English) Trae una silla y un amigo, con este slogan y con carteles que perecen creados por niños, nos recibe el Parqueo.
Un proyecto peculiar que está ganado cada día más seguidores, con su modelo clásico de proyectar películas al aire libre, al estilo de los autocines americanos o los antiguos cines rodantes.

A peculiar project that is gaining more followers every day, with its classic model of screening movies outdoors, reminiscent of American drive-ins or old traveling cinemas. Hoy te cuento de mi experiencia disfrutando de este proyecto y te invito para qué tu también lo hagas.
El Parqueo: Un poco de su historia.
El proyecto, nace de la idea de unos jóvenes de compartir unas películas entre amigos y con los muchachos del barrio, todo a raíz de los cambios producidos por la pandemia de COVID.
La idea principal, era proyectar en una pantalla blanca, pero una vecina sugirió que lo hicieran en el lateral de su edificio y pos supuesto, cambiaron la idea, así nacía el Parqueo.
Mucho de los niños y jóvenes que hoy van, nunca antes habían visto estos dibujos animados a esa escala y eso es parte de la magia de este proyecto.
El grupo de 11 amigos, tuvo que enfrentar múltiples desafíos, desde no tener proyector propio, hasta tener que, pedir prestada la corriente a los vecinos para conectar todos los equipos ( *ni la bocina es de ellos*).
También han ocurrido momentos cómicos, como cuando tuvieron que colarse por la ventana del cuarto de una de las muchachas del proyecto, porque ella había salido y no tenían como proyectar.
Todo estos desafíos, los han ido sorteando. Muestra de lo anterior, es que hace unos días, el proyecto cumplió un año emitiendo películas animadas (*no con el ritmo que le gustaría a sus creadores pero si con el sentimiento de haberse ganando a media juventud habanera*)
La idea original era proyectar para los muchachos del barrio, nunca sus creadores e iban a imaginar lo que han logrado un año después.
Las redes sociales, la situación actual del país y la nostalgia por rememorar algunos clásicos de la infancia, han hecho que el proyecto vaya creciendo. Película tras película, el lugar que acoge al proyecto se ha quedado bien chiquito, una verdadera locura.
Hoy en día, no solo han proyectado en su barrio, sino que han sido invitados a otros barrios de la ciudad, dándose a conocer y despertando el bichito cinéfilo de aquellos que no los conocían.
**El Parqueo**, es una realidad y cuenta con un gran apoyo, aunque en todo este tiempo, no hayan generado un solo dólar de ganancia.
El objetivo del equipo, nunca fue generar ganancias, solo divertirse. Aún así, los vecinos han visto las necesidades de los asistentes y han empezado a cubrirlas.
En la última edición, una vecina empezó a vender rositas y las vendió en menos de una hora (*faltaba un mundo para empezar la película aún*). Las cafeterías de los zona, han empezado a vender ofertas más asequibles y variada para todas las edades que van. No dudo que en un futuro cercano, se empiecen a comercializar más productos (ojalá al barrio no se le vaya de las manos)
La comunidad ha empezado a crecer y a cambiar gracias al proyecto. A pesar de la situación del país, ojalá **el Parqueo** nos dure mucho tiempo y como dicen sus creadores ... *ojalá muchas más gentes copiaran este modelo y lo replicaran en cada barrio*.
En la Habana, existen más de 12 salas de cine (*aún operativas*) en los principales municipios, pero el organismo encargado de administrarlo y proyectar los filmes; no hace buen trabajo y hoy nadie va al cine, a nada.
Los cines se han convertido en edificios que sobreviven al paso del tiempo. Ya nadie habla de ellos, no forman parte de la cultura cubana pero, el Parqueo, está demostrando que si hay necesidad de cines y de espacios cinematográficos.
¿Cuántos espacios no hay vacíos o abandonados en la ciudad que pudieran ser reconvertidos en proyectos como este? ¿ Es tan díficil apoyar a proyectos de jóvenes como estos? Muchas son las interrogantes que nos sacarían de la esencia de este artículo así que vamos con mi experiencia ...
