CineTV Contest: The boys
Superhero movies and shows have evolved as the years have gone by. We've seen corny, we've seen family friendly, we've seen straight-up weird, and we've also seen more believable and realistic superheroes. There have been lots of creators of superhero movies, but by far the largest benefactors from the genre has been Marvel and DC, each year they release dozens of movies grossing millions and even billions of dollars sometimes. Their rivalries help propel much of their work as they have lots of enjoyers, myself included. But surprisingly, my favourite superhero movie isn't produced by either Marvel or DC, it is produced by Amazon Studios, and it was made as a type of parody to the typical superhero movies we normally see. This is none other than THE BOYS
The Boys isn't your average superhero show, while Marvel and DC show us the perfect superheroes who after getting their powers decide to use them to better the world, it shows us what a more realistic society with superheroes will look like. A corporation using superheroes as a means of acquiring wealth and status, social media approval being ranked higher than being real heroes, selfish superheroes who are only interested in fame and the status that comes with being superheroes, then there are a few who actually want to better the world but their reach isn't enough and they ultimately don't have the impact they desire, then there's also degeneracy. We already see the crazy and absurd things humans do, so now imagine we give those same people powers you can imagine the sick and twisted shit that happens.
All of these are covered extensively in the show and it is one of the reasons it is my best superhero show. While I love the perfect superhero, I know that in the real world, if superheroes were real, it'd be almost impossible for them to be like they are portrayed in the Marvel and DC movies, and more possible for them to be like the ones in the Boys universe.
But then, even though The Boys is my favourite superhero show, I hardly ever recommend it to anyone for a couple of reasons. The major one is the degeneracy in the show. It's a crazy show and there's a lot of mind boggling shit that happens, but as the show progresses (especially the latter season), it just feels like the directors are like "Oh look how people reacted to this crazy shit that happened here, let's try to top that by doing something even more outrageous in the next episode." and they start to lose the plot a little bit.
Oh, and I'm pretty sure not everyone wants to see a more realistic representation of superheroes, after all, some use movies as an escape from reality and don't want an extension of it.
Anyways it's still my favourite superhero show and a 10/10 for me. Now anytime I watch other superhero movies it feels off.

Ha! The gore alone was enough to scare me anyway, but I think people would actually want to se something reefreshing for a change. Heroes that live to please everyone at the detriment of themselves, sometimes, no longer holds appeal for me. Nicely reviewed. Thank you for sharing and good luck!
