Films That Could Have Been Talked About More

So, I was scouring through my not-so-vast bank of watched films for productions that could have been talked about more. Now this prompt is kind of broad and spans across a lot of genres, so I couldn’t decide which to pick yet or what particular genre to cast my hook in, but I figured that I’d just pick productions randomly and turn this into a part type series. So here are a few random picks of movies I feel could have been talked about more. The films that were talked about perhaps too much are on their way.

The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)

Released on December 15th, 2006, this is a biographical drama film directed by Gabriele Muccino and stars Will Smith as Chris Gardener and Jaden Smith as his son. Chris Gardener is a homeless salesman who invests his entire life savings in portable bone-density scanners, which he demonstrates to doctors and pitches as a handy improvement over standard X-rays.

He sells most of them but there is a huge time lag between the sales that causes his bitter, estranged wife to leave their five-year-old son in his care. Chris and his son go through deprivation, starvation, homelessness, you name it. Till he meets a man who offers him the position of intern stockbroker. Competing with 20 other applicants who are also vying for a permanent position, Chris’ life is unsure to take a turn for the better or the worst.

I don’t know. The consistent and persistent heartbreak in this film production wouldn’t make me see it more than a few times. But it was a stellar production that would hit you at your core, which is why it’s making it on the list today.

Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011)

Carl(Steve Carell) is a middle-aged man who is recently heartbroken when his wife asks him for a divorce. Hoping to drown away his sorrows, he goes to the bar and that’s where he meets Jacob(Ryan Gosling) who turns out to be that friend that leads him on a path to rediscovering himself and restoring his manhood. So, night after night, with the insistence of this new found friend, Carl refurbishes his style and picks up girls. What he does not realize, however, is that his friend is more biologically and comically tied to him than he would have thought.

This production made me smile. Of course, for a film created in 2011, watching it now may or may not give you a full dose of cheesiness or corniness in some parts. But I think it’s an amazing production especially because the audience is already aware of the highlight of the film but still look forward to how it will play out. And in my opinion, did not disappoint.

The Devil Wears Prada (2006)

Released on the 30th of June, 2006, The Devil Wears Prada features Andy(Anne Hathaway), a young graduate who has a rather film aspiration to becoming a journalist. And so, she travels to New York and becomes the assistant to one of the city’s biggest magazine editors, the cynical and maybe a little jaded, Miranda Priestly(Meryl Streep). With admirable grit and determination, Andy seeks to find her place and purpose in the journalism industry under the fashion umbrella of the hardcore, sometimes shrew-like Priestly.

I was quite young when this production came out and only watched it a lot later but I was surprised by how not nearly talked about this film was. Either way, it’s my pleasure to bring to you films that you may or may not enjoy but would otherwise interest you in some form or the other. Hope you enjoy these.