Mi experiencia
Conocí de este proyecto, prácticamente desde su creación. Una amiga, me envío una de sus peculiares carteles y me llamó muchísimo la atención.
Me dio curiosidad, la peculiar forma de promocionarlo y como se manejaba el proyecto y cuando me enteré que eran jóvenes de mi misma edad, quede aún más fascinado con el proyecto.
Por desgracia, mis horarios no coincidían con las emisiones, pero si o si, debía ir en algún momento.
Meses después, en el marco del *Festival de la Bicicleta*, asistí a una de sus emisiones.
Aquella vez, era una doble proyección. Con poco conocimiento y con ganas de experimentar la experiencia, parte de mi equipo y yo, llevamos unas mantas y nos tiramos en el piso. (*No era lo más cómodo, pero para ser la primera vez, se sintió increíble*)
**El Parqueo**, está ubicado frente al mar, en la conocida Puntilla, justo al lado del centro comercial y el famoso edificio Rio Mar.
Lo que a todos nos gusta de este proyecto, es la sencillez que desprende y lo diferente que hace la experiencia para el que va a disfrutar de una película.
La tarde va cayendo en el barrio de Miramar, empieza a llegar la gente. Los autos que normalmente ocupan su lugar en el parqueo, son desplazados hacia las calles de los alrededores, para dejarle lugar a los visitantes.
Se va llenando el pequeño parqueo (que a primera vista no parece tan pequeño), las piedras se empiezan a mover como por arte magia. De pronto las piedras se convierte en nbanos improvisados o rústicas mesitas.
Empiezan a llegar los bicicleteros (que ya por cultura, el resto les reserva su "*parqueo*" improvisado)
Luego, llegan los que como nosotros tenemos carros y venimos cargados con sillas y hasta con una cafetería.
Los vecinos se posicionan, en las primeras líneas, con sus muebles para disfrutar con comodidad de la proyección.
La noche cae, ya no hay espacio para una persona más, pero no importa, sigue llegando gente, todo el mundo quiere vivir la experiencia.
Tal vez no conozcas a nadie, pero todo el mundo se comparte la manta, la bebida o la rosita. Aunque no conozcas a nadie, aquí todos somos amigos. (el sentimiento de seguridad que la gente siente durante esa hora, no lo vas a sentir en ningún otro lugar de la ciudad)
Sobre las *8:30 PM*, empieza la película, es momento de sacar el celular, todos quieren llevarse el momento que sale el cartel con el nombre de la película.
La foto como la siguiente, son las que más se repiten en las redes sociales en la noche del sábado.
Las voces se calman, solo queda el sonido de la bocina y el mar rompiendo contra la costa. De vez en cuando, las risas se suman a estos sonidos y alguna que otra vez, el público se sabe los diálogos al dedillo.
Esa es la atmósfera de **el Parqueo**.
En el caso de nosotros, somos tan fanáticos, que ya sabemos que las películas se proyectan cada 15 días y nos preparamos para ello con antelación.
Días antes, nos ponemos de acuerdo para ver que va a llevar cada cual: uno compra las rositas, otro llevar las sillas (*si, ya nos perfeccionamos, las mantas son un poco incómoda*), otro lleva los refrescos y así se arma el picnic y a disfrutar se ha dicho.
Es un plan bastante sano y se vuelve adictivo.
Nosotros, nos pasamos la semana esperando que primero, publiquen la encuesta y luego, que publique el cartel de la proyección. (es un tema de conversación habitual en nuestro grupo de amigos)
Reunión con los amigos, recordando los tiempos cuando ninguno tenía más preocupación que hacer la tarea. Todo bajo las estrellas, con unos ricos snacks, riendo y disfrutando de la noche, la sencillez en su máxima expresión.
**El Parqueo**, resulta ser un planazo, para las noches de sábado, después depende de ti, si continuar o no la fiesta.
Para los tiempos que vive nuestro país, este proyecto es un ejemplo a seguir.
Nació de la idea de unos amigos de disfrutar de su amistad de una manera diferente, sin ninguna expectativa más.
Hoy logran reunir a más de 500 personas en un lugar, desde niños de apenas un año hasta los más viejos ( hasta mis padres, se han visto alguna de las proyecciones). Es imposible no enamorarse de este proyecto, de su filosofía y del equipo que le da vida.
Es inevitable, no sentirme identificado con ellos; **Estilo Viajero**, nació de una idea similar.
Nosotros queríamos compartir nuestros viajes con el resto de la Universidad y de ahí hemos crecido y expandido. Dos grupos de amigos, con el solo propósito de disfrutar, cada uno haciendo lo que disfruta.
**El Parqueo**, es un ejemplo para todos, de lo que se puede lograr, cuando ponemos por delante los sentimientos, el vivir la vida y disfrutar cada momento, antes de que la ganancia económica.

No te puedo decir otra cosa, todo el que va lo disfruta, así de simple.
La próxima proyección, será el sábado 13 de abril, con la película de Hércules.

El Parqueo in English is something like the Parking Lot
Today I'm going to talk you about my experience enjoying this project and invite you to do the same.
El Parqueo, a bit of its history.
The project stems from the idea of a group of young people wanting to share some movies among friends and with the neighborhood kids, all in response to the changes brought about by the COVID pandemic.
The main idea was to project onto a white screen, but a neighbor suggested they do it on the side of her building, and of course, they changed the idea. Thus, **el Parqueo** was born.
Many of the children and young people who go there now had never seen these cartoons on such a scale before, and that's part of the magic of this project.
The group of 11 friends had to face multiple challenges, from not having their own projector to having to borrow electricity from neighbors to connect all the equipment (*even the speakers aren't theirs*).
They've faced comical moments, like when they had to sneak through the window of one of the girls' rooms because she had gone out and they had no way to project.
Despite all these challenges, they've been overcoming them. Proof of this is that a few days ago, the project celebrated one year of showing animated films (*not at the pace its creators would like, but with the feeling of having won over half of Havana's youth*).
The original idea was to project for the neighborhood kids; never did their creators imagine what they would achieve a year later.
Social media, the current situation in the country, and nostalgia for reliving some childhood classics have contributed to the project's growth. Movie after movie, the place that hosts the project has become too small, a real frenzy.
Today, they have not only screened in their neighborhood but have been invited to other neighborhoods in the city, making themselves known and sparking the cinephile bug in those who didn't know them.
**El Parqueo** is a reality and has great support, although a year later, they haven't generated a single dollar in profit. They know they have won the hearts of everyone who goes there.
The team's goal was never to make a profit, just to have fun. Even so, the neighbors have seen the needs of the attendees and have begun to address them.
In the last edition, a neighbor started selling popcorn and sold out in less than an hour (there was still plenty of time before the movie started).
Cafeterias in the area have started selling more affordable and varied offers for all ages attending. I have no doubt that in the near future, more products will start being commercialized (hopefully, the neighborhood won't lose control).
The community has started to grow and change thanks to the project. Despite the country's situation, I hope the Parking Lot lasts a long time, and as its creators say... I hope many more people copy this model and replicate it in every neighborhood.
In Havana, there are more than 12 movie theaters (still operational) in the main municipalities, but the organization in charge of managing them and screening the films does not do a good job, and today, nobody goes to the movies, for anything.
Cinemas have become buildings that survive the passage of time. Nobody talks about them anymore; they are no longer part of Cuban culture. But the Parking Lot is proving that there is a need for cinemas, for cinematic spaces.
How many empty or abandoned spaces are there in the city that could be converted into projects like this? Is it so difficult to support young projects like these? There are many questions that would take us away from the essence of this article, so let's move on to my experience...
My experience
I became aware of this project practically from its inception. A friend sent me one of their peculiar posters, and it caught my attention.
I was curious about the unique way they promoted it and how the project was managed, and when I found out they were young people my age, I was even more fascinated with the project.
Unfortunately, my schedule didn't match the screenings, but I absolutely had to go at some point.
Months later, during the *Bicycle Festival*, I attended one of their screenings.
That time, it was a double feature. With little knowledge and a desire to experience the event, some of my team and I brought blankets and lay on the ground. It wasn't the most comfortable, but for the first time, it felt amazing.
*El Parqueo* is located by the sea, in the well-known shopping center: *la Puntilla* and the famous Rio Mar building.
What we all like about this project is the simplicity it exudes and how different it makes the experience for those who come to enjoy a movie.
The afternoon falls in the *Miramar* neighborhood, and people start arriving. The cars that normally occupy their parking spaces are moved to the surrounding streets to make room for visitors.
The small parking lot starts filling up (which at first glance doesn't seem so small), and the stones start moving as if by magic. Suddenly, the stones turn into improvised benches or rustic tables.
The cyclists start arriving (as a cultural norm, the rest reserve their improvised "parking" spots for them).
Then come those of us with cars, who come loaded with chairs and even a coffee maker. The neighbors position themselves in the front rows with their furniture to enjoy the screening comfortably.
Night falls, there's no space for one more person, but it doesn't matter; more people keep coming, everyone wants to experience it.
Maybe you don't know anyone, but everyone shares blankets, drinks, or popcorn. Even if you don't know anyone, here, we're all friends. (The sense of security people feel during that hour, you won't feel it anywhere else in the city.)
At around 8:30 PM, the movie starts; it's time to take out the phone; everyone wants to capture the moment the movie title appears on the screen.
Photos like the one below are the most common on social media on Saturday nights.
Voices quiet down, only the sound of the speakers and the sea breaking against the shore remains. Occasionally, laughter joins these sounds, and every now and then, the audience knows the dialogues by heart.
That's the atmosphere of: **el Parqueo.**
In our case, we're such fans that we already know the movies are screened every 15 days, and we prepare for it in advance.
Days before, we agree on what each one will bring. Sometimes it's buying popcorn, other times it's bringing chairs (yes, we've perfected it; blankets are a bit uncomfortable), someone else brings drinks, and that's how the picnic is organized, and it's time to enjoy.
It's such a wholesome plan, and it becomes addictive. We spend the week waiting for them to first publish the survey and then the screening poster. (It's a common topic of conversation in our group of friends.)
Meeting up with friends, reminiscing about the times when none of us had more concern than doing homework. All under the stars, with some tasty snacks, laughing, and enjoying the night, simplicity at its best.
*El Parqueo* turns out to be a great plan for Saturday nights; what happens afterward depends on you, whether to continue the party or not.
For the times our country is going through, this project is an example to follow.
It was born from the idea of friends wanting to enjoy their friendship in a different way, with no further expectations.
Today, they manage to gather more than 500 people in one place, from children as young as one year old to the elderly (even my parents have attended some of the screenings). It's impossible not to fall in love with this project, its philosophy, and the team that brings it to life.
*El Parqueo* is an example for everyone of what can be achieved when we put feelings, living life, and enjoying every moment ahead of economic gain.
We could spend hours talking about the Parking Lot, but I invite you to follow their social media and, of course, to experience it yourself.
Remember to bring a chair and a friend (this is undoubtedly the most important).
It doesn't matter if you go by bus, bike, or your own vehicle; just go, you won't regret it.
I can't tell you anything else; everyone who goes enjoys it, it's as simple as that.

Wow, me he emocionado al leer sobre este proyecto. 😐 No sabía que existía. Me gustaría ir un día. A mí lo que me golpea un poco es el tema de salir de noche, sola, de aquí de donde vivo, y el regreso después. Pero, bueno, algo se hará.

Es un proyecto lindísimo, es una pena que no tenga mayor difusión porque es un espacio que le hace mucha falta a la ciudad.
